War in Gaza

Israel has had enough.

The IDF has attacked Hamas installations in Gaza in a well-executed series of air strikes. Over 200 deaths are reported. Carl in Jerusalem has more:

The IDF began its long-awaited attack on Hamas-controlled Gaza at 11:30 AM Saturday, and according to initial reports managed to catch Hamas off-guard, after deliberately sending soldiers home on furloughs Thursday to create the impression that a military strike was not imminent.

The operation is codenamed “Cast Lead” – a phrase taken from a well known Chanukah song which refers to “cast-lead draydels.”

At least 80 IAF aircraft, including both jets and helicopters, struck pre-selected targets in Gaza, reportedly dropping at least 100 tons of ordinance. According to Arab sources in Gaza, the death toll there is 200. By 7:00 PM, one report said it had reached 205.

As Carl notes, one sure sign of Israeli success is the call from the EU for “restraint.” French President Sarkozy dusts off the old saw of “disproportionate use of force,” but I doubt that even the French would stand by and allow their towns to be targeted by years of rocket and mortar fire under the guise of a truce.

  1. What took ’em so long?

  2. I hope it’s a training mission for the Iran assault. Might as well get it done before Jan. 20.

  3. This massacre on Gaza by Israel,
is going to create world wide anti-Semitism.
Zionists are no friend to Jews.

  4. Massacre?
    Hardly.
Targeting the leadership, fighters, and weapons storage of a terrorist organization is called self-preservation.
As for the Jews you mention, you must mean those who are worshipers of liberalism. The Jews I know believe in the phrase “never again.”
