R.I.P Charlton Heston! You Will Be Missed!

The following quote is a statement from the family of Charlton Heston.

“To his loving friends, colleagues and fans, we appreciate your heartfelt prayers and support. Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played. Indeed, he committed himself to every role with passion, and pursued every cause with unmatched enthusiasm and integrity.

We knew him as an adoring husband, a kind and devoted father, and a gentle grandfather, with an infectious sense of humor. He served these far greater roles with tremendous faith, courage and dignity. He loved deeply, and he was deeply loved.

No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country. In his own words, “I have lived such a wonderful life! I’ve lived enough for two people.”

Also, there is this article from the LATimes, with a look at his accomplishments.
For my part, he was one of my favorite actors. His parts and performances, in some of the most epic movies ever made, were powerful, sensitive, thought provoking, and entertaining. I can remember wanting to stand up and cheer when he vanquished his opponent in the chariot race from Ben Hur, and I could feel his spirituality in his performance as Moses. His efforts in promoting civil rights, whether fighting for actors in Hollywood as the President of the actors union, marching with Martin Luther King, or as President of the National Rifle Association, he always gave of himself for worthy causes. Mr. Heston, by his behavior and conduct, was a man, and I feel sorrow for his passing, for his loving family, and for the loss of such a strong role model for our society.
God Speed Mr. Heston, thank you for all you have done. Your rest is well earned.

  5. Oh my gosh, I must have missed this. I loved him. He was a wonderful actor and a very intelligent guy. He sleeps with angels now – bless him.

  6. I forgot a personal story about Mr. Heston. I was at the NRA convention of 2001, in KC with my old friend Bob C.
All of the business meetings, and official ceremonies were over in the main hall, and we had gone to the exhibit hall, to see all of the new products by the gun manufacturers, and related businesses.
We were getting a little hungry, so we headed over to the snack bar. We both had two plastic shopping bags full of literature from the manufacturers, and we each had a bag with personal items, as we changed our shoes from dress shoes to tennis shoes for walking in the huge hall, and one bag included my camera, which had just run out of film.
Bob C. was holding all of our gear, while I got us something to eat and drink, when I heard Bob call my name. I turned to look at him, and he was nodding his head to the left. I looked in that direction, and here was our President, Charlton Heston, standing next to the exit with his entourage, and a large group of his admirers. He was being very gracious, taking photos, and chatting with these folks, but was obviously wanting to exit, as it was widely known, he had forestalled hip replacement surgery while the NRA President, so he would be able to meet all of the obligations of his office. I looked at Bob and he at me…we with filled hands, and not enough time to find a place to put our gear, find the camera, put in a new roll of film, as he was heading out the door.

  7. great man without discussion
