Rules for radicals

Update: We’ve noticed that a large number of readers have found this post looking for a download of Rules for Radicals.

To my knowledge, there isn’t a free version on the net. I have, however found Alinsky’s last interview, given in 1972 to Playboy magazine. It is a great read, and an eye-opener… Here is the pdf (takes a moment to load) alinsky_1972_interview1

alinsky.jpgWho is this man, and what does he have to do with modern leftist political tactics?

His name was Saul Alinsky, the mentor of Hillary Rodham Clinton, and the consigliere emeritus of modern liberalism. His 1971 book, Rules for Radicals, reads like the political playbook of the Soros-Clinton machine, as well as allied groups such as, CREW, ACORN,and others.

Alinsky was also the subject of the previously suppressed 1969 Wellesley Thesis by one Hillary Rodham.

Please feel free to download the pdf. As the election season moves into full swing, it becomes more important than ever to gain insight into our political opponents.

The thesis is long and tedious. I’ve never read a thesis that wasn’t. But, it should also be revealing.

I expect it provides a window into the mind modern democrat party and the lengths to which they will go to achieve power. And, that makes it an important read. I plan on posting some comments after I’ve read it in detail.

So, who was Saul Alinsky? Here is an interesting snapshot of his leftist holy book (h/t Slyfox):

saulalinskyrfr.jpgRules for Radicals provides the organizer with a tactical style for community organization that assumes an adversarial relationship between groups of people in which one either dominates or is dominated.

“The first rule of power tactics is: power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.”

“Wherever possible go outside the experience of the enemy. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat.”

“Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this. They can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.”

Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also, it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage.”

“The threat is generally more terrifying than the thing itself.”

“In a fight almost anything goes. It almost reaches the point where you stop to apologize if a chance blow lands above the belt.”

“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”

One of the criteria for picking the target is the target’s vulnerability … the other important point in the choosing of a target is that it must be a personification, not something general and abstract.”

“The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength.”

The Interstate Hwy. 35W bridge over the Mississippi River collapsed this afternoon, dumping at least eight cars and a truck into the water and land below. It was not clear how many people might be hurt or killed. Workers have been repairing the bridge surface as part of improvements along that stretch of the Interstate. Rescue workers were helping some people from cars in the river. People at the scene said the entire bridge collapsed, leaving part of the roadway submerged and part above water. A number of people were walking around on the roadway that was not submerged.

Tons of concrete have collapsed and people are injured. Survivors are being carried up the riverbank.

“The entire bridge, more or less, has collapsed into the river,” said Lt. Amelia Huffman, Minneapolis police spokeswoman. “It’s unclear what caused it.”

The freestanding bridge was undergoing maintenance and had a MN-DOT crew on it at the time of the collapse, she said. It is unclear the number of cars or people affected by the collapse, “but it’s certainly a substantial number,” she said.

William Larson, an assistant nurse manager at Hennepin County Medical Center, spoke to media at about 7 p.m.

“We have a major disaster going on,” Larson said.

Texans brace for invasion

…from crickets, that is.

This year’s wet weather has caused a “surge” in the cricket population. From AP,

cricket.jpgThey congregate on patios, slip into stairwells and, if they’re crunched under foot, oh do they stink. Crickets are here in force, annoying Texans earlier than usual – thanks to the year’s wet weather in much of the state.

The problem is so bad at the University of Texas at Austin that school officials are taking the unusual step of darkening the 307-foot-tall bell tower for three nights the next two weekends in hopes of keeping the insects away. The bugs are attracted to lights.

Linkfest Haven, the Blogger's OasisTower lights will be turned off early Friday evening through Sunday night, and again for three nights the following weekend, Aug. 3-5.

“The tower is one of their primary targets, of course, because we do have the lights on there,” said Bill Lucas, associate director of facilities maintenance at UT-Austin. He said the crickets gather atop the tower on its observation deck.

Here is a hump-day Open thread for your posting pleasure.
