Al-Qaeda could be planning to attack this summer’s Euro 2008 football championships in Switzerland and Austria, it was reported today.

“The Euro 2008 tournament is a target cited by the Islamist terrorist network,” a police spokesman reportedly told Swiss newspaper La Liberte.

A flurry of messages have been monitored, by police and security officials in Switzerland, on two Islamist internet forums - sos minbar and As-Sahab - which are favoured by the extremist terrorist group as a means to awaken dormant cells.

One message is reported to say: “Let’s transform these two countries, the safest in Europe, into hell - like the hell in Iraq or Afghanistan.”

Perhaps Obama can sit down and talk to them, and persuade them to change their ways.

Hopefully European authorities will be able to prevent this from happening.

The “renewal” written about over at Brussels Journal couldn’t come too soon.

There are many Europeans who are concerned about the future of our continent and its culture. Many of them work tirelessly in their chosen fields to strengthen European civilisation. But European conservatives do not know one another well. Conservatives respect local traditions and national cultures. But European conservatives likewise recognise that they are part of a common civilisation and it is important for European leaders to meet. Building and strengthening a network of like-minded Europeans is among our key priorities.

The California Supreme Court overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage Thursday in a ruling that would allow same-sex couples in the nation’s biggest state to tie the knot.

Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices ruled 4-3. LINK

The McComb Army National Guard Readiness Center will be renamed this weekend in honor of a fallen soldier. Sgt. Timothy R. Osbey died Feb. 16, 2005, when his vehicle rolled into a canal in Iraq.

The 29-year-old soldier from Magnolia was a member of the 155th Brigade Combat Team.

At his funeral, Osbey was posthumously awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service and a Mississippi Medal of Valor.

The dedication ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Osbey married Willie Marie Dickerson Osbey before leaving for the Middle East. Osbey also left behind a daughter who was 9 years old at the time of his death.

Last night was a reminder of what a tough year this will be for Republicans. The loss of the Congressional seat in Mississippi was tough. We had a great candidate, but the Democrat very effectively ran as a pro life, pro 2nd amendment conservative. I’m convinced that for the GOP to have wins this year we have to focus on specific issues and not party building (for us) or party bashing (against them).

You know, Mike. A few months ago, you spent a great deal of time talking about Vertical Politics: policies and issues which were neither right nor left, but were about lifting everyone up. Is was an effective message. We conservatives truly believe that conservative principles are the very essence of Vertical Politics. The abandonment of conservative principles by the Republican Party is the main reason for the election losses.

High gas prices, the war, and the overall general funk that I tie up in a neat little ball called “Bush Fatigue.” The general public blames the Republicans for all of the ills in the world, and the President won’t defend himself or the Party. And even when he tries, he is so inarticulate that we cringe every time he steps up to the microphone.

Mike, we’ve been waiting to go on offense since the budget battle of ‘96. But, one by one, we’ve watched our leadership get picked off by a sex or money scandal, and all our time has been spent on defense. And then we get junk coming out of the Congress like Foley, Abramoff, Delay, Ney, and Cunningham… and uncontrolled spending, and bigger and more obtrusive government programs … illegal immigration out the wazoo, and the President, as well as our presumptive nominee, on record as supporting a path to citizenship for those who have entered here illegally (just doing jobs Americans won’t do, my foot), even going so far as to tie the hands of the border enforcement agents charged with a near impossible and thankless task. The fact that Compean and Ramos are still in a jail cell irks us to no end.

The fact is, we’re mad, Mike. But not so much at the Democrats. They aren’t doing anything that we don’t expect out of them. They’ve behaved disgustingly, and continue to do so. No, we’re mad at the Republicans for not carrying the fight to the Democrats. We vote for men and women who promise to fight the good fight when they are back home campaigning, but when they get to DC, they seem to be interested only in being liked by the opposition, lining their pockets, or getting their groove on. Our elected representatives have refused to stand up and fight for our principles, and we don’t see any real advantage to returning them to DC.

I’m going to tell you something else, Mike. If John McCain doesn’t get off this global warming kick, he’s going to need a heck of a lot of crossover voters in order to win — because there are a whole bunch of us who will not vote for him if he stabs us in the back. Again.

Ouch!

I was reading about the Republican loss of MS-01 in the CL, trying to figure out how in the cat hair we managed to give that seat away, and for some reason unbeknownst to me, I thought about an old essay written some time back by our pal RT.

I don’t see how anyone can look at the shifting demographics of America and conclude our great grand-children are going to live in a better, more stable country, than we did, and honestly embrace these changes in the fabric of our society as a positive development for our nation.

And ultimately I don’t see how anyone thinks pulling the lever beside a Republican’s name at the voting booth is going to do anything but continue the downhill slide at anything other than maybe a slightly less steep slope. We are on the certain demographic path to voting in a permanent string of socialism promoting regimes, it’s just a matter of when the current socialist’s slight electoral disadvantage has been permanently swung to their favor on a permanent basis. Israel is in the same Democratic paradox we are, at some point the Israeli Muslims, if allowed to continue to vote, are going to reach the electoral threshold needed to permanently alter the nation’s course from that which it’s founders intended….

I need to chill, and be like the vast majority of our fellow Americans and stop caring so much about the long term indicators regarding America’s prosperity at home, and our status in the future global pecking order, and just let inevitability pass while I am oblivious to the decline. So what if we fail to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of every 3rd world megalomaniac that wants them. Who cares if Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal falls into the hands of Islamic radicals the MSM refers to as “civilians”. Why should I give a shit if America ranks somewhere near the bottom of the pack in education by the middle of this century. I’ll be dead by then, man. Let my kids figure out what to do about that, just like our parents left the North Korean problem for us to deal with.

I am going to make it a point to sit down and watch Oprah everyday, just so I can get in sync with the majority of my fellow Americans. I bet she has plenty of good advice on what’s best for us, and I need to start keeping up with Dancing with the Stars too, because everybody at the office is always asking me if I saw the last episode, so it must be great. You know, the people in Spain, Italy, and Turkey have gotten used to being a former superpower, hell I guess I can too. I never really liked be a member of the Anglosphere anyway. Do they sell Che’ T-shirts at Wal-Mart? I am thinking those radical hippies in the 60s were on to something with this “make love not war” stuff. I betcha if we just stopped sending our soldiers into foreign countries the world would not hate us so much. Then maybe all the world’s conflicts would come to an end if all the world leaders would just sit down at the UN and work out our differences in a civilized diplomatic matter. Diplomacy works, our diplomats know more about how the world works than I do, and there’s nothing wrong with compromising with our enemies if that will keep them happy for awhile.

a $170 million earmark for the salmon industry, quietly tucked into the mammoth bill at the last minute by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA). I don’t know much about the salmon industry. Perhaps Pelosi and Thompson can explain why it was necessary to earmark $170 million of the taxpayers’ money with no public scrutiny or debate. The earmark wasn’t in the House-passed Farm Bill or the Senate version; it was simply “air-dropped” into the final bill in secret. source

In an attempt to put to rest the persistent rumor that Barry Soetoro, aka Barak Hussein Obama’s real name isn’t Barak Hussein Muhhamed Obama, the St. Pete Times published this interesting paragraph…

We tried to obtain a copy of Obama’s birth certificate, but his campaign would not release it and the state of Hawaii does not make such records public.

St. Pete Times’ effort to put to rest the rumors about Obama have raised more questions than they have answered….
