“The Obama administration has lost or destroyed e-mails for more than 20 witnesses, and in each case, the loss wasn’t disclosed to the National Archives or Congress for months or years, in violation of federal law,” House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA).

digital evidenceEvidence must be collected and preserved to get any type of court to review whether laws have been broken. That job is impossible when the ones being investigated are the ones in power.  Lies, misdirection, stonewalling,  footdragging, and destruction of evidence:  We live in dark, evil, corrupt, lawless times.  It will get worse before it gets better.

I recall that a young Hillary Clinton was one of many Democrats crying bloody murder over 18 minutes of “lost” tape in the Watergate scandal, before she was fired by Jerry Zeifman. Why was she fired? In Zeifman’s own words:

“Because she was a liar.” … “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality,”

P.J. O’Rourke once said, “My Grandmother wouldn’t even speak the word ‘Democrat’ if there were children in the room, she’d say ‘bastards’ instead.”

Indeed.

Crash Much? 13 more IRS computers have crashed. Doh!

Let’s say our country had no current tax system and was in the process of designing a federal tax system, and there were two competing proposals on the table.  The voters had to choose between what we have on the books right now, with the mish-mash of 75,000 pages, stocked full of loopholes, contradictory language, and a thoroughly corrupt and politically intimidating tax enforcement agency, or a 125 page simple tax system that taxed consumption.  Which do you think the people would choose?  I mean, is there any doubt?  Whatsoever?

IRSFrom the DC:

IRS Deputy Associate Chief Counsel Thomas Kane said in transcribed congressional testimony that more IRS officials experienced computer crashes, bringing the total number of crash victims to “less than 20,” and also said that the agency does not know if the lost emails are still backed up somewhere.

The new round of computer crash victims includes David Fish, who routinely corresponded with Lois Lerner, as well as Lerner subordinate Andy Megosh, Lerner’s technical adviser Justin Lowe, and Cincinnati-based agent Kimberly Kitchens.

Has there ever been a better time to push for a total overhaul of the Federal tax system?

I think not.

Barack Obama’s SOTU Reality TV Show

A guest post by Rodney Lee Conover

Tuesday night millions of Americans witnessed an unprecedented surge in the proliferation of Reality Television. For the first time in history, the exact same Reality TV show was broadcast on every network – ABC, NBC, CBS & FOX – at the same exact time. In addition, it was also featured on CNN, MSNBC, FOX News and on any number of other cable outlets!

The name of this show was; “President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address.”

Hi. I’m Rodney Lee Conover and for those of you who missed it – here’s my unabashed review.

Full Disclosure: I’m running for Congress in California’s 8th District.

I watched President Obama deliver the annual State of the Union address and as we’ve come to expect, the President, instead of a solemn opportunity to take a measure of where we are as a nation and as a people, delivered another made-for-TV entertainment event. An Executive Branch Reality Show and like most Reality television – completely contrived..

Obama_speech_2

The President promised yet again to pivot to the economy, put our people back to work – vowing to rebuild the trust of the People in the government’s ability to provide solutions for all. But this is empty regardless of how many times or how eloquently he repeats them. Anyone with a modicum of awareness of real Reality just shakes their head while he’s explaining how America is now “Energy Independent” thanks to him..

.. Of course that’s because no one has to drive to work anymore – but he didn’t mention holding up the Keystone Pipeline. Must have slipped his mind.

The President congratulated the Congress for passing a budget: The first in 4 years. It was a budget he described as undoing some of last year’s severe sequester cuts (his idea) to education. But he failed to mention the disgraceful cuts to veterans benefits included in the Ryan / Murray budget disaster.

Speaking of which – John McCain has said that Republicans who opposed the budget deal lacked “intellectual integrity.” In fact, my opponent voted for that budget deal (which included those military pension cuts). I would have been opposed to it. In fact, I’ll make a promise to you right now. I will never vote to balance spending on the backs of our military.   Never.

Our veterans have earned not only their pension benefits, but also deserve the very best medical care possible. Further, they should be able to go to VA Clinics and Hospitals and speak freely about their needs without having to worry that some slip of the tongue will cause them to be denied any liberties or be deprived of their 2nd Amendment rights.

The backlog of veterans waiting to be treated is inexcusable, and deserves the attention of our political leaders who pay lip service one moment, then cut retirement benefits the next.

There are solutions to the problems our veterans face with getting proper medical care. Those solutions are not found in the single-payer, single-provider system model that the President and the Democrats intend to bring to the rest of the country with Obamacare.

I believe that citizens should be able to choose their own healthcare, not the government. When the President promised us that if we liked our healthcare we could keep it, he knew that was not the case. Like millions of Californians, last October, I got a letter from my insurance company canceling my coverage, even though I liked it and wanted to keep it. The replacement coverage is more expensive, has a higher deductible and higher out of pocket costs. I also like my doctor of nine years, but he’s not compliant with the Affordable Care Act.

obamacareSo, Obamacare costs more and covers less. And it certainly hasn’t covered the 40 million uninsured that the President promised. We conservatives saw this coming, and fought a long hard fight to keep it from becoming law. But, elections have consequences, and without one single Republican vote, Obamacare became law.

The final chance that we had to stop this train wreck happened last Fall when House Conservatives led a charge to defund Obamacare. In the end, establishment Republicans including my opponent voted to fully fund Obamacare and allow it to go forward.

The President had very little to say about this signature achievement, and understandably so. A botched roll-out effort, a failed website, billions of dollars wasted, and still millions of Americans without coverage, or unsure if they even have coverage, gives little room for Mr. Obama to boast of the program’s success.

It’s harder to understand why Establishment Republicans caved. The House controls the pursestrings and originates all spending bills. The Republicans own the majority in the House. Why would they give in? The framers of the Constitution gave the House under Article One the power and the duty to stop onerous legislation which was passed over the will of the people.

Establishment Republicans don’t like change and they feel very threatened by anyone who is new to The Club. Just look at the way they have sabotaged Ted Cruz, and ridiculed Rand Paul. These are the same Establishment Republicans who vehemently opposed Ronald Reagan in 1980, but who had done a complete turnaround by 1984.

fairtaxThe President may find an ally in these Establishment Republicans on issues like immigration reform, tax reform, and increased use of Executive Orders. I want to abolish the IRS – the most intrusive, coercive, and corrosive Federal agency ever. I would replace the tax code with The Fair Tax. Every American will become a voluntary taxpayer paying taxes when they choose and as much as they choose, by how they choose to spend their money. What could be more conservative than that?

I will not vote for a pathway to citizenship for anyone in the country illegally as long as our borders are not secure, and there are millions and millions of American citizens who can’t find work, and millions more who have simply given up trying to find a job.

And, I will continue to work to repeal and replace Obamacare with a system that champions firstclass medical care and freemarket principles that allows people to choose their doctors, choose their coverage, and make informed choices on private, competitive health insurance coverage.

rodneyleeconover  I’m Rodney Lee Conover. May God Bless you, and May God Bless the Great California Republic.

I need your help and support.   I’ll do all the work – it’s a fair deal: Take it.

Mississippi Tea Party highlights

9-12-09 (Nuke’s News)

From the Mississippi State Capitol,  Seedubya reports a turnout of  “several hundred” Mississippians on an overcast and occasionally rainy Saturday in Jackson.

Seedubya says he was somewhat “underwhelmed”  by the speakers, which included a couple of politicians trying to take advantage of the general undercurrent of discontent, and a few preachers who were beating the drum for the social causes – always a popular issue in my home state.

But the day’s highlights were provided by a series of skits presented by a group of high school students from Tupelo.   The skits all had a patriotic, “God and Country” theme, and were well-received by the crowd.

Frankly, I’m not surprised by that – the kids being from Tupelo, I mean.  Tupelo’s schools could serve as an example for school districts across the state.  Community support, parental involvement, and high expectations are the hallmarks of this fine school system.

But I digress.

Here are a few of the early photos from the Tea Party.  Seedubya says, “more to come.”

update:
Great signage at other blogs covering the DC March. I love this one…. “Im not with the party of No. I’m with the party of Hell No!”

Marco Rubio: The Republican wing of the Republican Party

NRO’s David Freddoso interviews Florida’s Marco Rubio, who is set to challenge Charlie Crist for the US Senate.  Here is an excerpt:

FREDDOSO: Give me an example of that, showing a contrast between yourself and Governor Crist.

RUBIO: Quite frankly, you could say it’s a contrast between myself and the direction of the national Republican movement at this moment in our history, by and large, especially here in Washington, D.C. One example is term limits — we should be the party of term limits. We should be the party that says it’s not natural for any human being to serve more than half his adult life in the U.S. Congress.

We should be the party of the balanced-budget amendment — of the notion that we should not spend money we do not have. We should admit once and for all that Republicans are just as guilty as Democrats . . . in spending money we don’t have.

We should be the party of tax reform. We’re constantly talking about tax cuts and their importance, but tax reform is even better. Change our system of taxation, whether it’s a Fair Tax or a Flat Tax. Boldly propose changes to our tax system so that once again we have a country where we’re not encouraging companies to shift jobs overseas — where the tax implications of creating jobs in America are not negative, the tax implications of building things in America aren’t negative.

Rubio is a fine example of the depth of the conservative bench at the state level.  He combines fiscal conservatism with traditional conservative values in a way that makes him a very compelling candidate.  To borrow a phrase that was said back in 2004, Rubio represents the Republican wing of the Republican Party.

Even though the establishment Republicans are backing a popular governor in Charlie Crist, or maybe even because of their endorsement, my gut tells me that this will be a much closer race than the establishment folks are counting on.

Freddoso’s interview is excellent.  Read it all!

UBS to close accounts

The Patriot Act could claim thousands of scalps in the coming weeks as Swiss banking giant UBS has announced that it will close some 19,000 accounts of their American clientele. From the NYT

In a step that would have once been unthinkable in the rarefied world of Swiss banking, UBS will shut about 19,000 accounts that prosecutors suspect have gone undeclared to the Internal Revenue Service.

UBS will transfer the assets to other banks or other divisions within UBS, or will mail checks directly to the account holders, creating paper trails for federal prosecutors who are examining whether UBS clients used such accounts to evade taxes.

The clients now face stark choices: they can cash their checks, and thereby alert the authorities to any potential wrongdoing, or not cash them, effectively losing their money.

Or they can transfer the money to new banks, a procedure which, in the case of foreign banks, requires depositors of more than $10,000 to report the new account to the Treasury Department.

“You can either take that check and throw it in the woods, or deposit it somewhere and get busted,” said a UBS client, who asked not to be named because of the investigations into UBS and its clients. “There’s nowhere to hide.” …

But because prosecutors claim that some UBS clients failed to make adequate disclosures in the past or lied on their tax returns about holding offshore accounts, the authorities may view the new disclosures as criminal evidence, not just of tax evasion but also of money laundering, a more serious offense.

Indeed. Money Laundering is very, very serious.

It seems like the law that was designed to starve islamic terrorists of the money to finance their operations will be used to sock it to wealthy Americans who have evaded income taxes. Although the list of names that will surface will be interesting to see, the actions by UBS reveal the need for junking the tax code and replacing it with the Fair Tax.
