Yesterday, April 27, 2011, a day of weather infamy in the Deep South.

The cost in human lives is over 200 souls. In property damage, it is in the hundreds of millions of dollars. It is staggering to hear some of the descriptive phrases: like “apocalyptic,” “something out of a war zone,” “wiped off the map,” “carpet bombed.”

And if that’s not enough, the talk from the emergency responders is that this round needs to get cleaned up quickly, before the Mississippi River flooding starts next week. That flooding is also expected to be a record.

Here is a photo essay from the (Jackson) Clarion Ledger. And here is a photo from Smithville, MS, which was described as “obliterated.”

May The Lord bless these folks, and be near to them in their time of need.

  1. My prayers go out to all that was impacted by the weather. Mother nature can be very vengeful at times. Nuke, is all our cyber-family ok?

  2. Was talking with a friend today, wondering what the news was from Mississippi. Every one heard about the devastation in Alabama, but having watched this destructive storm narrowly miss Dallas to the South by a few miles, we watched it barrel due East. Just like one bad ass storm that blew threw here early Monday morning, with torrential rain, hail and 60mph winds blew straight to Arkansas and cause extensive damage.
Sure hope you and your clan were unscathed by the destruction, nuke.
God Bless all those poor souls who were lost to those tornadoes.
