Update 2: A 4th suspect was arrested …”Eric DeWayne Boyd, 34, arrested in Knoxville Thursday night, was charged with being an accessory after the fact in a carjacking…

“Investigators believe Channon Christian was held hostage and raped repeatedly for several days before being killed, a federal marshal said today.The news came on the same day that authorities captured three men sought for questioning in her death and that of her boyfriend, Christopher Newsom.

Authorities believe she and Newsom were abducted after a weekend carjacking in North Knoxville that ultimately led to both their deaths, said Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Rich Knighten of the Western District of Kentucky.

“They did some really nasty things to this lady,” Knighten said.

Newsom was shot and his body burned, Knighten said. He said he didn’t know how Christian died.

Federal and local authorities nabbed Letalvis Cobbins and a friend, George Thomas, about 10 a.m. Thursday in Lebanon, Ky. Knoxville investigators had received information that Cobbins had a relative there.

Lemaricus Davidson was arrested about 3:35 p.m. in Knoxville by KPD’s Special Operations Squad, U.S. marshals and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents.

Cobbins, Davidson and Thomas are suspects in both killings, Knighten said.

Davidson, 25, was arrested at an empty house at 1800 Reynolds St. He was crying and offered no resistance.

I read this pre-9/11 Frontpagemag article for the first time about a year ago.

I’ve read it several times since.

I was 18 years old when the Zebra killers were terrorizing residents of San Francisco, and my recollections are vague and incomplete. But you would think that more would have been written over the years in memory of the victims who died at the hands of Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam.

Update 6: Associated Press revisits the story. Even looks like we got quoted, but not directly attributed. The “angry bloggers” moniker does seem appropriate. I am angry. I’m angry that white families have for the last 40 years taught their children that fighting is wrong, and violence solves nothing. At the same time, backing down from confrontations from the aggressive behavior of blacks who are emboldened to commit even more aggressive acts by the passivity of whites. The same whites, who when they react, are accused of racism and ostracized by a political correct mass media.

Christian and Newsom were last seen Jan. 6. Authorities have refused to say where they were carjacked and have suggested the attack was random.

Newsom’s burned body was found the next day along some railroad tracks, and Christian’s body was found two days later a short distance away in a trash can. Both had been sexually assaulted.

Web sites describe gruesome details that are not in the public record.

Lemaricus Davidson, 25; his brother, Letalvis Cobbins, 24; and George Thomas, 24, were indicted on 46 counts, including first-degree murder. Cobbins’ former girlfriend, Vanessa Coleman, 18, was indicted on 40 counts, also including murder. Some have implicated others in statements to police, but it remains unclear what prompted the crimes

Update 7: Randy Hall at CNSnews reports on the upcoming trial, and concluded with some interesting comments by Robert Zelnich:

Robert Zelnick, a professor of journalism at Boston University, told Cybercast News Service Thursday the Knoxville murders, “as gruesome as they were, need a strong peg to reach a national audience.”

“Racism would certainly be one. Celebrity involvement would be another. An epidemic of criminal activity of this sort would be a third,” he said.

“The coincidence of white victims and black perpetrators doesn’t pass muster, though the coincidence of white perpetrators and black victims might because of its relative infrequency,” Zelnick added.

Still, “cases like this do make you resist the nonsense peddled by certain self-anointed black ‘civil rights leaders’ who suggest that the high incidence of black male incarceration is a function of society’s racism,” he said.

That claim is “nonsense,” according to Zelnick. “It is a function of the breakdown of spiritual, cultural, educational and family value systems in the African-American community.”

This classic newsroom double standard pops up again and again. A recent example is the “second rape case in Durham.” In this eerie reversal of the Duke lacrosse story, a girl was allegedly raped in the bathroom of a Duke fraternity house during a party. North Carolina’s News & Observer said the suspect being sought was in “his late teens or early 20s, about 6 foot 1 and wearing a do-rag, a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans.” However, the story failed to mention that the suspect was black, the alleged victim is white, and the fraternity, initially unnamed, is African-American. The classic double standard crime story is the 1999 death of Jesse Dirkhising, a 13-year-old Arkansas boy who was drugged, tied to a bed, raped, tortured, and killed by two homosexual men. The big-time press was exasperated by complaints that, unlike the Matthew Shepard story, the murder of the Dirkhising boy virtually had no coverage outside of Arkansas. [snip]

If Jesse Dirkhising had been a gay youngster tortured and killed by straight men, the story would have gone national in a heartbeat.

Now the press is making the Dirkhising mistake again in the Knoxville case. It may have the same result: the story will spread anyway thanks to the Internet. Before the press start up again about “angry white males,” let’s notice that the blogger assault on the press’s failure in the Knoxville case is being led by Michelle Malkin, who is Asian-American, and LaShawn Barber, who is black.
