Thompson crowd goes negative

Following their candidate’s decision to air a negative ad in the Youtube debate, a growing number of right-of-center bloggers have begun an all-out effort to distort and smear Mike Huckabee…..Who’d a thunk it. Hillary and Fred both decide to go negative at the same time. Heh™

Sorry, Jay 777, but I don’t think this is the ACLU’s position on Gitmo….

Press Release: “The men and women of our Armed Forces have served and acted honorably in their duties at Guantanamo Bay and we greatly appreciate their service in keeping our nation free, safe and secure.
I have visited Guantanamo Bay and know that the detainees are more than adequately cared for.

My concern is that the facility has become a distraction from our Global War on Terror. Other facilities, like Fort Leavenworth, can serve the same purpose without the controversy.

As for specific procedures concerning detainee adjudication, like all Americans, I await the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Boumediene case, which will determine if detainees have habeas corpus rights.

As President, my overriding concern in dealing with the suspected terrorists will always be our national security interests. As I stated in June, my first priority will be the protection of the American people and ensuring that all suspected terrorists remain in our custody.”

Somehow, the Thompson crowd thinks this is being “soft on terrorism.”

Funny part about it is, I’ve thought that Fred was a pretty decent candidate, just not my first choice. His decision to run a negative campaign has changed that for me.

Daimler expects huge US demand for tiny Smart car

smartcar.jpgGerman car maker Daimler said Tuesday that next month’s launch of its tiny Smart car in the United States will unleash such stiff demand the company will have trouble meeting it.”We will not be able to meet demand thus far” for 2008, Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche said here at a news briefing.More than 30,000 US customers have put down 99-dollar deposits to reserve one of the fuel-saving, two-seat Smart Fortwo, which will begin arriving in the massive US market in January, he said.

“Down payments are going far beyond the production capacity we have,” the chairman said, without providing a sales forecast for the US market.

The Smart Fortwo will be marketed via 70 dealerships in the leading US cities, the company said.

In its most basic version, the micro car will sell for $11,590, excluding tax. The company said that a Smart equipped with all the options was expected to cost some $20,000, including tax.

It is being marketed as an environmentally friendly vehicle, and is targeted toward younger drivers.

I would like to see some of the Insurance Institute crash/safety ratings before I would buy one.

Huckabee: The momentum continues

This is absolutely amazing.

Daily tracking numbers from Rasmussen shows Huck and Rudy tied for the lead nationally.

“With less than a month to go before the Iowa caucuses, the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that Rudy Giuliani has fallen back in the pack in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. Giuliani’s support has fallen to 18% and four other candidates are within six percentage points of the lead. Mike Huckabee is enjoying an amazing surge and now shares the top spot with Giuliani at 18%. Close behind are John McCain at 14%, Fred Thompson at 13%, and Mitt Romney at 12%. Ron Paul attracts 7% of Likely Republican Primary voters nationwide and no other Republican candidate reaches 2% (see recent daily numbers).”
