Worried about your civil liberties?

Newt Gingrich asks the question, “Are you worried about your civil liberties?”

This short address talks about what might happen to our civil liberties if our country loses a city to a terrorist attack.

Naturally, the people who need to listen to this are more concerned about being loved by the “world community,” and they won’t hear this important message. Still, you hafta try, you know?

The critics are hitting Huck real hard. If he can answer their criticism, his momentum will continue. If not, he will have to drop out.

I’m thinking he is about to deliver a major league b-slap to his critics and continue his rise in the polls.

UPS Pilot Raped 20 young boys.

ATLANTA — A pilot from Washington state was arrested in Atlanta this week on charges he sexually assaulted at least 20 boys at his home over a six-year period and videotaped much of the abuse.

Police and FBI agents arrested Weldon Marc Gilbert, 47, in Atlanta on Thursday and charged him with nine sex crimes, including child rape, child molestation and sexual exploitation of a minor. The Lake Tapps, Wash., resident and pilot for the United Parcel Service was in jail in Atlanta late Friday awaiting extradition to Washington.

Pierce County, Wash., sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said more charges are likely. Police are reviewing more than 100 videotapes and DVDs found at Gilbert’s home, many of which contain “very disturbing graphic images,” Troyer said.

“We just started looking through the tapes, and we’ve already seen 20 different victims,” Troyer told The News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash. “Kids are crying out for help and in pain in some of the videos.”

Hillary Campaign hits a speed bump

Mrs. Clinton flip-flopped within the space of two minutes on whether she supported or opposed giving driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, and her opponents called her on it.

We’re now likely “to see clips of that meandering response show up in attack ads for the rest of the race,” said David Yepsen of the Des Moines Register.

… it could spell big trouble in the general election. Pollster Scott Rasmussen reported a shocking result from a recent poll. In a head-to-head match-up with Libertarian fruitcake Ron Paul, Mrs. Clinton drew just 48 percent of the vote. …

“When we polled among people who knew who Ron Paul is, she got 48 percent of the vote,” Mr. Rasmussen said. “When we polled among people who didn’t know who Ron Paul is, she got 48 percent of the vote.”

Solar array repaired, re-deployed

Physician-astronaut Scott Parazynski, working on the end of a boom carried by the space station’s robot arm, successfully repaired a mangled solar array today, cutting away a snarled guidewire, installing five suture-like braces and then standing by while his crewmates extended the array its full 110-foot length.

Working with deliberate care, astronaut Dan Tani, sending commands from a computer inside the shuttle-station complex, extended the array’s central mast a half bay at a time, stopping and letting Parazynski assess the health of the repairs as tension slowly built up on the just-installed braces.

Demise of the Religious Right?

The cover story of Sunday’s New York Times Magazine pronounced the demise of the religious right in America. The ranks are demoralized, split, and liberal evangelicals are taking over with a new agenda for the environment and the poor. On the editorial page, the acerbic Frank Rich coordinated his column with the magazine, concluding, “Inauguration Day 2009 is at the very least Armageddon for the reigning ayatollahs of the American right.”

Wow! Just three years ago the press touted conservative evangelicals as the most powerful voting block in America. What happened?

Nothing. The press is up to its old tricks. When I was in the White House, the press heralded me as Nixon’s brilliant political strategist. Then within a year, once having built me up, I was called the “White House hatchet man” and a lot worse. The press loves to create monsters, build them up, and then take credit for slaying them. It sells papers.

Hillary is the McCarthy Anti-warrior

Senator Clinton is describing her opposition to the war in Iraq as an extension of Eugene McCarthy’s position in the 1960s movement against the war in Vietnam.

Mrs. Clinton’s comments came at an energy-charged rally yesterday at her alma mater, Wellesley College. Her visit, the ostensible purpose of which was to announce a new Web site aimed at younger voters, hillblazers.com, created palpable excitement on campus. Hundreds of students lined up amid Wellesley’s autumnal splendor for a chance to hear the speech of the 1969 graduate and then moved and bopped to the strands of Smash Mouth’s “I’m a Believer” and the Police’s “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” as they awaited her appearance.

Thousands returing to safer Bagdhad (h/t Robt D)

BAGHDAD — In a dramatic turnaround, more than 3,000 Iraqi families driven out of their Baghdad neighborhoods have returned to their homes in the past three months as sectarian violence has dropped, the government said Saturday.

Saad al-Azawi, his wife and four children are among them. They fled to Syria six months ago, leaving behind what had become one of the capital’s more dangerous districts — west Baghdad’s largely Sunni Khadra region.

The family had been living inside a vicious and bloody turf battle between Al Qaeda in Iraq and Mahdi Army militiamen. But Azawi said things began changing, becoming more peaceful, in August when radical anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr ordered his Mahdi Army fighters to stand down nationwide.

About the same time, the Khadra neighborhood Awakening Council rose up against brutal Al Qaeda control — the imposition of its austere interpretation of Islam, along with the murder and torture of those who would not comply.

I hadn’t thought of it this way….but I like it.

If Mr. Bush actually does make a strike against Iran, Mrs. Clinton will be the only leading Democrat to have played a cameo role in enabling it. If he doesn’t, she can no longer be arguing in the campaign crunch of fall 2008 that she is against rushing to war, because it would no longer be a rush. Her hand would be forced.

Mr. Biden got a well-deserved laugh Tuesday night when he said there are only three things in a Giuliani sentence: “a noun and a verb and 9/11.” But a year from now, after the public has been worn down by so many months more of effective White House propaganda, “America’s mayor” (or any of his similarly bellicose Republican rivals) will be offering voters the clearest possible choice, however perilous, about America’s future in the world.

Potentially facing that Republican may be a Democrat who is not in favor of rushing to war in Iran but, now as in 2002, may well be in favor of walking to war. In any event, she will not have been a leader in making the strenuous case for an alternative policy that defuses rather than escalates tensions with Tehran.

Noun + verb + 9/11 — also Mr. Bush’s strategy in 2004, lest we forget — would once again square off against a Democratic opponent who was for a pre-emptive war before being against it.

SEC Saturday — Nuke’s Pix

It’s November in the SEC………………..—–>> ESPN SCOREBOARD

Need I say more?

Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Georgia all step out of conference for a breather.

In conference games, Vandy is at Florida, Carolina at Arkansas, and in the game of the week, LSU travels to T-town to take on the Tide. State and Kentucky have open dates.

Here are Nuke’s Pix for November 3, 2007…….

Auburn, Tennessee, and Ole Miss all win...big. Lay the points, take the cannoli.

Georgia hosts Troy Between the Hedges. Coming off an emotional victory in the Outdoor Cocktail Party, Georgia is ripe for pickin’. In this week’s upset special, it’s Troy over Georgia by a field goal (sorry Swampie).

Florida wins big over Vandy in the early game.

Carolina wins a physical battle on the road in Fayettville.

And……in the late game on CBS , a great, great game in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This is a tough one to pick, folks. A lot of intangibles with all the Saban stuff. The bye week helps Bama, but LSU has superior athletes. LSU wins in a squeaker.

What say you????

Pakistan: State of Emergency

Update: Martial Law declared
———-

From Yahoo News (AP)-breaking news

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Gen. Pervez Musharraf declared a state of emergency on Saturday, ahead of a crucial Supreme Court ruling on his future as president, thrusting the country deeper into political turmoil as it struggles with spreading Islamic militancy.

The government blocked transmissions of private news channels in several cities and telephone services in the capital, Islamabad, were cut.

Seven Supreme Court judges immediately rejected the emergency, which suspended the current constitution. Police blocked entry to the Supreme Court building and later took the chief justice and other judges away in a convoy, witnesses said.

Opposition leader Benazir Bhutto flew from Dubai on Saturday and was sitting on a plane at Karachi airport, waiting to see if she would be arrested or deported, her spokesman Wajid Hasan said after speaking to the former prime minister by telephone from London.

“The chief of army staff has proclaimed a state of emergency and issued a provisional constitutional order,” a newscaster on state Pakistan TV said, adding that Musharraf would address the nation later Saturday.

I don’t know why anyone should be too concerned about this development, because Pakistan is dominated by Muslims, and Islam is the Religion of Peace™

These developments have NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING to do with Islam.
I’ve told you folks for years now, Islam is a peaceful religion. Anybody who doesn’t know this by now is just a neocon Bushie global warming denier.

You don’t have to believe me…..

Alarming TB count at AL poultry processing plant

All of the employees of Wayne Farms processing, in Decatur, AL have received TB skin tests….the results are mind-boggling. Nearly one-third of the tests came up positive.

All of the employees at the Wayne Farms fresh processing plant in Decatur have received tuberculosis skin tests and 212 of them tested positive.

Health workers read and tabulated a final batch of tests Wednesday, said Scott Jones, interim director of the State Department of Public Health’s Tuberculosis Control Division. Of the 598 tests administered Monday, 165 tested positive.

In skin tests administered to 167 fresh processing employees Oct. 11, 47 tested positive. One of the 47 has active tuberculosis disease, which is contagious.

All told, 28 percent of those who received skin tests at the fresh processing plant tested positive.

While latent TB infection is not contagious, health officials say about 10% of these cases will become active TB if untreated. Coughing, laughing or talking can transmit the airborne tuberculosis bacteria.

“The majority of the folks that we’re dealing with in this situation are foreign born,” Jones said. “I would expect about 30 percent of them to test positive.”

Both employees with active TB disease are Hispanics born in countries with a high incidence of TB, health officials said.

The results aren’t surprising if you are aware that this is not a new problem, and that TB is endemic in Mexico as well as various sh**hole developing countries. My assumption is that illegal aliens are TB positive.

That is not the only business there with active Tb being spread by an Illegal Mexican. Another business had 162 tested and found 10 but on retesting the number has gone up. I won’t go to that town anymore for fear of the plague they have brought on it. That town is about to become an example of how these people are a curse on America.

Edwards campaign gets tough

John Edwards, sensing vulnerability in HRC on the “doublespeak” issue, has come out a TV ad which “drives” the point home.

Drivers Licenses for illegal aliens, that is.

In a new commercial from John Edwards’ campaign, Clinton is shown repeatedly giving painfully careful and often contradictory answers to questions during the last Democratic debate regarding Iraq, Social Security and immigration.

In the crowning final shot, the screen is divided in four quarters. In each, Clinton gives a different answer to a “yes” or “no” question about whether she supports Gov. Spitzer’s plan to give driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.

With the “Blue Danube” waltz playing in the background, the devastating ad ends with a screen that reads: “We still don’t know the answer. That’s the politics of parsing.”

The Politics of Parsing…….

Heh, this campaign might just get interesting yet.

Update: Here is the commercial……
