Who says 2nd place is like kissing your sister?
Not me.
And certainly not Team Huckabee.

A strong showing in the Iowa Straw Polls is a pretty big deal, folks. And, finishing second to a Gozillionaire who spent mega-bucks to win the contest is more than just a moral victory for Governor Huckabee. In fact, it is the campaign’s first real test of organizational strength.

2. Gov. Mike Huckabee with 2587 votes and 18.1%
3. Sen. Sam Brownback with 2192 votes and 15.3%

Moving Day

UPDATE: Yes, were open

Moving day is here. This will most likely be my final post here.

There is still a ton of work to do at conservablogs.com/nuke, but I don’t see any advantage to waiting around.

Part of the delay will be coordinating with the conservablog administrators to upload the goodies to the blog dashboard. Although it is a wordpress blog, it is somewhat different than wordpress.com.

I’ll be sending out login information to everybody, just as soon as I figure out how to do it. Please check your emails later today.

Oh, by the way, when you get to the new site, you’ll notice that the tags, categories, and a lot of bells and whistles are not yet active. But, if we build it they will come.

Many boxes have been unpacked, many yet to go.

Couple of housekeeping issues:

I was able to transfer all of the content from the old site except for categories, authors, and comments. So, I arranged for blogbackuponline to transfer the comments on the post itself, rather than in the comments section. I know it’s tacky, but I couldn’t find a work-around other than leaving the comments behind, which I didn’t want to do.

Second, the categories and authors presents a tougher issue. I want to be able to accredit each author with their work, so I will probably have to go back and re-enter the category tags on those posts, and include the author’s name as a category. That way, you will be able to access each author’s work with a click, without having to go back to the old site to retrieve it. It’s going to take a while, and I ask for your patience.

Also, I am excited to be at Conservablogs.com. I enjoy a challenge, and having so many talented and worthy writers in a single shop is challenging, indeed™. Kind of gets those competitive juices flowing, if you know what I mean. Thanks VH and Tammi for blazing the path, and for your encouragement and friendship. And, thanks Eric for the opportunity, and for the technical support.

Finally, in a giant suck-up to the powers that be at Conservablogs, I would like to draw your attention to a major shindig October 11 – 13 in Reno, The Conservative Leadership Conference. Check out this link, and while you’re there, if you know of a worthy conservative blogger *ahem* that you would like to nominate for Blogger of the Year, such as one who was actually ranked #1 in the world by Technorati, well then you might want to do them the honor of nominating them and saying some nice words, etc.

Yolanda Wagner cried out in agony when her son’s flag-draped coffin emerged from the private jet that transported the fallen Army sergeant to the McComb/Pike County Airport on Thursday.

“It hurts so bad for me to see my son at that door,” she said after a formal military ceremony for the somber return of Sgt. Taurean T. Harris, 22. …

Wagner said after the ceremony that the past week has been difficult.

“I’m trying to be what my son wants me to be, and that’s a true soldier’s mom,” she said.

The procession was led by a legion of area law enforcement agencies and about 30 motorcyclists from the Patriot Guard Riders, an organization that pays tribute to fallen soldiers.

Patriot Guard Riders Captain Ed Baker, said his organization was proud to be a part of the ceremony.

“We look at him as a brother in arms. He lost his life for his country,” said Baker, whose organization will accompany Harris during each subsequent procession.

Northbound Interstate 55 traffic was blocked from the Fernwood exit to the Delaware Avenue exit as the procession made its way to the funeral home. As the procession crossed city intersections, McComb police and fire personnel stood at attention.

Although it has been a trying time for Wagner, she said she’s been bolstered from everyone who has shown support.

“It meant a lot to see the people there honoring my baby,” she said.

After the ceremony, Harris’ grandfather Luther Williams said the only solace the family had was that Harris died doing what he enjoyed, serving his country.

“Knowing that, it’s going to take a big burden off us,” Williams said.

Harris died Aug. 2 from injuries sustained from a roadside bomb in Kala Gush, Afghanistan.

I am humbled to be in the Presence of such selfless and dedicated men and women — patriots, Americans, fellow Mississippians. Godspeed Sgt. Harris.
