White House to contractors: Hold off on layoff warnings

By Jeanne Sahadi @CNNMoney,   September 28, 2012

The White House on Friday told government contractors worried about fiscal cliff spending cuts to hold off on warning employees about possible layoffs.

The government said it would cover legal costs if contractors are forced to slash their payrolls because of the looming $109 billion in automatic cuts next year and are alleged to have violated the WARN Act.

The federal WARN Act requires businesses with more than 100 employees to notify workers at least 60 days in advance of a mass layoff or plant closing. Some states require more notice.

“Any resulting employee compensation costs for WARN Act liability as determined by a court, as well as attorneys’ fees and other litigation costs (irrespective of litigation outcome) would qualify as allowable costs and be covered by the contracting agency, if otherwise reasonable and allocable,” the Office of Management and Budget said in its guidance.

Defense contractors in particular have warned for months that the upcoming sequester would cost jobs in their industry. And Lockheed Martin‘s CEO has said publicly he may be forced to issue notice this fall of possible layoffs in 2013.

If other contractors follow suit, there could be a rash of layoff notices spooking employees right before Election Day.

So, according to Obama, his OMB is not subject to the Federal WARN Act.  Last week, also according to Obama, we learned that his Secretary of HHS is not subject to obeying the Federal Hatch Act.

Instead of a nation of laws, this nation, under Obama, risks becoming a nation of pay-to-play.

It is time for Congress to their duty and draft Articles of Impeachment right away.   This unlawful pattern of behavior endangers the Republic, and must not be allowed to stand.

OOPS! Sebelius “forgot” about $200,000 donation

Letter reveals more corruption from Obama’s pick to lead HHS

A second financial revelation has cast further doubt on Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ representation to the Senate Finance Committee of the nature of her relationship with late-term abortionist George Tiller.

Sebelius is President Obama’s nominee for the secretary of the Health and Human Services (HHS). She is currently seeking Senate confirmation.

After Sebelius was recently found to have reported only a fraction of Tiller’s $38,450 in donations to her insurance commissioner campaign, Operation Rescue yesterday released a copy of a 2002 letter from Tiller stating that he contributed $200,000 to his political action committee (PAC) to assist Sebelius’ gubernatorial reelection.

In the letter addressed to members of ProKanDo, Tiller’s political action committee, Tiller warns against Sebelius’ “anti-choice” opponent Tim Shallenburger, and expresses regret that his “personal contribution of $200,000 to ProKanDo” was not enough “to alert voters to the anti-choice position of Mr. Shallenberger (sic).”

Tiller then urges constituents to raise another $250,000 to help spread the message that Sebelius’ opponent “does not trust women.”

Daschle channels Steve Martin (updated)

Update: Breaking News, Tom Daschle withdraws his name from HHS consideration. Developing
more here, and here,
word is, Daschle won’t be the health care czar either.

Writing at NRO, Byron York poses the key unanswered question regarding the Daschle HHS nomination,

“… why it suddenly occurred to Daschle, in June 2008, that the car and driver he had been provided by a wealthy Democratic donor in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 might count as income and thus be subject to taxes — taxes which Daschle had not paid.”

Daschle’s answer? “I forgot!” [cue Steve Martin tape].

You can be a millionaire.. and never pay taxes!!
You say.. “Steve.. how can I be a millionaire.. and never pay taxes?” First.. get a million dollars. Now.. you say, “Steve.. what do I say to the tax man when he comes to my door and says, ‘You.. have never paid taxes’?” Two simple words. Two simple words in the English language: “I forgot!” How many times do we let ourselves get into terrible situations because we don’t say “I forgot”?
