A Warning for America, Geert Wilders

A guest post from The Florida Security Council (Originally Published on Jun 23, 2013)

“Polls show that the influence of those Muslims who live according to islam’s aggressive requirements is growing, especially among young people.Among 15-year-old German Muslims, 40 percent consider islam more important than democracy.Among Muslim university students in Britain, 40 percent support sharia. One in three of those students considers it legitimate to kill in the name of islam.”

The Sign of Jonah

But he answered and said unto them,

An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah.

Matthew 12:39

christians-crucufied-syriaIn the ancient city of Mosul, Christians have been told they must convert to mohammedism, face the sword, or leave forever.  Christianity in Iraq is on the brink of extinction.  Churches have been laid to ruin, property plundered, and families brutalized and murdered.  The same in Syria, as reports of the crucifiction of Christians who would not renounce their faith have emerged.

Also this week the tomb of the prophet Jonah was destroyed.

The destruction of Jonah’s tomb was not an attack on archaeology. It was an attack on both those Christians living in Iraq today and on the rich  Christian heritage of the region.  (read more)

The sign of Jonah is recognized as representing the death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ.  I have no personal revelation that the destruction of the tomb in Mosul is in any way related to the Scripture that I quoted to begin this post, but it was the very first thing that occurred to me when I saw the video report on cable news.

In America, the list of scandals and power grabs by President Obama grows longer with each passing week.  Presidential approval ratings have fallen to their lowest levels since the Jimmy Carter debacle, with no end in sight.  And yet, he keeps the gas pedal  to the floor, the Cloward Piven strategy stretching the nation to the breaking point.

With so many people oblivious to current events, blaming the blameless for their own problems and struggles, and captivated by the poisonous demogoguery of souless, sold-out politicians, how can our society do anything but crash and burn?

And so, I remain by day a businessman.  By night, a father, grandfather, and husband, trying to keep my head in a world spinning out of control.  King David once said that his rod and his staff provided him comfort.  With me, it is my carbine and my food pantry.

I fear this will end soon.  Badly.

Dead Banker (in the middle of the road)

The latest:

 Daily Mail ^ 7/21/14

A Goldman Sachs managing director has died following an apparent kiteboarding accident, police said.

The body of 39-year-old Nicholas Valtz was found floating off Lazy Point in Napeague Harbor, Long Island, on Sunday.

The amateur kiteboarder was still attached to his kite, while his gear was scattered in a grassy area of the harbor.

The East Hampton Star reported the Brooklyn resident went kiteboarding early in the morning.

When he failed to return by 2pm, relatives he was staying with at a Bridgehampton home called police.

‘We’re deeply saddened by this tragedy and our thoughts are with Nick’s family,’ Goldman Sachs spokesman Michael DuVally told Bloomberg.

Police are still investigating the death and an autopsy will be undertaken.

Crash Much? 13 more IRS computers have crashed. Doh!

Let’s say our country had no current tax system and was in the process of designing a federal tax system, and there were two competing proposals on the table.  The voters had to choose between what we have on the books right now, with the mish-mash of 75,000 pages, stocked full of loopholes, contradictory language, and a thoroughly corrupt and politically intimidating tax enforcement agency, or a 125 page simple tax system that taxed consumption.  Which do you think the people would choose?  I mean, is there any doubt?  Whatsoever?

IRSFrom the DC:

IRS Deputy Associate Chief Counsel Thomas Kane said in transcribed congressional testimony that more IRS officials experienced computer crashes, bringing the total number of crash victims to “less than 20,” and also said that the agency does not know if the lost emails are still backed up somewhere.

The new round of computer crash victims includes David Fish, who routinely corresponded with Lois Lerner, as well as Lerner subordinate Andy Megosh, Lerner’s technical adviser Justin Lowe, and Cincinnati-based agent Kimberly Kitchens.

Has there ever been a better time to push for a total overhaul of the Federal tax system?

I think not.

The Monday SHTF Thread

Water is the most important resource for survival. At least 60% of the adult body is made of it and every living cell in the body needs it to keep functioning. Water acts as a lubricant for our joints, regulates our body temperature through sweating and respiration, and helps to flush waste.

The maximum time an individual can go without water is maybe a week — an estimate that would certainly be shorter in difficult conditions, like the normal summer heat in the south. Having water, and having the ability to purify water is paramount to your preparations.

You’ve probably heard about the “LifeStraw” as a way to be able to use contaminated water as a source of drinking water. This Lifestraw “non-review” is by IamZeke at Survivalist Boards should open some eyes:

LifeStraw was created with a specific purpose and that was to filter drinking water to remove biological pathogens in remote rural 3rd world locations. For its original intent it is a decent product. But most of us have access to numerous product options and most of us live in 1st world locations where found ground water is typically contaminated with organic toxins. Pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, petrochemicals, industrial runoff, and post-consumer runoff are all easily found in open ground water around and downstream of modern civilization. Even rurally you can can find a lot of this stuff. The LifeStraw does absolutely nothing to mitigate this issue. Whereas biological threats are a hit and miss these toxins are everywhere. LifeStraw by physical design does not connect to other products, so any attempt to add toxin removal with be a lash-up DIY affair of dubious effectiveness.

Furthermore, the LifeStraw lifespan is highly dependent on the purity of the water. Sediment rapidly shortens its lifespan and it has no method to backflush it effectively. The Sawyer line has a much longer lifespan and recognizes the need to backflush. It is purpose built to enable that necessary function. That brand is also built to connect to other devices which gives you the option to filter toxins. The Sawyer Mini model is now costing barely more than the LifeStraw.

Of course, some of you like the portability and “completeness” of a straw system. Fact is that LifeStraw is in the minority when it comes to straw systems in regards to toxin control. You will need to do your research on price and confidence, but you can get multi-stage straw systems that filter both biological threats and toxins from these companies: Aquamira; H2O Survival Straw, NDUR, Aquagear, Diercon, and Seychelles. I’m personally a fan of the Seychelles because I like their upfront nature about their testing and their variety of straw options, but any of these brands offers toxin removal that LifeStraw does not even make an attempt at.

So, buy the LifeStraw, or do some research like IamZeke.

Nice work, dude.

Second, is a pdf that I received from a fellow Mississippian. How do you use pool shock to make normal household bleach, and then purify water? This explains the process pretty well

A credit to the father for showing tremendous restraint. The pervert should have died from lead poisoning on the spot.

Holder announces task force to take on workplace violence

holderThe LA Times is reporting that Eric Holder has formed a new task force to “combat an “escalating danger” from “homegrown” terrorists within the United States.”

“Horrific terror incidents like the tragic shootings at Fort Hood and last year’s Boston Marathon bombing demonstrate the danger we face from these homegrown threats,”

Holder’s task force, according to the Times, “is aimed at U.S. citizens or visitors radicalized via the Internet.”

—-

I’m sure the families of Ft Hood will be happy to know their loved ones were lost as an act of terror, and not “workplace violence.”

Irony aside, this announcement unsettles me on many levels.  Does it sound like Holder is about to move against Obama’s political enemies?

He would like nothing better.

R.I.P. Johnny Winter~~Texas Blues Legend

John

I started hearing rumors on the interwebs last night that Johnny Winter had died, but couldn’t find any confirmation until this morning.

At the age of 70, he was still playing and rocking in a world tour. He will be missed and mourned by many.

I first became aware of Johnny and his younger brother Edgar when I was fifteen years old in the summer of 1966. I was on a long summer driving vacation with my parents and middle brother. We had driven down to S.La. to visit relatives in and around Baton Rouge and NOLA. While my parents went into Pat O’Brien’s we sat on the curb outside Preservation Hall listening to those great old jazz musicians while munching corn on the cob.

We then drove across to the Mississippi coast, staying in Gulfport for a few days and visiting the surrounding area, drove up through Starkville and Hattiesburg, then made it to Vicksburg and visited the park and war memorial.

From there we drove down to Houston to visit with my oldest brother, who was on a full ride at UofH as a QB. He was happy to be with us all again in his environment and invited us all to join him at his favorite night club, the Act III, that night to see this amazing band with two albino brothers.

Being under age, my parents had to do some fast and smooth talking to get my brother and I inside. Once inside we had a big table to accommodate us and many of my big bruh’s friends who came by.

I had never been inside a night club/bar before and was quite wide-eyed, observing how every one behaved and interacted, but mostly I couldn’t take my eyes off of the two brothers playing their hearts out.

To this day I can still visualize that night and Johnny wailing on his guitar. I was not surprised with his becoming famous just a few years later.

Day by day, the iconic musicians of my youth are leaving us.

Be at peace, Johnny, you will always be remembered.

Nuke’s Eighth Annual Bloggapalooza

Eight years ago, on the night of the MLB All-Star Game, Nuke’s News and Views was launched amid the hoopla and excitement that has accompanied the beginning of any great episode in modern history.

_eightfingers.jpgIt was decided that this blog would be unlike any other blog in the interwebs: a place where rational minds could meet to discuss the weighty issues of the day, politics, religion, poetry, and college football.

Have we succeeded?  The simple fact that the lights are still on and we are still here speaks volumes.  Just take a look at the “Reciprocated links” in the right-hand sidebar.  I’ve marked those blogs which are still active with an (a).  Many good blogs have fallen by the wayside.  They got tired, moved on, had major life changes that required that they no longer devote time to the website, passed away, or just said forget about it — I’m not making any difference anyway; and closed up shop.

So, please allow me a moment of self-congratulatory indulgence:  we’re still talking about the issues of the day, politics, religion, and college football.  But, we haven’t been without our share of changes.  Our resident poets, Murder of Ravens and Beto Ochoa have moved on.  And the Blog Artiste, Vimto, still drops by occasionally, but hasn’t had the opportunity to continue with his fine work as a political cartoonist.  I don’t know if I told y’all, but a few Christmases ago, Vimto sent me several of his original cartoon pieces that currently occupy a prominent spot on my office wall.  I hope I have not failed to thank you sufficiently for these treasured pieces, old friend.  And, our resident legal beagle, Theobromophile, has no doubt finished her Law School studies, and is waist deep in the pre-partnership legal jungle of generating billable hours.  She stopped by to comment recently, and it was certainly a pleasant surprise.  Good luck to you, Theo.  All the best.

The Swampess, and Robert D. are still hanging in there.  Nobody does a Global Warming putdown better than Robert D.  I mean it:  Nobody.   And Swampwoman, well what can I say.  I think she’s the finest writer we’ve ever had at Nuke’s.  You know, some people just have a way of putting on paper, digitally or otherwise, exactly what they are thinking, in a way that is entertaining, informative, succinct, and Southern.  That describes Swampwoman to a T.  I thank y’all for all your contributions these last 8 years at Nuke’s Popcorn Stand.

And my oldest of Blog Amigos, no2liberals, has hung with me for the entire Octo-Adventure.  Thanks, Bud.  You’re the best.  I hope OU and MSU meet in the 2015 Championship game.  Since that game will be held at AT&T in Arlington, you can bet we will both be there.  In fact, I plan on crashing over at his crib for Championship Weekend.

Most of all, thanks to our readers.  Without you, it would get mighty lonesome.

Here’s to the next 8.

NCAA Football Countdown: 55 Days

In these last few weeks before football season begins, generally speaking, any news about players or teams is bad news.

However, for OU fans this summer there have been two consecutive weeks of good news, along with one bit of news that I find unsettling while other OU fans are well pleased.

The first bit of good news came on 26 Jun, with the announcement that the OU Board of Regents had approved a three stage renovation of the football stadium. Already referred to as the “Palace on the Prairie,” the planned renovations are both attractive and fan friendly, with fan space, concessions and restrooms being increased dramatically, along with a “bowl” shape.

Here is a current image of Owen Field.
owen field

Here is the video introducing the planned renovations.

Needless to say, OU fans are very excited about the planned renovations, as are current players and recruits.

Then, five days later on 1 Jul, OU introduced new alternate uniforms for the 2014 season. ClICK HERE for a video that explains what went into the design of the NIKE uniforms.

Fan reaction to the alternate uniforms has been mixed, including me. Why mess with perfection? However after seeing the players reaction, and those of recruits, I have become much more accepting of the changes. CLICK HERE for the players reaction.

It was two weeks of great news and the next event to look forward to before summer training camp was the BIG XII Conference Media Days.

That was not to be the case. On Thursday, 3 July, it was officially announced that a young man by the name of Dorial Green-Beckham would be enrolling in OU and joining the OU football team. Fan reaction to this news was mixed and very emotional for many. DGB, as he is known, is an incredible football talent, he was rated the #1 high school recruit in the nation in 2012 and was heavily recruited by OU. DGB ultimately decided to sign with Missouri and remain in his home state. In his nineteen months at UM, he was arrested two times for marijuana possession and investigated for trespassing and assaulting a young woman. The young lady did not press charges. UM dismissed him from the university in April.

Personally, I am opposed to OU allowing this young man to become a part of the football program for fear his criminality won’t end and will have a deleterious effect on the team.
However, I have the utmost confidence in Coach Stoops and his staff and will defer to their judgment that he can become a better person with a new start.

Thad Cochran’s campaign has strongly denied any involvement in the vote-buying scheme alleged yesterday in an article by blogger Charles Johnson.  I was chatting with some friends earlier about this subject, and advised them to take the 48-hour rule on this story, as the blogger in question has a pattern of making claims in an article, only to have to walk them back later.  I suspect there will be some more walking back on this article as well.

Mr. Johnson’s reporting has had an effect.  Perhaps that is the point.    A lot of things can and will happen before November.  Something that I find very interesting has been confirmed by  a recent Chism Poll.   There are a great deal of hard feelings among McDaniel supporters:

“When we asked McDaniel supporters which candidate they would support in the general election, 21% said they would vote for Democrat Travis Childers and another 16% said they would probably not vote at all.

Only 22% of McDaniel’s supporters were committed to vote for Cochran in November.”  (emphasis mine)

The pollster, Brad Chism is a supporter of Democrat Travis Childers.

According to Y’all Politics, Chism is hosting a fundraiserr for Childers in Jackson tonight.

In a poll released last Friday by Rasmussen, Cochran is up 42-34.
