Sharks are about as useful as rats, but they are far more entertaining.

I’ll never forget a visit I made to Manila back in 1974. The huge open market was buzzing with the knowledge that an enormous great white shark had been caught and was being brought to the market.

The crowd was huge and most were eagerly waiting for a chance to buy some of the meat. As the shark was hoisted up by its tail the enormity of the fish was amazing. Then a man stepped up with a sharp knife and gutted it. The contents of its stomach came flooding out, including obvious remnants of a human.

The crowd gasped and quickly dispersed. I don’t know if they sold any of that meat that day.

I still laugh about that event to this day.

So far, 20 fire trucks and at least 4 ambulances plus NYPD have responded to a massive fire in the J. P. Morgan gold warehouse.   Located 10 stories below One Chase Manhattan Plaza on Wall Street, the repository currently holds an all-time low of 46,000 ounces.  With over one half million ounces reportedly standing against JP Morgan for the June contract, the dwindling supplies may signal something more ominous.

2008 saw the demise and bankruptcy of Lehman.

Merrill Lynch, AIG, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, HBOS, Royal Bank of Scotland, and others all came within a whisker of doing so and had to be rescued.

Considering that  the OTC market and futures and options are an estimated 92xgreater than the underlying physical market, this cannot, and will not, end well for holders of paper Gold, or the banking system overall.

White People Rioting!!

A neighborhood watch man, an adult carrying a concealed weapon, shot and killed an unarmed teenage boy and was just found not-guilty by a jury after two days of deliberations.

“I just want to say thank you to the people who believed in me, who stood by me,” [the shooter] said following the verdict. “I still have my regrets for the [young boy’s] family; it’s still an unfortunate situation for them. I am happy that at least this chapter is over.”

As deliberations dragged on over two days and the jury asked for testimony to be read back, [the shooter] admits he didn’t know how it would all turn out.

“I was nervous of course,” he said. “You never know what direction this whole thing is going to turn, so I have no idea. But it worked out and I feel that justice (was) served today.”

[The boy’s] family members say justice wasn’t served. They say [he] was murdered in cold blood, that he’d never been in trouble and [the shooter] acted as judge, jury and executioner.

“The message is that we can all go out and get guns and feel anybody that we feel is threatening us and lie about the fact,” said [the boy’s] father. “My son never threatened anybody. He was a gentle child, his nature was gentle, he was a good person and he was never, ever arrested for anything, and has never been in trouble. He was 16 years and four months old, and he was slaughtered.”

I’m shocked you missed President Obama’s statement when he found out about the shooting, “If the white half of me had a son he would have looked like Christopher Cervini.”

You might have even missed the uproar surrounding the Department of Justice having their Community Relations Services group in Rochester, NY organize demonstrations of white upstate New Yorkers demanding a special prosecutor be appointed to investigate this cold blooded murder of a gentle white boy by a black man wearing a hoodie.

Actually, I’m not shocked that you missed all that news since it wasn’t really news outside of Rochester, NY.  Here’s a summary of what happened.

Scott says he acted in self defense when he confronted Cervini and two others saying they were stealing from neighbors cars. He told them he had a gun and ordered them to freeze and wait for police.

Scott says he shot Cervini twice when the victim charged toward him yelling he was going to get Scott.

Based on what I’ve been able to find, the jury reached the correct verdict in Scott’s case just as they did in the Zimmerman trial.

I can understand how Christopher Cervini’s dad could say what he said just like I can understand how Trayvon Martin’s parents can say what they say.  It’s called “grief”.  It’s also called “denial”.

I also understand why we haven’t heard a word from President Obama, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the NAACP or anything about expanded investigations from the Department of Justice.

That is called “hypocrisy”.

At that statement, the jeweler went to his special stock and brought another ring over. ‘Here’s a stunning ring at only $40,000 the jeweler said. The lady’s eyes sparkled and her whole body trembled with excitement.
The old man seeing this said, ‘We’ll take it.’

The jeweler asked how payment would be made and the man stated, ‘By check. I know you need to make sure my check is good, so I’ll write it now and you can call the bank Monday to verify the funds and I’ll pick the ring up Monday afternoon.’

On Monday morning, the jeweler angrily phoned the old man and said, ‘There’s no money in that account.’
‘I know,’ said the old man, ‘But let me tell you about MY GREAT WEEKEND!’

NCAA Football=57 Days — The Evolving Fullback

An excellent piece at SB Nation Football Study Hall, The run game renaissance and the return of the fullback.

In the midst of the spread-option revolution that’s currently taking place, the fullback is again finding a role as the tactics of spacing out defenders and then out-flanking them has begun to find uses for players that can function as powerful bludgeons.

Having watched football formations evolve for over fifty years now and memories of some true tough guys that played fullback, it always amazed me that too often that position was schematically abandoned or minimized. In fact, for the past several years the All-American voting hasn’t even included the fullback position. I’m glad the author of the piece has recognized the position and acknowledged how vital it is to an offense.

OU Coach Stoops has always had a fullback in his backfield from J.D. Runnels in the early 2000’s, to the three they have employed for the past few years…Bird, Ripkowski and of course current fan favorite Trey Millard.

Who knows, with all the “evolving” that takes place in football, we may yet return to leather helmets and Split T formations in our lifetimes.

in-god-we-trustSometimes I wonder if we have reached a similar tipping point with regards to our own federal government.  I also wonder where we would find such men as the founders of this republic, to lead, to communicate, and to educate the many who could not care less.

Our great Republic is in trouble.  Are there enough good men left who will stand?  We know that the Power to change the country does not reside in Washington, D.C., but in the same Creator who has endowed each of us with those certain inalienable rights, so eloquently expressed 237 years ago this day.  Stated with equal certainty is the official motto of the country, “In God We Trust.”

In these words I find comfort.  In God, I have hope.

To my friends and to the readers of this blog, have a happy and safe Independence Day.

 

So Confused

Back in the good old days, when I was just a young ‘honkey’, everything seemed so clear.

Now? I don’t know if I am a ‘creepy-ass cracker’(racist pejorative) or a ‘creepy ass-cracker’(homosexual pejorative) or a ‘creepy ass cracker.’(term of endearment?)
