Cronyism Kills

Remember 2009?

The Obama regime promised a miracle economic recovery if only Congress would pass their mammoth economic stimulus bill.  Shovel-ready jobs.  Green, renewable energy.  Smart Policies.  Yada, yada, yada.

ebola=nurseThis occurred to me as I saw some of the new Democrat ads blaming the GOP for Ebola.  “Cuts Kill,” or something.

Some $80 BILLION in the stimulus package was devoted to green energy, much of which was directed to campaign donors and other friends of the regime.

In short order, many of those same companies began to fail.  As Ashe Schow notes:

So far, 34 companies that were offered federal support from taxpayers are faltering — either having gone bankrupt or laying off workers or heading for bankruptcy.

If you’re keeping score:  almost $8 Billion of the 2009 Obama stimulus bill went to campaign friendly green energy companies which are either failing, or in bankruptcy.

That’s enough to fund the CDC entirely for 15 months.

Cut’s Kill, my ass.

Olympic Skiers And The Politics Of “Gore-Bull” Warming

It seems one hundred and five of the winter Olympians have signed a petition demanding climate action, due to the warm climate and melting snow in the Palm Tree lined city of Sochi, Russia.

Anthony Watts has the full story at Watts Up With That.

After reading Mr. Watts article and reviewed all his data, I decided to delve deeper into what is really going on with the weather in Sochi.  I don’t watch the Olympics precisely because they became so politicized and don’t care for winter sports anyway.  Snow and ice are the bane of my existence.

It didn’t take me long to discover what is actually causing so many snow skiers to fall down.  It isn’t “Gore-Bull” warming and there is video proof of what is causing this phenomenon.

ECO-TERRORISM? Gunman who took hostages at Discovery Channel inspired by Al Gore. “Lee appears to have posted environmental and population-control demands online, saying humans are ruining the planet and that Discovery should develop programs to sound the alarm. . . . I couldn’t help but be reminded of this interview with the former Vice-President …

Grist: There’s a lot of debate right now over the best way to communicate about global warming and get people motivated. Do you scare people or give them hope? What’s the right mix?

Gore: I think the answer to that depends on where your audience’s head is. In the United States of America, unfortunately we still live in a bubble of unreality. And the Category 5 denial is an enormous obstacle to any discussion of solutions. Nobody is interested in solutions if they don’t think there’s a problem. Given that starting point, I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are, and how hopeful it is that we are going to solve this crisis.  (my emphasis)

Apparently, the late Mr. James Jay Lee missed this interview. “Qver-representation of factual presentations,” indeed.

Selling Indulgences, 21st Century Style

excerpt:

In the case of the environment, we now have a class of con men similar to the priestly class in the 1400′s responsible for selling indulgences, forgiveness, and exemptions from penitence. Instead of the religious hucksterism of the “pardoners” as Chaucer wrote, we now have ATM style environmental conscience cleansing.

ATM-style environmental conscience cleansing!

The science is settled, and we really really mean it

A team of British climate researchers has issued a study which makes the claim that the evidence for man-made global warming was ‘stronger than ever’.

I don’t know about you, but this time, I’m really, really convinced. Not.

Hopefully, British authorities will post a suicide watch for all of the true believers.

Global warming suicide pact

from the Daily Mail

Argentines Francisco Lotero, 56, and Miriam Coletti, 23, shot their children before killing themselves after making an apparent suicide pact over fears about global warming.

Their son Francisco, two, died instantly after being hit in the back.

But their unnamed daughter cheated death after the bullet from her dad’s handgun missed her vital organs.

Paramedics rushed her to hospital covered in blood when police alerted by worried neighbours discovered the massacre three days later.

I blame Al Gore.

I didn’t realize it was a car commercial until the very end. by that time, I was so appalled that I was ready to puke.

Or, maybe it was just a typo.  “2350” and “2035” are separated by just a keystroke.  Not much of a difference, unless you’re discussing dates, then the difference is staggering.

The UN panel on climate change warning that Himalayan glaciers could melt to a fifth of current levels by 2035 is wildly inaccurate, an academic says.

J Graham Cogley, a professor at Ontario Trent University, says he believes the UN authors got the date from an earlier report wrong by more than 300 years.

He is astonished they “misread 2350 as 2035”. The authors deny the claims.

Leading glaciologists say the report has caused confusion and “a catalogue of errors in Himalayan glaciology”.

The science is settled?

hmm. I guess the billion folks who depend on the Himalayan glaciers for drinking water have a little bit longer to work this problem out than Al thought.

Al Gore: at his hyperbolic best

Al Gore was at his hyperbolic best in his speech to the Copenhagen climate change summit when he made this statement,

“These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.

Dr. Maslowski not only didn’t say that, he was unable to explain how Gore came to those conclusions. When confronted, Gore’s office said, well, it was a “ballpark figure.”

Translation: Gore just made it up.

Great. Next thing you’ll tell us is that Obama really can’t stop the seas from rising.

Is there any doubt that if the global warmists had succeeded in getting the US Senate to approve the Kyoto treaties some 10 years ago, that the decline in global temperatures over the last few years would not have been hidden by the East Anglia CRU?

Is there any doubt at all?

Global warming means big business for Copenhagen

Hopenchange means big business for Copenhagen. Especially in the sex business.

City leaders report that business is brisk in the sex trade, and that evenings mean big bucks, as many global warmers, politicians and civil servants are reported to have availed themselves of the city’s prostitutes.

““We’ve been extremely busy. Politicians also need to relax after a long day,” says ‘Miss Dina’, herself a prostitute.”

Perhaps this is the kind of capitalism that the socialists approve of. Or, maybe after screwing over the public through the cap and trade tax plan, the Goremons need some time to unwind.

Emissions trading, indeed.

Climate change given same legal status as religion

How about that? The UK Telegraph is reporting a court decision described as “landmark.” Actually, it is just recognizing the obvious: The Goremons, gaiaists, and assorted fruits and nuts on the Left consider their support for Global Warming as a matter of faith. The courts follow suit …

Mr Justice Michael Burton said that “a belief in man-made climate change … is capable, if genuinely held, of being a philosophical belief for the purpose of the 2003 Religion and Belief Regulations”.

The ruling could open the door for employees to sue their companies for failing to account for their green lifestyles, such as providing recycling facilities or offering low-carbon travel.

Wonderful. This new religion even throws out a revenue stream for trial lawyers.

Frankly, I think it’s time to address the need for the Wall of Separation between government and this new religion. They are uncomfortably cozy for most of us. (h/t Pielke)

A Fate Worse Than Global Warming

Writing at The Huffington Post, John F. Kerry inadvertently reminds us of a fate worse than global warming…. that would have been a Kerry victory in 2004.

To make his case for apocalyptic global warming, Mr. Kerry implores his readers, “don’t take my word for it.”

Frankly, that’s not a problem for me.  Consider It has been some 1700 days since Kerry promised full disclosure of his military record by signing Form 180.   For those who took John Kerry’s word in this particular instance, his window of opportunity for restoring his personal credibility has long since closed.

Kerry’s op-ed recycles all of the tired arguments, scare tactics, and hyperbolic touchstones that we have come to expect.  So, it comes as no surprise to read his final comment …

“The decisions we make in coming months will determine whether we meet this challenge head-on and prevail or if we are to suffer the worst consequences of a warming planet.

This time we have to connect the dots before we face catastrophe.”

Yeah.  Right.

Gore ducks climate debate (again)

from WSJ

Former Vice President Al Gore repeated his message that climate change is a planetary emergency at the WSJ’s Eco:nomics conference in California. The Nobel-prize winner declined to take any questions from reporters, but he did receive a couple of challenges from attendees, including Bjorn Lomborg. But don’t expect Mr. Gore to debate the merits of how best to tackle climate change anytime soon.

Mr. Gore stuck to his prepared script about the urgency of taking action to curb global greenhouse-gas emissions, down to well-worn phrases he trots out at conferences across the country: America is at “a political tipping point” on climate change, and even if Washington has failed to address the energy challenge in the last 35 years, “political will is a renewable resource.”

But he was challenged by Mr. Lomborg, the Danish skeptical environmentalist who thinks the world would be better off spending more money on health and education issues than curbing carbon emissions.

“I don’t mean to corner you, or maybe I do mean to corner you, but would you be willing to have a debate with me on that point?” asked the polo-shirt wearing Dane.

“I want to be polite to you,” Mr. Gore responded. But, no. “The scientific community has gone through this chapter and verse. We have long since passed the time when we should pretend this is a ‘on the one hand, on the other hand’ issue,” he said. “It’s not a matter of theory or conjecture, for goodness sake,” he added.

Obama’s Own Words:We Will Bankrupt New Coal Plants!

If the good folks in the coal producing states haven’t voted yet, they definitely need this information.
B-HO’s words, recorded in January, are just now being made known, and it’s truly a shame. This is the type of rhetoric that many of us were already certain of, that he will kill jobs in this country, stifle advances in technology, and make our cost of living soar, at a time when energy costs are a major factor in our current economy.
It truly baffles me, that someone who is running for POTUS, could be so determined to undermine the very foundations of our country, and have mindless automatons not only supporting him, but fainting and crying at the sound of his voice.
Did you know that the U.S. has the largest coal reserve in the world? In fact, the U.S. is known as the Saudi Arabia of coal.
By one estimate, if coal were converted by the GTL processes into liquid fuel, the U.S. would have eight hundred and eleven years of domestic fuel. Here is another view of the energy picture of the U.S.

That B-HO is already on record in his disdain for the limits placed on government by the Constitution, and “bitter and clinging” citizens, he is now on record for being opposed to creating jobs, heating and lighting our homes, while paying homage to the new religion of Gormonism. Making the cost of living, and doing business, a hostage to the silly notion that we mere mortals can alter the climate of this planet, is the epitome of arrogance. As if having to peer into his nostrils, from his constant posing, isn’t enough.
The Earth can take care of itself, it has done so for billions of years. While we should revere our beautiful planet, be thankful for the wonderful resources God has given us, we should also use all those resources God has given us.
ALL OF THEM!

One last thing, many scientists have predicted that the Earth has an expiration date, in approximately two hundred thirty-five million years from now. Staying warm and fed, until the party ends, isn’t an unreasonable approach.

Primo…Secundo…Tertio! Lord Monckton Exposes Advocates of Global Warming Dishonesty!

Most readers here are familiar with Lord Monckton’s stance on the matter of global warming, or anthropogenic climate change. His chastisement of those who are promoting the many myths and deceits of earth’s cyclical patterns is approaching legendary status, especially in the gathering of climate change opportunists in Bali, and his exposure of the faulty methods of the UN’s IPCC reports in 2001 and 2007.
Lord Monckton recently issued a report to the American Physical Society, Climate Sensitivity Reconsidered, and if you will notice, at the top of the report, is a red lettered disclaimer from the APS about Lord Monckton’s report, with no attribution as to whom authorized the disclaimer.
Not one to permit an arrogant statement to go unanswered, after complying with all procedures and protocols for publication, the Viscount Monckton of Brenchley responded with an email to the President of the APS. I can only hope to provide a future update to this post, with the reply from the APS leadership.

Arthur Bienenstock, Esq., Ph.D.,
President, American Physical Society,
Wallenberg Hall, 450 Serra Mall, Bldg 160,
Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA 94305.

By email to artieb@slac.stanford.edu

Dear Dr. Bienenstock,

Physics and Society

The editors of Physics and Society, a newsletter of the American
Physical Society, invited me to submit a paper for their July 2008
edition explaining why I considered that the warming that might be
expected from anthropogenic enrichment of the atmosphere with carbon
dioxide might be significantly less than the IPCC imagines.

I very much appreciated this courteous offer, and submitted a paper. The
commissioning editor referred it to his colleague, who subjected it to a
thorough and competent scientific review. I was delighted to accede to
all of the reviewer’s requests for revision (see the attached
reconciliation sheet). Most revisions were intended to clarify for
physicists who were not climatologists the method by which the IPCC
evaluates climate sensitivity – a method which the IPCC does not itself
clearly or fully explain. The paper was duly published, immediately
after a paper by other authors setting out the IPCC’s viewpoint. Some
days later, however, without my knowledge or consent, the following
appeared, in red, above the text of my paper as published on the website
of Physics and Society:

“The following article has not undergone any scientific peer review. Its
conclusions are in disagreement with the overwhelming opinion of the
world scientific community. The Council of the American Physical Society
disagrees with this article’s conclusions.”

This seems discourteous. I had been invited to submit the paper; I had
submitted it; an eminent Professor of Physics had then scientifically
reviewed it in meticulous detail; I had revised it at all points
requested, and in the manner requested; the editors had accepted and
published the reviewed and revised draft (some 3000 words longer than
the original) and I had expended considerable labor, without having been
offered or having requested any honorarium.

Please either remove the offending red-flag text at once or let me have
the name and qualifications of the member of the Council or advisor to
it who considered my paper before the Council ordered the offending text
to be posted above my paper; a copy of this rapporteur’s findings and
ratio decidendi; the date of the Council meeting at which the findings
were presented; a copy of the minutes of the discussion; and a copy of
the text of the Council’s decision, together with the names of those
present at the meeting. If the Council has not scientifically evaluated
or formally considered my paper, may I ask with what credible scientific
justification, and on whose authority, the offending text asserts primo,
that the paper had not been scientifically reviewed when it had;
secundo, that its conclusions disagree with what is said (on no
evidence) to be the “overwhelming opinion of the world scientific
community”; and, tertio, that “The Council of the American Physical
Society disagrees with this article’s conclusions”? Which of my
conclusions does the Council disagree with, and on what scientific
grounds (if any)?

Having regard to the circumstances, surely the Council owes me an
apology?

Yours truly,
THE VISCOUNT MONCKTON OF BRENCHLEY

Source.
Why would the APS add such a disclaimer, knowing the nature of the Viscount, as one who will not back down? Are they perhaps attempting to force an issue where they can discredit or minimize the Viscount’s status? Or are they required to put up such a cowardly and flimsy disclaimer, by their dark overlords from the religion of Goremonism?
Regardless, the ball has been returned, and is in the APS court. I will be watching for any foot-faults.

June 12th Is Carbon Belch Day! Show Your Support!

The good folks at GrassFire.org, have released a brief statement.

Al Gore says we are in a planetary emergency. Congress is getting ready to debate a $1.2 trillion dollar carbon tax! To do our part, Grassfire is inviting citizens to save the planet by belching as part of Carbon Belch Day on June 12. To calculate your individual carbon belch, see below.

Of course, they don’t actually mean expelling gas from your stomach(I don’t think), but by making a Global Carbon Belch. They have used existing guilt driven enviro-whacko models of reducing carbon emissions, and have identified twenty-one things that can increase your Carbon Belch.
So please, go to this link, click on each item, calculate your Carbon Belch, take the Carbon Belch Pledge, and even buy some Carbon Debit Credits, if you are a serious Belcher.
Personally, I think a good tar’far(tire fire for yankees), firing up my grill and my smoker, burning old documents in the fire place, setting my thermostat at 69 degrees, and countless runs to the store/s for items I don’t really need, might be my approach. Maybe there will be some good drag races that day.

31,000 scientists reject global warming theory

Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM)

Who: Dr. Arthur Robinson of the OISM

What: release of names in OISM “Petition Project”

When: 10 AM, Monday May 19

Where: Holeman Lounge at the National Press Club, 529 14th St., NW, Washington, DC

Why: the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM) will announce that more than 31,000 scientists have signed a petition rejecting claims of human-caused global warming. The purpose of OISM’s Petition Project is to demonstrate that the claim of “settled science” and an overwhelming “consensus” in favor of the hypothesis of human-caused global warming and consequent climate damage is wrong. No such consensus or settled science exists. As indicated by the petition text and signatory list, a very large number of American scientists reject this hypothesis.

It is evident that 31,072 Americans with university degrees in science – including 9,021 PhDs, are not “a few.” Moreover, from the clear and strong petition statement that they have signed, it is evident that these 31,072 American scientists are not “skeptics.”

Beetlemania

First it was cow farts, then it was moose belches. And now, it is … drumroll, please …
beetles. No, not the Lennon/McCartney variety.

An outbreak of mountain pine beetles in British Columbia is doing more than destroying millions of acres of lodgepole pines: By 2020, the beetles will have done enough damage that the forest is expected to release more carbon dioxide than it absorbs, according to research published in the journal Nature this week. Bark beetles also have killed swaths of pines in the western United States, including about 2,300 square miles of trees in Colorado.

The study, led by Werner Kurz of the Canadian Forest Service, estimates that over 21 years trees killed by the beetle outbreak could release 990 megatons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere — roughly equivalent to five years of emissions from Canada’s transportation sector. source

Nuke the North Pole?

Phil Chapman is a geophysicist and astronautical engineer who lives in San Francisco. He was the first Australian to become a NASA astronaut. He is also part of the “tiny minority” of flat-earth, knuckledragging, mouthbreathing deniers of The World According to Gorp.

Phil’s piece in The Australian looks at the lack of recent sunspot activity, and draws a plausible correlation to global cooling, resulting in a coming ice age. Great read. Hope it’s not too scary for the chicken littles.

THE scariest photo I have seen on the internet is http://www.spaceweather.com, where you will find a real-time image of the sun from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, located in deep space at the equilibrium point between solar and terrestrial gravity.

What is scary about the picture is that there is only one tiny sunspot.

Disconcerting as it may be to true believers in global warming, the average temperature on Earth has remained steady or slowly declined during the past decade, despite the continued increase in the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide, and now the global temperature is falling precipitously.

All four agencies that track Earth’s temperature (the Hadley Climate Research Unit in Britain, the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, the Christy group at the University of Alabama, and Remote Sensing Systems Inc in California) report that it cooled by about 0.7C in 2007. This is the fastest temperature change in the instrumental record and it puts us back where we were in 1930. If the temperature does not soon recover, we will have to conclude that global warming is over.

There is also plenty of anecdotal evidence that 2007 was exceptionally cold. It snowed in Baghdad for the first time in centuries, the winter in China was simply terrible and the extent of Antarctic sea ice in the austral winter was the greatest on record since James Cook discovered the place in 1770.

It is generally not possible to draw conclusions about climatic trends from events in a single year, so I would normally dismiss this cold snap as transient, pending what happens in the next few years.

This is where SOHO comes in. The sunspot number follows a cycle of somewhat variable length, averaging 11 years. The most recent minimum was in March last year. The new cycle, No.24, was supposed to start soon after that, with a gradual build-up in sunspot numbers.

It didn’t happen. The first sunspot appeared in January this year and lasted only two days. A tiny spot appeared last Monday but vanished within 24 hours. Another little spot appeared this Monday. Pray that there will be many more, and soon.

The reason this matters is that there is a close correlation between variations in the sunspot cycle and Earth’s climate. The previous time a cycle was delayed like this was in the Dalton Minimum, an especially cold period that lasted several decades from 1790.

Northern winters became ferocious: in particular, the rout of Napoleon’s Grand Army during the retreat from Moscow in 1812 was at least partly due to the lack of sunspots.

That the rapid temperature decline in 2007 coincided with the failure of cycle No.24 to begin on schedule is not proof of a causal connection but it is cause for concern.

It is time to put aside the global warming dogma, at least to begin contingency planning about what to do if we are moving into another little ice age, similar to the one that lasted from 1100 to 1850.
