Paul Rodriguez on immigration reform

Comedian Paul Rodriguez shares his thoughts on illegal immigration, in Dallas  LINK

The illegal immigration issue is a hot-button topic right now; how is that being handled in the Latino entertainment community?

rodriguez.jpg I disagree with my Hispanic brothers. You cannot serve two gods. You cannot have dual citizenship of Mexico and the same for America. I am American; God forbid that we go to war with Mexico, because I know which way I’ll point the gun. “If Mexico is so good,” I tell them, “why leave?”

My parents left because they were starving. I am grateful to this country, and I will lay my life down for it. I feel that if you’re in America illegally, you’ve got two options: You fix your status and get legit, or leave. We should be more in favor of deportation than the non-Latinos, but my brothers don’t feel like that.

What part of illegal don’t they understand? Think about it: Both political parties are talking about reform, but that’s just what it is – talk. We’re a nation of immigrants, but there’s a right way and a wrong way to do things.

  1. There are many Americans of Mexican heritage that feel this way. Taking his position public only guarantees his voice will not be heard by the LameStream media.
    What’s up with the hat?

As I’m sure you’re sick to death of hearing, we are going to DC tomorrow! We will be a proud member of Bloggers Row for the event and we will be providing lots of pictures, video and reporting from the scene!

  3. Y’all have a good’un Jake. Sounds like a fun trip, wish I could be there with you.

  4. Interestingly, there are a lot more people coming across the border than from Mexico. A linguistics professor of mine used to go to Central and South America and record the languages of some Indian tribes which were being killed and driven off their land (he is now deceased, victim of some tropical illness he contracted while in the jungle). He had feared an entire tribe had been killed because they had vanished. He later rediscovered them. The entire tribe had packed up and fled north and were picking oranges in central Florida.

  5. I object to this “Hispanic brothers” garbage. It is racist to call all people who share your genetic background “brother” or “sister.” It creates a false division among Americans. Call all Americans “brother” or “sister,” but do not pretend that the Latino criminal and the Latino brain surgeon have anything in common beyond genetics. Such a pair are less than acquaintances to each other and the “brother” thing is a sorry, racist effort to pretend otherwise.

  6. What the hell is up with that ‘aztlan’ cap?

Rodriguez needs to say what he means, and mean what he says.

  7. The age-old pesky U.S.-Mexico border problem has taxed the resources of both countries, led to long lists of injustices, and appears to be heading only for worse troubles in the future. Guess what? The border problem can never be solved. Why? Because the border IS the problem! It’s time for a paradigm change.

Never fear, a satisfying, comprehensive solution is within reach: the Megamerge Dissolution Solution. Simply dissolve the border along with the failed Mexican government, and megamerge the two countries under U.S. law, with mass free 2-way migration eventually equalizing the development and opportunities permanently, with justice and without racism, and without threatening U.S. sovereignty or basic principles.
