Take the Pledge

Yesterday General Petraeus testified that the Biden/Warner resolutions and those like them encourage the enemy.
What does it mean, “to encourage the enemy?”
It means that the enemy gathers will and strength from the prospect of a collapsing political will to seek victory in Iraq and stability in the region.
With that additional strength and will the enemy redoubles and retriples efforts to kill American soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines.
In short, it means that more Americans will die.

If the United States Senate passes a resolution, non-binding or otherwise, that criticizes the commitment of additional troops to Iraq that General Petraeus has asked for and that the president has pledged, and if the Senate does so after the testimony of General Petraeus on January 23 that such a resolution will be an encouragement to the
enemy, I will not contribute to any Republican senator who voted for the resolution. Further, if any Republican senator who votes for such a resolution is a candidate for re-election in 2008, I will not contribute to the National Republican Senatorial Committee unless the Chairman of that Committee, Senator Ensign, commits in writing that none of the funds of the NRSC will go to support the re-election of any senator supporting the non-binding resolution. >>LINK<<

Weapons-grade CIA sting operation

WASHINGTON – Republic of Georgia authorities, aided by the CIA, set up a sting operation last summer that led to the arrest of a Russian man who tried to sell a small amount of nuclear bomb-grade uranium in a plastic bag in his jacket pocket, U.S. and Georgian officials said.

The operation, which neither government has publicized, represents one of the most serious cases of smuggling of nuclear material in recent years, according to analysts and officials.

The arrest underscored concerns about the possibility of terrorists acquiring nuclear bomb-making material on the black market,

Kerry Re-deploys for ’08 Campaign

The poseur bows out (before he even starts). Who drops out next, Edwards, or Biden? And who will be on the ticket under Hillary? My guess is still ex-gov Warner of VA, although Bill Richardson is interesting as well.

And Obama? After the Clinton hit-machine is through with Obama, he will have learned the meaning of “politics ain’t bean bags”

Jan. 24, 2007 — Sen. John F. Kerry, the Democratic nominee for president in 2004, has bowed out of the 2008 contest.

In a speech on the Senate floor, the Senator appeared to tear up when” [making his announcement].

Ex-deputy arrested in 1964 race case

I grew up in the river city of Natchez, Mississippi. I remember these times, and these crimes and others like them. It has taken 40 years for the wheels of justice to finally turn. Forty years for an historically oppressed people to see this day. Forty years for this state to finally confront the long injustices.

For the families of Charles Moore, and Henry Dee.

JACKSON, Miss. – A white former sheriff’s deputy who was once thought to be dead was arrested on federal charges Wednesday in one of the last major unsolved crimes of the civil rights era — the 1964 killings of two black men who were beaten and dumped alive into the Mississippi River.

The break in the 43-year-old case was largely the result of the dogged efforts of the older brother of one of the victims, who vowed to bring the killers to justice.

James Ford Seale, a 71-year-old reputed Ku Klux Klansman from the town of Roxie, was charged with kidnapping hitchhikers Charles Eddie Moore and Henry Hezekiah Dee, both 19

Chavez…ooh… ooh… Master of the Universe!

Calling all criminals!

Just read this at Nemsplace…..Ho Hum…

It’s always great to hear that our government has the safety of it’s citizens utmost in their minds. Unfortunately, this is something we rarely hear. The Home Secretary, John Reid has written to court judges appealing to them to only give jail sentences to the most dangerous criminals. The British prison service is in crises as it reaches it’s maximum capacity of 80,000 prisoners so the government wants to cut down on the number of people sentenced until facilities for an extra 8,000 prisoners have been built.

Things are so desperate that a wing at Norwich jail, which was previously declared unfit for use, is going to be re opened. Things are reaching breaking point and are so serious that officials are advising Reid that he will soon have to start releasing prisoners early to make room for others.

the 8,000 new places are not all expected to be available for at least 4 years and in the mean time, things are so desperate that cells in police stations are having to be used to house prisoners already serving their sentences.

So just where will the line be drawn as to what constitutes a dangerous criminal? Is it just murderers that will be jailed bu rapists and armed robbers be given suspended sentences? Or maybe criminals such as muggers will be told to not be naughty boys or they’ll get a smacked bottom. The prison service has been BEGGING for more prisons to be built for decades but have been totally ignored. Now we’re in the position where there is literally no place to put them. One thing’s for sure, wherever the line is drawn that dictates what crime is deemed serious enough for a jail sentence, you can bet that the number of crimes carried out that fall BELOW that line will skyrocket.

Our safety is being traded off in favour of saving money. That’s the bottom line. Rather than build more prisons, we’re letting them go to do just what the hell they like with no risk.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to rob a bank.
