For Sale: 1 Left-handed Strat, $168,000

hendrixguitar.jpgA Stratocaster is not just any old guitar. And this isn’t just any old Strat. A 1968 modified for a left-hander named Jimi Hendrix.

NEW YORK (AP) - Paul McCartney’s lyrics. Jimi Hendrix’s guitar. A John Lennon interview. Memorabilia from some of the most influential musicians of the 20th century hit the auction block Monday.

McCartney’s original handwritten working lyrics for the 1968 Beatles song “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” went for $192,000 at Christie’s sale of rock and pop memorabilia. The pre-sale estimate had been $200,000 to $300,000.

Hendrix’s guitar, a 1968 Fender Stratocaster with a sunburst finish that was modified to accommodate his left-handed use, sold for a staggering $168,000, well above its pre-sale estimate of $80,000 to $120,000.

The guitar has been kept at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland since the museum’s opening in 1996.

  1. did you go to netvibe or pageflake?

  2. I’m not sure, whichever one was on the right side column earlier.
As for the R&R Hall of Fame. It’s good to know they have a treasure like that. They had a really hard time finding memorabilia when they first opened, as Hard Rock Cafe had been grabbing all of the good stuff for years. The R&R Hall of Fame had some strange exhibits to fill space, they had all the junk found in Jerry Garcia’s beard, David Crosby’s original liver, and a Curt Cobain Memorial shooting range.

  3. That is a strange lineup. heh.
The one that was in the sidebar was netvibe. I took it down a little while ago after I was able to get the other one (pageflake) to do about 75% of what I want it to do. It is here.

  4. Nope, it was pageflake, I remember after clicking on the link again.

On another matter, Globular Global Warming, found this really interesting piece on Opinion Journal, another of my first stops each day.

Washington has no shortage of bullies, but even we can’t quite believe an October 27 letter that Senators Jay Rockefeller and Olympia Snowe sent to ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson. Its message: Start toeing the Senators’ line on climate change, or else.

We reprint the full text of the letter here, so readers can see for themselves. But its essential point is that the two Senators believe global warming is a fact, and therefore all debate about the issue must stop and ExxonMobil should “end its dangerous support of the [global warming] ‘deniers.’ ” Not only that, the company “should repudiate its climate change denial campaign and make public its funding history.” And in extra penance for being “one of the world’s largest carbon emitters,” Exxon should spend that money on “global remediation efforts.”

Now, what was that meme we keep hearing about the Dhimmicrats? Oh yeah, they will end corruption in the known universe, forever and ever, to infinity and beyond.

  5. Nuke, perhaps you could put the letter on NP…scream it from the mountaintop, so to speak.

  6. I feel better already

  7. I can do that

  8. I’m glad you feel better!
    How’s the ocular challenge?

  9. Still using the eyedrops. Another appointment in 3 weeks. Last week, he told me I was about 50% recovered.

  10. He said, but what do you think?
Still seeing improvement, or have you plateaued?

  11. Reading that letter by those two Senators has really pi##ed me off.
I need to circulate that. I think my Senators and Congressman might need to be made aware of the letter, if they aren’t already, and just how aggregious I think they are for writing such an intimidating and threatening pseudo-government policy rant.

  12. I understand. AAMOF, I’m blogging about it now. Will post shortly, back in a few.

  13. I just went to Rush’s webpage, and he did a segment on this topic today, and gave an excellent analysis.

  14. Thats not really a left handed Strat is it?

I think Jimi just strung it backwards and played it upside down.

But it is a thing of beauty.

  15. The article calls it “modified”.
    Yeah, it’s a beaut
