Dear President Obama,
My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don’t believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.
I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos’n Mate. Now I live in a “rest home” located on the western end of Pearl Harbor allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.
One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.
So here goes.
I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.
I can’t figure out what country you are the president of. You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like:
” We’re no longer a Christian nation”
” America is arrogant” – (Your wife even announced to the world,”America is mean-spirited. ” Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.)
I’d say shame on the both of you but I don’t think you like America nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.
After 9/11 you said,” America hasn’t lived up to her ideals.”
Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British ? Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War ? I hope you didn’t mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers,husbands,and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around because we stand for freedom.
I don’t think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.
Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man. Shape up and start acting like an American.If you don’t, I’ll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue .You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.
And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don’t want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts who was putting up a fight ? You don’t mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don’t want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists.
One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life but you’re the Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job. When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But if you’re not in this fight to win, then get out. The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you’re thinking of.
You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president. You’re not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That’s not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now. And I sure as hell don’t want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle.

Four Washington police officers ambushed

“A scene out of a horror movie….”

LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Four police officers were shot and killed in a bloody Sunday morning ambush at a Lakewood-area coffee shop, officials said.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ed Troyer called the ambush “a targeted attack” on the four Lakewood police officers as they were preparing to start their shifts at about 8:30 a.m.

Officials at the scene said one or two gunmen burst into the Forza Coffee Co. outlet at 11401 Steele St. South, shot the four uniformed officers as they were working on their laptop computers, then fled the scene.

City leaders report that business is brisk in the sex trade, and that evenings mean big bucks, as many global warmers, politicians and civil servants are reported to have availed themselves of the city’s prostitutes.

““We’ve been extremely busy. Politicians also need to relax after a long day,” says ‘Miss Dina’, herself a prostitute.”

Perhaps this is the kind of capitalism that the socialists approve of. Or, maybe after screwing over the public through the cap and trade tax plan, the Goremons need some time to unwind.

Fred Thompson adopts the Reid Doctrine

The Reid Doctrine™: The bold declaration of pre-emptive surrender made by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in April 2007.

It was quickly echoed by both Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Joe Biden, as well as Barack Obama, John Kerry (who served in Viet Nam), and a host of other Democrats.

At The Politico, Ben Smith reports that a Republican, Fred Thompson, has adopted the Reid Doctrine™ in his criticism of Obama’s handling of the “overseas contingency operation” in Afghanistan …

“It really doesn’t matter how President Obama divides the Afghan baby, how he splits the difference between McChrystal and Biden. Because the war has been lost,” Thompson said on his radio show today. “I say this because of one sad and simple fact. The president does not have the will and determination to do what’s necessary to win it. His heart’s not in it, and never has been. The Taliban knows it. Al Qaeda knows it. Our allies know it. And the American people know it. {snip}

“Take your time, Mr. President,” Thompson said. Unless you have a total change of heart and mind, it really doesn’t make any difference.”

Obviously, the irony of accusing Obama of delivering a half-hearted effort is lost on Big Fred.

Regardless, this rhetoric is no more acceptable coming from a Republican than it is from a Democrat.

Shame on you, Fred Thompson.

Five Years Ago Today Came Rushing Back!

I was sitting at an intersection today that I haven’t had occasion too in some time. It occurred to me that this seemed oddly familiar; the time of day, the intersection and the fact I was in the left turn lane waiting for the light.

Then the cruel realization, that my psyche was being tormented once again. Another painful reminder of a gut shredding memory.

Today was the day, five years ago, that my dear, sweet Momma became ill.
The hospital, Medical City, located at the intersection I found myself in and the same left turn lane that led to the ER, and later, the parking lot that I used for the next eight days.

As the memory struck, the light turned green and the video of those days from five years ago began playing in my mind’s eye, as I drove past the massive complex.

In the ER we learned how serious her condition was, intestinal ischemia, and her first of three surgeries was soon performed. Each day brought more hope and anguish, until the day the doctor informed us how deadly serious her condition was and my brother and I had to make the decision to remove the respirator.

The decision was made out of love for her. The loving and lovable mother I had always had in my world, regardless of where I was located in it; the wonderful woman who gave me existence and was there for my first gasp of air, would take her last sip of air with me stroking her hair and offering comforting words.

Two days before, in a brief lucid moment she was looking past me out the hospital window and seemed transfixed. She couldn’t talk with the tube in her throat, but would nod in response and I asked her if she saw something. She nodded yes without looking at me.

I stood and stepped aside so as not to impede her view and to try and see what it was she was so interested in. The hospital was in a major physical plant improvement and a large building crane was reflecting in the windows across the way.

It looked like a giant crucifix.

As her breathing stopped and she had clearly passed from this mortal plane, all the family gathered withdrew to a private room reserved for us. I excused myself under the pretense of wanting a cigarette. I made it just to the outer edge of the covered driveway in front of the building, when I pulled the handkerchief from my pocket, opened it fully, covered my face and let out a scream, while dumping copious amounts of tears and mucous. I kept that up for several minutes and heard some people walking by whispering to each other about my despair. I wasn’t embarrassed and I didn’t feel any better, but I had to release the pain that had been building for days out of my system.

There was still so much to do.

One thing was different today. The weather was cool and clear, unlike the day the lord called my Momma home. At the very moment that she stopped breathing, a severe thunderstorm struck. There were reports of heavy rain and strong straight line winds, possibly a tornado. I do not now, nor did I then, think that storm was a coincidence. It was a sign.

Soon after the video and these thoughts ran through my mind, I was past the hospital and left to ponder all that had transpired.

Losing a loved one is always difficult and intensely personal.

Losing my Momma was the most difficult experience I have encountered and I haven’t been, nor do I expect to be, the same ever again.

Nearly 35 years after taxpayers spent $55.7 million building the Pontiac Silverdome and a year after a $20 million sale fell through, city officials have sold the arena once called the most desirable property in Oakland County.

The price: $583,000.

“This was a giveaway,” said David J. Leitch, a broker with an Auburn Hills based realty firm.

By my calculations, that’s about 1% of the actual cost to build the dome.

The winning bidders also got the surrounding 127 acres thrown in for free.

So, how bad is it in Detroit?

Judge David Hamilton found it Constitutionally offensive to pray a prayer opening the Indiana Legislative session “in Jesus’ name,” but, specifically found it OK to for an Imam pray invoking the name of “Allah.”

Obama must be exhausted, having to tote that huge brain around with him all the time.

Hamilton is a liberal idealogue, and should be rejected by the Senate.

The H1N1 Flu Shot Casualty List Grows!

I’m certain some will claim the following stories from Organic Health blog are anecdotal. I, however, do not and have been suspicious of the approach to this form of flu that our alleged government has taken.

In this instance, the casualties are the unborn, as one of the categories claimed to be at high risk is pregnant mothers.

Earl Blumenauer of Oregon said the President asked them, “Does anybody think that the teabag, anti-government people are going to support them if they bring down health care? Our President believes middle-aged, middle-class, Americans who exercise their First Amendment rights are “extremists”, but warns against “jumping to conclusions” when an Islamic radical commits mass murder on a U.S. base.

From his wildly inappropriate remarks in the early aftermath of the Ft Hood terrorist attack, to his knee-jerk defense of muslim terrorists, the current occupant of the White House continues to prove that he is unsuited for the office he holds. Ft Hood killer still alive

This is strange.  He was first reported dead, but now KWTX is reporting that Malik Nidal Hasan is still alive.

FORT HOOD (November 5, 2009)— Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan whom Fort Hood officials identified as the soldier who opened fire Thursday afternoon on post, killing 12 and wounding 30 others, is not dead, according to the post’s commander, who earlier said the gunman was dead.

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone declined to comment on Hasan’s condition.

Hasan was reportedly taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Fort Hood ended its lockdown Thursday evening.

Fox News is now reporting there may be two shooters on the loose, and the possibility of terrorism as the motive.

Update: The murderer has been identified as Psychiatrist, Maj Malik Nidal Hasan. Two other suspects have been questioned and released. MPs are searching for a third suspect as the Post remains on lockdown.

This is beginning to sound eerily similar to the case of Sgt Asan Akbar, whose March 2003 fragging incident in Kuwait sent shockwaves through the 101st Airborne.

“They were telling him that one guy was shouting something in Arabic while he was shooting,” Tom Hunt said. “He couldn’t say much more than that.”
