Still think the establishment GOP is your friend?

A Guest Post by Dick Bachert

I’ve posted this around the net a number of times and do so again inasmuch as THIS is a constantly recurring problem and some may not grasp how widespread it is. And now that the RNC has OPENLY declared war on the TEA Party, it should be clear to all why I have for a few decades cautioned my many friends to NOT SEND THE RNC A NICKLE.

frayedOver the years – when, to steal a line from Billy Joel, I wore a younger man’s clothes – I was involved with several pretty solid conservative candidates for Congress. One was a Democrat (Lawrence Patton McDonald) – because that was the only way he could win in that district. Those old-timers who know Larry’s record will tell you that he was a solid an anti-communist America Firster and more Republican than the Pubbies in nearby districts at the time. (His mother’s cousin was General George Patton from whom he got the middle name – and his incredible resolve and love of this country.) How ironic that he, like General Patton, was also assassinated by the communists they both despised. It was my honor to introduce Larry at his last public speech in the district before that ill-fated KAL007 flight!

Those other candidates ran as Republicans and each had to pass my rigid litmus test or I went looking for someone who did. For that reason, I hooked up with what the TRADITIONAL country club Pubbie establishment types believed were too radical for their refined tastes. I served as treasurer for several and in other capacities for more.

As those campaigns began to unfold and it became clear to the country clubbers that these guys 1) had a shot and 2) were pretty independent thinkers who would be hard to keep on the reservation once they got sworn in, the local Pubbies communicated that information to the Republican National HQ types who rather quickly sent in campaign “professionals” ostensibly to lock up the impending victory.

Instead, in nearly every case to which I was privy, these “professionals” proceeded to TORPEDO our guy’s campaign in subtle but effective ways.

From that experience I can tell you that the Pubbies at the HQ in D.C. would rather have a Democrat win a given district than have a pubbie up there who would embarrass them by refusing to follow the party line.

nacho friendIf YOU become involved in campaigns for solidly conservative, America and Constitution loving, hard-nosed, independent thinking candidates in 2014 and beyond – and I pray many of you do — please DO NOT trust any of those folks from GOP HQ in Washington. If they want to send you no-strings cash for your campaign, take it. If, however, they “suggest” sending in one of their “professionals,” tell them to fuggetaboutit.

They ARE WHO GOT US INTO THIS MESS AND THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS!!!!

“The common and continual mischief of the spirit of Party is
sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to
discourage and restrain it.” G. Washington

(BTW, My genealogical research informs me that my 5th great-grandfather, one John Carpenter, was one of George Washington’s Virginia neighbors and fought with GW in the French and Indian War and the Revolution. Prior to that, John traveled with GW during his survey of the Northwest Territories.)

How the GOP Establishment Won in Mississippi

Perhaps it was an echo of Obama’s 2009 declaration to the GOP, “I won,” or Stalin’s observation that, “It’s not the people who vote that count, it’s the people who count the votes.” Tonight’s runoff between Chris McDaniel and Thad Cochran has left me a little discouraged, but more than just a little bit angry.

I read a tweet from the NYT that history was made tonight when an elderly white Republican in Mississippi was bailed out by crossover votes from Black Democrats. Indeed, that is exactly what happenned.

Cochran won by roughly 7,000 votes. Hinds county, which includes the capital city of Jackson, is about 75% Democrat. Cochran’s increase in voting strength in Hinds County was a net 7,000 votes. So how does it happen that so many more Democrats decided to cross over and vote in the Republican Primary?

1) Moneywalking around” money, vote buying, and bussing Democrats in to vote in Republican Primaries.

2) Fear: A robo call went out stating “say no to the tea party. They hate the first black president… say no to the tea party by voting for Thad.” The call was placed mainly to african americans in MS.

3) More Fear: This last ditch radio ad on election day was particularly disgusting.

The tactics of the establishment Republicans, including both the current and former Governor, have left a lasting and bitter taste with conservative Mississippians. It’s bad enough to hear that kind of rhetorical arson from the Leftists, but when our own Party calls us Racists and Extremists?

You establishment republicans have gone too far. Mitch McConnell said he was going to crush the Tea Party. So he can sit back now, and say “I won.” We will have to see if he can win in November if the Tea Party stays home. I don’t know about anyone else, but THIS Racist Tea-Party Bastard is going fishing the first week of November.

If you like your NSA surveillance program, you can keep it

In July, an amendment sponsored by Rep Justin Amash failed to pass muster in the House.  This amendment would have ended the “indiscriminate collection” of American’s telephone records, to those records that pertain to a person who is subject to an investigation under Section 215 of the Patriot Act.

It failed, 217-205.

The vote was very close, and disappointing for citizens who believe that their Constitutional right to privacy is being violated on a daily basis.  Frankly, I’m amazed that this has gotten so little play in the Press.

I have a message for those Americans who like their NSA surveillance program:  You can keep it.

For the rest of us, Rep. Amash is now sponsoring a new bill.

big-brotherThe legislation, titled The USA Freedom Act, would, if signed into law, curb the National Security Agency’s ability to conduct communications sweeps and close a “back door” to information by requiring a court order when performing searches of Americans in data already collected without warrants.

“It’s getting out of control. “… “(Courts are issuing) general warrants without specific cause, … and you have one agency that’s essentially having superpowers to pass information onto others.”  —  Justin Amash, 11/6/2013.

Surprisingly, John Boehner and the establishment GOP is against this legislation.  This disgraceful group of so-called conservatives includes my own Congress-critter, Gregg Harper.

Is your Congressman on the list of those who voted against the original legislation?  Check here to see.  Then, send them a note, and let them know what you think.

This is truly an idea whose time has arrived.
