Would Ronald Reagan endorse your candidacy?

Absolutely the best response of the evening, and Mike Huckabee knocked it out of the park:

HUCKABEE:

huck2.jpgI think it would be incredibly presumptuous and even arrogant for me to try to suggest what Ronald Reagan would do, that he would endorse any of us against the others.

Let me just say this, I’m not going to pretend he would endorse me. I wish he would. I would love that, but I endorse him, and I’m going to tell you why.

It wasn’t just his specific policies, but Ronald Reagan was something more than just a policy wonk. He was a man who loved this country, and he inspired this country to believe in itself again.

What made Ronald Reagan a great president was not just the intricacies of his policies, though they were good policies. It was that he loved America and saw it as a good nation and a great nation because of the greatness of its people.

And if we can recapture that, that’s when we recapture the Reagan spirit. It’s that spirit that has a can-do attitude about America’s futures and that makes us love our country whether we’re Democrats or Republicans. And that’s what I believe Ronald Reagan did — he brought this country back together and made us believe in ourselves.

And whether he believes in us, I hope we still believe in those things which made him a great leader and a great American.

Huckabee could go a long way towards rebuilding the Reagan coalition by offering the VP slot to Mitt Romney. It could work.

  2. Henh…yeah, that’s the ticket, let Romney drop out, and give Fred a run for his money on the VP ticket. At least we would have the only conservative going head to head with Mc.
Still lots of cussing and discussing before next Tuesday. I have turned off all of the talk radio shows I normally listen to, except for Rush. Hewitt has been pushing Mitt for months, Medved has been shaking his McCain pom-poms for quite a while, and all Levin does is bash Mike. If the teacher asked them to turn in their homework, they would get an F, cause they are all deficient in their research, it’s just pure emotion. So screw them, they don’t speak for me, and now, not to me, concerning their choices. At least Rush has enough sense and honesty, not to endorse any candidate over the other, even if he does address issues or records of the candidates.

  4. Huck can still win this thing. It’s uphill and against the wind, but he is running well in the South plus Oklahoma and Missouri.

The one thing no one has mentioned much, if at all, is that Huckabee and Romney tied in Florida. Neither one of them got any delegates. And, Romney only holds a 17 delegate lead over Huck going into SDT.

A good showing on SDT and Romney may look favorably at the VP slot with Huck at the top of the ticket. Uniting the socons with the fiscons against mc. It could work.

  5. Maybe more dreaming than realistic.
    But, it ain;t over yet.

  7. Hey, it’s all a dream, until the delegates are counted this summer.
I know for a fact that this time last year, Mike wasn’t really considering this, but his hard core supporters were pushing him to do it.
Once he got in it, he was in it to win it. It ain’t over, til he says it is.

  8. Well, there is one thing Huck could do to win over the doubters.
He could answer the “tax cuts for the rich” meme.

He probably knows how to do it, if not, I could tell him. I haven’t wanted to post it, but I might post it this weekend

  9. This weekend?
I thought you was gonna be watching the NOLA flashers, and such.
I saw a clip over at Gateway, where McCain starting to get mad and smarmy, haven’t watched it yet, but the comments seemed to indicate the real Mc was on the verge of coming out. Maybe just coming right out and calling him a liar would give him the needed push for him to come unhinged.
I haven’t been home much this week, and got home even later than last night, so didn’t see or hear any of it. Buddy is so happy when I come home, God Bless Him, and I have to spend some time with him. Just now, he is in his chair next to mine, and we have been playing, and he was doing his Mike Tyson impersonation. He would box with me, and when he couldn’t stand it no more, he started biting. LOL.

  10. We’re coming back Friday night.

Yeah, he was close to popping a cork.

  11. I hope they make him really pop, for everyone to see what a little bully he is, and that he is incapable of controlling his rage, when the heat is on.

  12. Dangit!
Since you rearranged the furniture, I can’t find the South Park link.

    /in tagalog

I found it, finally. Who would have thought to look at the very first link?

  20. heh.

    I’m outta here.

    See y’all this weekend.

  21. Be safe, nuke, and stay away from the…CROSSROADS!

  22. Just what does “wonk” mean? As in, “It wasn’t just his specific policies, but Ronald Reagan was something more than just a policy wonk”. I know I should know this, but it slipped by somewhere.

  23. I don’t know it’s origins, but it means some one who deeply engrossed in policy and it’s implementation.

  24. I got to shut’er down.
    Busy week this week.
Which is good, after the three weeks of mind numbing lack of business during the holidays.

  25. Thanks n2l, I thought it might be an acronym for something.

  26. g’nite again n2l.
