The Daily Stupid: Ron Paul

This morning’s dose of stupid comes from libertarian/republican presidential candidate, Ron Paul.

You see, Ron is not too happy that jihadi terrorist Anwar Al-Awlaki was killed by predator drones in Yemen. source

Paul said al-Awlaki, a U.S.-born Islamic cleric suspected of involvement in several terror plots, should have been afforded a trial as an American citizen.

“No, I don’t think that’s a good way to deal with our problems,” Paul told MSNBC. “Al-Awlaki was born here, he is an American citizen. He was never tried or charged for any crimes. No one knows if he killed anybody. We know he might have been associated with the underwear bomber. But if the American people accept this blindly and casually that we now have an accepted practice of the president assassinating people who he thinks are bad guys, I think it’s sad.”

Attack of the Killer Cantaloupes

From Times UK

Cantaloupes infected with listeria have sparked the deadliest US foodborne disease outbreak in more than a decade and are likely to claim more victims in the weeks ahead, officials have warned.

5:27PM BST 29 Sep 2011

Thirteen people have died and 72 have fallen ill after eating cantaloup from Colorado-based Jensen Farms in the first-ever outbreak of the pathogen in whole melons, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

Four distinct strains of listeria monocytogenes – a bacterium that causes listeriosis and is among the most virulent foodborne pathogens – have been traced to Jensen Farms, which issued a recall in mid-September

Four distinct strains? That sounds unusual to me.

CDC is warning that due to the long incubation period of the disease, the situation is very likely to get worse in the weeks to come.

Florida GOP Debate

Don’t look now, but Newt Gingrich just won another Republican debate. Tonight in Orlando, Florida, he was the clear winner. Newt came across as the smartest and most complete candidate in the room. He even had the best “moment” of all of the candidates.

When asked what he would do to help the country regain its confidence, Newt’s answer was a homerun. He recalled the Ronald Reagan bromide: “When your brother-in-law is out of work, you’re in a recession. When you are out of work, you’re in a depression. When Jimmy Carter’s out of work, the country will be in recovery.” Newt said the defeat of Barack Obama would be the single most important economic stimulus that the country needs.

Rick Perry lost ground tonight. So did the Massachusetts governor, who reminded me again of why I would like to punch him in the mouth. Michelle Bachman’s biggest problem is that she isn’t Sarah Palin. Ron Paul, John Huntsman, and that Johnson fellow somehow think they are running for the libertarian nomination. Sorry, but they were just on the wrong stage. Herman Cain and Rick Santorum had their opportunities, but didn’t change their also-ran status.

Unless Sarah Palin gets in the race, I’m going to have to seriously consider Newt Gingrich for the top spot.

Anyway, that’s the way I saw it. What about you?

President Zero

Rick Perry’s commercial hits the incumbent where he is most vulnerable.

I give it a solid 9.5.

I think it’s appropriate …

On behalf of this country, I think it’s appropriate to apologize to … muslims?

Huh?

Mike Quigley, Chicago democrat presumes that he should speak for this nation (around the 2:15 mark — h/t Rebel Pundit) in his speech to a group of muslim students in Chicago.

Mike Quigley has made his choice.

Atta boy Mikey.

Maybe they’ll kill you last. You dumbfuck. And, I think it’s appropriate to apologize to dumfucks everywhere for including you in their group.

Solyndra Part Deux

Just because it worked so well the first time around, U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu today announced the Energy Department finalized a $1.2 billion loan guarantee to Mojave Solar LLC for the development of the Mojave Solar Project.

I suppose that the half a billion bucks that Obama squandered on Solyndra wasn’t enough. True to form, the Administration has doubled down.

Call this one Son of Solyndra.

On This Day

In 1814, Francis Scott Key wrote “The Star Spangled Banner.”

One of the best performances I’ve ever seen came over the weekend in Chicago.

Thank you Mr. Jim Cornelison. That was stirring!

Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme

Krugman says social security is ponzi scheme

Gov Rick Perry says so. So did NYT economist and columnist Paul Krugman.

Evil is real. So is courage

From the dedication of the Flight 93 Memorial, President George W. Bush gave one of his finest speeches.

“At the moment American democracy was under attack our citizens defied their captors by holding a vote. The choice they made would cost them their lives. And they knew it. Many passengers called their loved ones to say good-bye. Then hung up to perform their final act.”

“The Flight 93 heroes led the first counter attack in the WAR ON TERROR.”

“Let’s Roll.”

Nothing Beats Home Cooking

It’s fourth down, Auburn goes for it and is stuffed.

The measurement … TV clearly shows space between the end of the chain and the tip of the ball.

The call? Auburn 1st and 10.

See for yourself …

This call is almost as blatantly bad as the call in the Big-12 championship game a few years ago when the refs put time back on the clock to allow texas to kick a FG and beat Nebraska.

Almost.

Nothing beats home cooking. Damn I hate those mother-17-ers.

hat tip@ClarkSeal

Update: SEC Spokeshole Steve Shaw issued this statement regarding the call …

”When the officiating crew put the first down stake in its final position, the nose of the football was touching the stake making it a first down.”

Mississippi State defensive back Charles Mitchell, who was standing above the ball on the field, said there was “definitely daylight” between the ball and the yard marker. “They didn’t get it,” said Mitchell, “but they gave it to them.”

Harper responds to Totus speech

While there was no televised GOP response to Pres Obama’s speech to a joint session of Congress this evening, many members have taken advantage of the power and reach of the new media to craft a different kind of response. One that, given the kickoff of the NFL season, will allow the GOP to craft a message that readers can view at a time of their own choosing.

Here is the response from Gregg Harper, MS-3:

“Our nation continues to suffer from a serious jobless problem, which is why I support a pro-business legislative agenda that removes barriers our job creators face from excessive federal regulations.

“While I agree with the president that we must get folks back to work, I do not believe that another failed stimulus is the answer.

“House Republicans have advanced a number of job-creating proposals – many of which have passed with bipartisan support – that remain stalled in the Democratic-controlled Senate. I urge the president to support these initiatives which promote private sector growth, decrease job-crushing regulations and boost American-made energy production.”

Zero

For the first time since 1945, the federal government reported a net monthly job change of  Z-E-R-O.

“The bottom line is this is bad,” Diane Swonk, chief economist with financial services firm Mesirow Financial, told CNBC Friday.
