Tastes like chicken?

Bosintang. Ever heard of it?

Well, it’s Dog Soup. Big item in Korea. Now, I’m not talking about the North Koreans, living on a starvation diet in Li’l Kim’s workers paradise. No, this is prosperous South Korea. Now get this….

The Seoul city government is seeking to classify man’s best friend as livestock in order to set food safety standards for South Korean lovers of dogmeat, officials say.

Somewhere between two and four million dogs are estimated to be consumed in South Korea every year, but the slaughtering and processing is carried out in dirty environments and poses a risks to diners’ health, they said.

Since dogs are not currently classed as livestock there are no hygiene regulations on their slaughter, officials said.   source

Now that your appetitites are whetted, here’s a nice recipe for bosintang

You will need:
dogmeat-photos.jpg100g of boiled dog meat, 500g of gravy, 20g of green onion, 10g of a leek, 10g of perilla leaves, 100g of taro stalk soaked in water. And, for the sauce, 8g of salt, 2g of mashed garlic, 3g of perilla, 2g of red pepper, 2g of mashed ginger, a little amount of pepper.

After boiling the dog meat with gravy and stalk of taro for some time, boil again after putting vegetables and other ingredients into it. Before eating, sprinkle pepper on it and put into an earthen bowl. The stalk of taro is to be kept in cold water one or two days to get rid of its smell and taste.

Yum, Yum…………Not.

I can’t help it. I think I would have to be near death from starvation before I would eat a dog. Call me closed-minded.

Woof woof.

N Korea`s reactor produced plutonium, not power

U.N. inspectors have verified that North Korea has shut down four more nuclear facilities beyond its sole working reactor, the chief of the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency said Wednesday.

This is welcome news. Especially in light of this report from Zee news…

Seoul, July 15: North Korea’s Yongbyon reactor was ostensibly built to generate electricity but is reportedly not connected to any power lines.

Instead, experts say, it has produced enough plutonium from its fuel rods for possibly up to a dozen nuclear weapons over its 20-year history.

The US State Department said yesterday it had been told that the reactor and other facilities at Yongbyon had been shut down, as part of a six-nation nuclear disarmament deal agreed in February.

UN nuclear inspectors and a first shipment of fuel oil, promised in return for the shutdown, arrived in the communist state earlier in the day.

Norcoms shut down reactor

From Reuters, via Breitbart…

norcoms.jpgNorth Korea has told the United States it has shut down its Yongbyon nuclear facilities, the State Department said on Saturday.

“We welcome this development and look forward to the verification and monitoring of this shutdown by the International Atomic Energy Agency team that has arrived in” North Korea, said spokesman Sean McCormack.

North Korea said last week it would consider suspending the operation of its nuclear facilities as soon as it received the first shipment of oil from South Korea under the February 13 aid-for-disarmament deal.

A South Korean tanker carrying 6,200 metric tons of fuel oil arrived early on Saturday at the port of Sonbong on North Korea’s northeastern coast, the Unification Ministry in Seoul said.

North Korea has previously “committed to declaring all its nuclear programs and disabling all its existing nuclear facilities.”

This is a very promising first step.

Gingrich the father of Anna Nicole’s Baby? — Fox News Alert

Update #4: “I told you so!”

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) – Larry Birkhead is the father of Anna Nicole Smith’s baby, according to DNA tests, and the late reality TV star’s former boyfriend emerged from a court hearing Tuesday to proclaim that his daughter would soon be home.

Update #3: “The nude photospread at the link on the first Update will prove without a doubt the fact that I am speaking truth to power.” Blogger Nuke Gingrich’s latest comments come amid charges that his “denial” of being Anna Nicole’s Baby-daddy is in fact a cynical attempt to drive up traffic at his award-winning website. “That’s just ridiculous. There is no evidence to support those charges. I cannot imagine anyone using poor Anna Nicole like that. This photospread is proof positive that I am not the father of Danielynn. Do you see me in any of those photos? I rest my case”

Update #2: “Just give me what I want, and I’ll go away.” Right Wing Blogger Nuke Gingrich has reportedly changed his mind….”I want the house in the Bahamas.”

Update: Planck’s constant has a flicker photospread of anna nicole (sans clothing) in his sidebar. [Welcome WordPress Blog of the day — thank you readers. ]

Conservative blogger Nuke Gingrich came forward today and announced that he is not the father of Anna Nicole’s baby, Danielynn Hope.

“There is absolutely no truth to the rumor”, Nuke said, “And I have no idea how the rumor started. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even know it was a rumor.”

annanic.jpgAs the looming custody battle heated up, “ Smith’s mother flew to the Bahamas on Saturday to check on the child, but the big question — the identity of the baby’s father — will be decided in a courtroom.” Source

384433538_64963497cc1.jpgNukegingrich, known for his insightful news and comment, and his dry sense of humor, wondered aloud how such a rumor could get started. “Well, after n2l got two straight Top 50 Blog of the day posts, I guess I uhmm, somebody figured they had better do something to attract the search engine bots, this being such a hot story and the cable news networks are all Nicole all the time.”

Thinking about excercise is good for you? Works for me!

N. Korea: 120 Prisoners Escape From Gulag

I ran across this translated post by blogger TigerLikesRooster from the Daily NK.
Since I don’t read or speak Korean, I am grateful that this blogger shared such a compelling story from behind the barbwired worker’s paradise of North Korea.

120 prisoners escaped en masse from ‘Camp No. 16’ at Hwasung, N. Hamkyong Province, which is a labor camp for political prisoners. This is an extraordinary event which prompted N. Korean authorities to mobilize State Security Dept., Public Security Ministry (police), and military to hunt down escapes, according to multiple sources inside N. Korea.

Inside sources from Chongjin, N. Hamkyong Province, revealed on Feb. 1 and Feb. 5, “On Dec. 20 of last year, 120 prisoners from a camp at Hwasung County escaped, leading to high alert at State Security Dept. and police. Currently, many extra checkpoints are set up in N. Hamkyong Province, checking travel pass for vehicles and travelers.”

N. Korean labor camps for prisoners are ringed with layers of obstacles, and residents in surrounding villages are drilled to their head to report any escapees and escapees face brutal punishment, all of which make escape nearly impossible. It is quite unusual to have mass escape like this.

One source said, “An acquaintance, who is a security official at provincial security dept., told me that political prisoners jumped from Hwasung camp. The escapees are said to number over 120.”

The sources said that there was significant outside help. Escapees used large steel saw provided from outside to cut (barbed) wire fences, and neutralized camp guards with clubs.

They said, “The outsiders not only provided steel saw but also escape get-away vehicle(s.) Most of escapees are those who once attempted to go to S. Korea from China, but (got caught) and repatriated to N. Korea, and sent to the camp.

According to those who were once in such a camp, N. Korea’s camp for political prisoners are different from an ordinary prison. It is located in the remote mountain area, and resembles like a village. Its area is as large as a few villages put together. To prevent escape, it is surrounded with wire fences at 2~3 meter high. There are guard towers and guards are on watch for 24 hours.

In addition to guards, there are ‘search squads’ around a camp, and people in its neighborhood are given awards for turning in escapees.

The escape was successful this time because escapees were able to quickly get out of the camp’s vicinity using get-away vehicle(s) along with other outside help.

21 escapees were said to be caught during house-to-house search afterwards.

Li’l Kim can’t be too happy about this.

By the way, I never did figure out what the heck that was on the back of Li’l Kim’s head.

Li’l Kim and the Giant Rabbit

giantwabbit.jpgDiplomats and escaped dissidents talk of a vain, paranoid, cognac-guzzling hypochondriac.

He is said to wear platform shoes and wear a bouffant hairstyle in order to appear taller than his 5 feet 3 inches.

And now, Li’l Kim has discovered a way to beef up, err, I mean increase meat production in North Korea.

Giant Rabbits.
Gee, it’s all so clear to me now. How did I miss this?

A German pensioner who won a prize and worldwide fame for breeding his country’s largest rabbit — Robert, a 10.5kg (23lb) bruiser the size of a dog — has been offered an unusual opportunity to exploit his talents overseas.
Karl Szmolinsky has been given a contract by North Korea to supply giant rabbits to help to boost meat production in the reclusive Communist country, which is suffering severe food shortages. The only problem is that such huge rabbits consume vast quantities of food themselves as they grow.

Mr Szmolinsky, from Eberswalde, in the east of Germany, was contacted by the North Korean Embassy in Berlin in October after Robert attracted press coverage. “They want to boost meat production. They’ve arranged for me to go to Pyongyang in April to advise them on setting up a breeding farm,” Mr Szmolinsky, who is 68 next month, told The Times.
