Opportunistic Value Judgements

spotfriendsreunitedfd41.jpg

I cached this page, because it contained one of the more interesting tracks that I’ve read in Guardian (UK) for quite some time:

The following correction was printed in the Guardian’s Corrections and clarifications column, Wednesday November 8 2006.
An editing error in the report below introduced a value judgment on the Nicaraguan presidential election with the phrase, “From a social progressive, he [Daniel Ortega] has changed into an ego-driven opportunist …” when the original article made it clear that this was the opinion of disillusioned Sandinistas.

Just from reading the correction, it’s difficult for me to discern whether the value judgment in question was considered to be a slight against the communists, or a slight against ego-driven opportunists.

But, now that we know that Guardian considers value judgments to be non-grata, I will be watching for future articles which use this method of description in covering Israel, for example. And, I would hope that they would be as willing to correct those errors as quickly as they did for Ortega.

Although he is opposed by 60% of the Nicaraguan people, Guardian sees Ortega’s apparent electoral victory with about 38% of the vote, as a “stinging rebuke to George W. Bush,” a characterization which to this writer, appears to be a value judgment.

The Government We Deserve

liberty1ue5.gif

PierreLeGrand takes a look at the election results and says, “We Blinked”

After the Madrid bombings the Spanish people threw out the incumbents and voted in those who promised to “talk” to the terrorists. America laughed at such cowardice thinking how tough she has been in the past. Well…

No Madrid Bombing but we still voted in those who promised talk to terrorists instead of taking action against terrorists. Shall we attempt to blame the politicians who admittedly botched much in the last two years or shall we blame the American people? We got the Government we deserved as a people, we blinked in the face of terror. Excuses that the Main Stream Media misled us do not impress because it is possible to bypass the MS if you care enough to know. You can get the information to make informed decisions about politicians if you have the stomach to face the facts as they stand. But for many those facts are too bleak, and instead of facing them, we as a people have decided to believe that reality only exists if we admit to it.

Now pray that not too many of us die because it is inevitable that those we fight will have a statement. An opening bid in the “negotiations”. Unlike Spain we will be hit again and again as our enemies attempt to gain favorable responses from a party filled to the brim with people who believe talk is a substitute for action.
