Don’t Freak If You Get White Powder In The Mail

If you get an envelope in the mail containing white powder, chances are, it’s nothing to freak out about.

According to local officials, the Bayer Aspirin Company will be deploying a nationwide mass mailing ad campaign that seems a little “misguided.”

Between May 20 and May 29, the Aspirin Company will be sending out 178,000 envelopes. Of those envelopes, 33,561 will contain a sample of Bayer Aspirin Crystals, which is a white powder.

Misguided?  Definitely.
Attention-getting?  Certainly.
Effective promotion?  We shall see.

I would mention that if you get an envelope in the mail that you’re unsure of, please call the authorities.

CDC: Over 100,000 Americans May Have Swine Flu

While the official tally of confirmed U.S. swine flu cases topped 4,700 on Friday, experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now estimate the true number of infections at more than 100,000 nationwide. [snip]

In fact, “estimates of the confirmed and probable cases in the United States is probably not the best indicator of transmission at this point,” the CDC’s Jernigan said. “The outbreak is not localized, but is spreading and appears to be expanding throughout the United States. This is an ongoing public health threat,” he said.

CDC says twenty-two states are reporting higher than normal flu cases for this time of year, both seasonal flu and the new H1N1 Swine Flu.

Swine Flu, Pregnancy and Fertility

Here is an interesting article by Colette Bouchez that I saw over at NowPublic.

Naturally, this article is of particular interest to me, as young Nuke Jr. and his bride are expecting their first in early September.  (P.S.  sonograms say it’s a boy…. Nuke III, maybe?)

If flu occurs, here are the recommendations …

The first is to control your fever. The March of Dimes recommends acetaminophen (Tylenol) but talk to your doctor first to make certain it’s okay for you. You should also try to keep your body as cool as possible with cold compresses, and drink plenty of fluids. Pregnancy is not the time to “sweat out ” a fever.

Second is continue to take your prenatal vitamins – particularly 1000 mcg of folic acid. Studies conducted at the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities in England, found that women who took a multi vitamin high in folic acid during pregnancy decreased their baby’s risk of birth defects, even if they ran a fever while pregnant.

And the use of the antivirals, tamiflu and relenza?

… it’s important to note that there have not been any cases of birth defects or other serious health concerns linked to the use of these drugs in pregnant women who have used them.

All good to know.  Thanks Colette.

Breakthrough battery can charge up in seconds

Scientists in the United States have invented a battery that can charge in seconds, promising a revolution in power storage that could also help green cars and renewable energy.

The advance allows lithium-ion batteries, the standard variety used in consumer electronics and cells for electric or hybrid vehicles, both to charge and discharge stored energy more quickly than at present.

This should lead to smaller, lighter batteries for mobile phones and other devices, which can be fully charged when plugged in for a few seconds.

Lithium-ion batteries that can be recharged in a fraction of the time … this is truly a game changer.  Imagine an electric vehicle that can be re-charged in minutes, rather than hours.  This new process effectively removes the greatest obstacle to widespread acceptance of electric vehicles.

Scientists at M.I.T. say that the new batteries could be ready within 2 or 3 years.

Medical Madoff: Data Faked in 21 Studies

Over the past 12 years, anesthesiologist Scott Reuben revolutionized the way physicians provide pain relief to patients undergoing orthopedic surgery for everything from torn ligaments to worn-out hips. Now, the profession is in shambles after an investigation revealed that at least 21 of Reuben’s papers were pure fiction, and that the pain drugs he touted in them may have slowed postoperative healing.

“We are talking about millions of patients worldwide, where postoperative pain management has been affected by the research findings of Dr. Reuben,” says Steven Shafer, editor in chief of the journal Anesthesia & Analgesia, which published 10 of Reuben’s fraudulent papers.

The fraudulent data resulted in the sale of billions of dollars of COX2 inhibitors, including Vioxx, and Celebrex.  Anesthesia & Analgesia editors say in hindsight, “it should have been a “red flag” that Reuben’s studies were consistently favorable to the drugs he studied.”

It seems to be a sign of the times that red flags have been continuously ignored for years in many fields of commerce.

Former Member Of Pfizer Speaker Bureau Accused Of Research Fraud

“A former member of Pfizer Inc.’s speakers’ bureau who helped pioneer new pain treatments that combined two of the company’s major products has been accused of perpetrating one of the biggest research frauds in medical history.

Dr. Scott S. Reuben, an anesthesiologist on the staff at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., is currently on medical leave and has been stripped of any research or educational duties for at least 10 years, according to a story first reported in Anesthesiology News.”

Baxter: Product contained live bird flu virus

When I saw this story on a website some days ago, but was unable to find any one else writing about it, I thought it might just be another of the whirlwind of unproven stories that find a home on the internet.  Now, the Toronto Sun has picked up on the story.

The company that released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria confirmed Friday that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses.

And an official of the World Health Organization’s European operation said the body is closely monitoring the investigation into the events that took place at Baxter International’s research facility in Orth-Donau, Austria.

“At this juncture we are confident in saying that public health and occupational risk is minimal at present,” medical officer Roberta Andraghetti said from Copenhagen, Denmark.

“But what remains unanswered are the circumstances surrounding the incident in the Baxter facility in Orth-Donau.”

The contaminated product, a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and unlabelled H5N1 viruses, was supplied to an Austrian research company. The Austrian firm, Avir Green Hills Biotechnology, then sent portions of it to sub-contractors in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany.

With all of the talk about the pandemic possiblity of H5N1 mutating into something out of a Stephen King novel, I’m just shaking my head in wonder at the utter stupidity of Baxter International.

Team’s gesture supports grieving opponent

With all the cruddy news of the day, this story made me smile. …..

Two missed free throws, ordinarily the cause of a coach’s headache, became the symbol of sportsmanship in a Milwaukee boys basketball game earlier this month.

Milwaukee Madison senior Johntell Franklin, who lost his mother, Carlitha, to cancer on Saturday, Feb. 7, decided he wanted to play in that night’s game against DeKalb (Ill.) High School after previously indicating he would sit out.

He arrived at the gym in the second quarter, but Franklin’s name was not in the scorebook because his coach, Aaron Womack Jr., didn’t expect him to be there.

Rules dictated Womack would have to be assessed a technical, but he was prepared to put Franklin in the game anyway. DeKalb coach Dave Rohlman and his players knew of the situation, and told the referees they did not want the call.

The referees had no choice. But Rohlman did.

Police release photo of arson suspect

Victorian police have released a composite photo of a man wanted for questioning over the Australian brush fires that killed at least 181 people and which authorities suspect may have been started by arsonists.

australian-arson-suspectPolice gave warning that the death toll from the fires that ravaged Victoria state last weekend could exceed 200 as fire fighters continue to battle 30 blazes across the state.

The man in the composite photo, who police say is in his early 20s and has a dark complexion, is believed to have information about a suspicious fire at Ivanhoe East, in Melbourne’s north-east.

He was apparently seen in the area wearing black trousers, a polo shirt and yellow sunglasses and carrying a black rucksack.

Arson investigators are looking into several of the bush fires that destroyed more than 1,000 homes. The fire that wiped out the town of Marysville and claimed up to 100 lives has been classed as suspicious.

A simple act of civil disobedience

Is dissent still patriotic?  Blogger Dave G. is ready to find out.

geithnertaxcheatI think it’s time for a comeback for civil disobedience. The only thing that angers me more than the rampant elitism and corruption in our government is that apparent tolerance for it that was demonstrated most recently with the appointment of what is almost certainly a tax cheat as the Treasury Secretary. Surely I am not alone in wondering why I am a big enough sap to pay tens of thousands of dollars in Federal taxes each and every year, while our Washington bureaucrats seem to get away consequence free with a pattern of cheating and fraud. And please, don’t tell me Tom Daschle didn’t get away with it. Sure, he lost his position for a cabinet position, but don’t you think he will be laughing all the way back to his millions-a-year “consulting” gig? Will he be prosecuted for his fraud like I would be? Did he pay any penalties? No, and no.

Hundreds who posted views on sex assault trial targeted in Tarrant

FORT WORTH — Hundreds of people who posted their opinions of a sexual assault trial in an online forum are now the targets of a lawsuit.

The authors of those comments on a Web site thought they were anonymous, but this week, a judge ruled their names should be revealed.

The WFAA reporter characterizes the comments as “too graphic to be included in this story.”  I imagine anyone who has ever browsed mainstream internet forums have run across the same kind of thing.

I’m certainly not defending the comments made on this particular forum.  But, it truly bothers me to find out that commenters can be sued for making supposedly anonymous comments.

Still, the burden of proof will be on the plaintiffs, and absent malice, the case is by no means a slam dunk.  But who know how a sympathetic jury may rule?  And, what effect would such a ruling have on blogs and forums?

We shall see.

The Myth of the Undecided Voter

Update: Welcome readers from Free Republic

You’ve seen them in interactive focus groups, and most recently in the Town hall debate: The Undecideds.

It makes a normal voter wonder, “Where in the heck to they find these people?”

The answer was inadvertently revealed at by Domenico Montanaro in his interview with “undecided” voter Oliver Clark, one of the Town hall debate questioners …

…the Sunday before last, I received a call from the Gallop Poll. They asked a few questions regarding my choice in the Presidential election. They asked who I would vote for. I said most likely I would be voting for Barack Obama. They followed with, “is there any chance that you would change your mind“? I said “Of course anything is possible.” They then asked me as an uncommitted voter would I like to participate in the Town hall debate. I said “Of course!”

Of course! It’s so clear to me now. This man is obviously undecided.

So, next time a pollster calls me and asks me if there is any chance I might change my mind, instead of telling them, “No,” I’ll just say, “When monkeys fly out of my ____,” and voila! You might just see El Nuko in the next Frank Luntz focus group!

Best Line of the Day: Dick Morris on “The One”

McCain, Obama react to Georgia-Russia conflict

Presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama gave their opinions today on the current conflict between Russia and Georgia, both expressing their hopes for a cease-fire and a negotiated settlement.

McCain … believes NATO’s North Atlantic Council should convene an emergency session to demand a cease-fire, and begin talking about a peacekeeping force for South Ossetia.

Obama thinks the U.N. Security Council should pass a resolution calling for an immediate end to the violence. He also thinks a U.N. mediator should join efforts to try to end the fighting. source

I suppose someone forgot to tell Mr. Obama that Russia is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, with full veto power over any resolution.

He must be exhausted, lugging around that giant brain all the time.

Daily pill halts Alzheimer’s in its tracks

“This is an unprecedented result in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease,” said Prof Claude Wilschik, leader of a British research team. The results of the Phase 2 trials carried out by a team from the University of Aberdeen (UK) suggests that the new medication known as “rember” stops Alzheimer’s by as much as 81%. The findings are being hailed as the biggest breakthrough in the batle against Alzeimer’s in over a century.

Patients with the brain disorder had no significant decline in their mental function over a 19-month period.

‘We appear to be bringing the worst affected parts of the brain functionally back to life,’ said Dr Claude Wischik, who led the research.

It is the first time medication has been developed to target the ‘tangles’ in the brain that destroy nerve cells, leading to deteriorating memory.

The drug helps to disrupt this process, preventing the formation of new tangles and loosening those already created.

Last night the findings were hailed as the biggest breakthrough in the battle against Alzheimer’s since 1907.

Eventually the drug could be used to stop the disease in its early stages before symptoms have even appeared, it is hoped.

WFFOT the 13th Roundup

Good grief, it’s Friday already?

Since deciding to cut back on blogging activity a couple of weeks ago, my time away from the blogosphere has become more productive. Big surprise, huh.

We put the house on the market, found a small place with some land a few miles out of town that we should be able to pay cash for, and made some plans to accomplish two of the “ity” goals that we set for ourselves at the beginning of 2007: “liquidity”, and “defensibility”. The third “ity” goal” “mobility” has been largely accomplished, with the fourth, “sustainability” still in the planning stages. All in all, it’s been a busy two weeks, with more to come.

Mrs. Nuke told me the other day that she wants a new personal protection device. I’m leaning towards recommending a 38 snubbie, simplicity, reliabilty, and all that … (I kind of like those “ity” words). Suggestions and recommendations please …

Headlines and News Articles of interest …

John F. Kerry agrees with the SCOTUS – Gitmo ruling … What a complete dingus…

Reminiscent of “Get Smart” and the Cone of Silence, Scientists have shown off the blueprint for an “acoustic cloak”, which could make objects impervious to sound waves. I hear they’re remaking the old GS series into a feature film…..bringing back teenage fantasies about Agent 99 …

Great piece from Dr. K: “Make the Election about Iraq” … Speaking of Iraq, got an email from Mike Yon, who, after his book tour is headed back to Iraq. He’ll be reporting independent of embeds, meaning that he will not have the direct protection of the military … Please remember Mike in your prayers, and in your giving by buying Moment of Truth, or by making a direct contribution. Without your support, the mission will end.

Miracle Date? “A 2,000-year-old date seed discovered at Masada four decades ago may provide new cures to numerous ailments, Israeli scientists say, after making significant advances, against all odds, in producing fruit from the seed….to yield a now-extinct species of date that was renowned in ancient times as a treatment for heart disease, chest problems, the spitting of blood, weakened memory and other medical conditions, possibly even symptoms of cancer and depression. Dang… How much you figure those newly grown pits would go for on Ebay?

The Tyranny of PC: “The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter has halted a program to promote the adoption of black cats and dogs the week of June 14-20 after criticism that the event would have taken place the week of Juneteenth, Director Cheryl Schneider said today.

“We apologize if our promotion to reduce fees on black dogs and cats offended anyone,” Schneider said in a statement.”

They have the bastard on tape … “AUSTIN — Whoever launched the Molotov cocktail that led to the devastating weekend fire at the Texas Governor’s Mansion had breached the security fencing and was standing on the property’s front lawn at the time of the attack, officials said Thursday”

From the Dept of Paranoia … Is it paranoia if they really do want to kill you?

RoP school in Virginia teaches that …”a Muslim can take with impunity the life and property of someone believed guilty of polytheism. According to the panel, the strict Saudi interpretation of polytheism includes Shiite and Sufi Muslims as well as Christians, Jews, Hindus, and Buddhists.” Great. ……

Florida Muslim leaders met with Doudou Diène, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, at a Miami hearing to discuss Islamophobia and anti-Muslim discrimination” … I am up to here with this BS.

And finally, here’s a great site if you need a spiffy new name for your band, or blog, and no, they don’t actually use the word “spiffy.” Here’s what I came up with when I plugged in “Nuke” …

Nuke of the Blur
Wet Nuke
Nuke Mood
Nuke Void
Sublime Kneecap of the Nuke Boar
Nuke of the Diabolical
Shameless Nuke
Nuke Sunberry
Nuke Dad
Nuke Horse
Didactic Nuke
Nuke Grease
Tomato of the Nuke
Godless Habitat
Acid Nuke
Igneous Nuke
Western Sky
Nuke Goat and the Mayo
Icky Nuke
Nuke Cantaloupe
Nuke of the Glass
Intuition of the Nuke
Gourmet Counselor of the Nuke Vapor

I’m kind of partial to Nuke Goat and the Mayo. Speedshop Deli could have used this generator when they were naming my pickle. Heh™

School violence hot line saves lives

A national hot line that urges students to call in tips about weapons and school violence has gotten 198 calls about possible dangers in North Jersey since starting five years ago.In January, a caller told the “Speak Up” hot line that a student had threatened to seek revenge on peers.

Last November, a tipster claimed a first-grader had a gun in his backpack.

And last May, someone reported that a high schooler had sent a text message warning, “If you think Virginia Tech was bad, wait until senior prom.”

In each case, the hot line alerted police and schools about the anonymous tips.

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most effective.

And, in a very interesting twist to this story……..the founder of the hotline, Matthew Gross, is trying to rebuild his life after a stranger’s gunshot left him with a serious brain injury.

You might well remember Gross, who was visiting the top deck of the Empire State Building on Feb. 23, 1997, when an armed Palestinian furious at America went on a rampage, wounding Gross and five other people and killing Gross’ friend, Chris. The shooter, Ali Abu Kamal, turned his gun on himself and died that night at the same hospital where Gross lingered in a coma for five days. Doctors were astonished Gross pulled through.

Stumbling blocks become stepping stones.

Breakthrough energy discovery?

Calling it “the ultimate recycling” project, a Georgia agricultural researcher says he has found the solution to the world’s energy crisis.

Using a process of genetic modification and cloning of bacterial organisms that is capable of large-scale conversion of bio-mass into hydrocarbons, researcher J. C. Bell has enlisted the help of Sen. Saxby Chambliss, Sen. Johnny Isakson, Rep. Jim Marshall, Rep. Jack Kingston, and Floyd Gabler, the deputy undersecretary of the USDA, to bring attention to his project.

Bell has patented the process and has formed a corporation named Bell Bio-Energy, Inc.

Quoting an old Chinese proverb, “He who burns his food goes hungry,” Bell said he never considered using ethanol for his research. Instead he concentrated on bio-mass and hydrocarbons. Bio-mass is any living or recently dead biological material. Hydrocarbon is an organic compound consisting entirely of hydrogen and carbon. Decomposed organic matter provides an abundance of carbon and hydrogen and is naturally occurring in crude oil.

Sources for bio-mass are the forestry industry, pulp plants, agriculture and waste derived from the construction and demolition industry. “We are only using waste products.” In fact, a USDA study projected it was possible to produce two billions tons of bio-mass that could be converted to hydrocarbon. How much oil does that mean? “…you’re looking at 5 billion barrels of oil per year. That would be about two-thirds of what we use now.”

Bell says his groundbreaking discovery will require no modification to automobiles, oil pipelines or refineries as they exist today and could forever end the United States’ dependence on foreign oil.

Is this the “magic bullet” to solve the world’s thirst for energy?

Hong King schools close amid flu fears

Update from ABC News“Since March 6, health officials have recorded nine flu outbreaks, mostly at schools, affecting 532 people in the territory of nearly 7 million”

also, NP’s amyjudd reports

All kindergartens and junior schools in Hong Kong have closed early for their Easter holiday, after a flu-like illness killed three children.

The Education Bureau described the move as a “precautionary measure”.

More than 30 students from one school have showed flu-like symptoms and three children have died from apparently similar illnesses in recent weeks.

Experts are investigating a link to either bird flu or Sars
, a respiratory disease that hit Hong Kong in 2003.

Just when you thought flu season was over….

I went by the local hospital yesterday and asked them why they were extending the period for flu vaccinations. Normally flu season is over by the end of February, but this year, the CDC has extended the vaccination period to run through the end of March.

Peeling the onion

Over the past few weeks, I’ve offered up several short blurbs about the unraveling of the financial markets. To my surprise, it is a subject which continues to get only cursory media attention.

Were it not for the coverage in the foreign press, a person might be persuaded that all is well, that this is just a temporary slowdown which will be over and forgotten soon enough. I wish it were true.

The fourth quarter [’07] may be the worst earnings period for the financial industry since the Great Depression.” So said JPost in mid January. As the 10Ks roll in, the good news may be that it’s not quite that bad. The bad news, however, may be that the worst is yet to come. The fact is, nobody really knows how much of a hit the industry is going to take — primarily because of the uncertainty of putting an accurate valuation [heck, at this point, a ball-park valuation would be nice] on a particular type of security, a derivative known as a collateralized debt obligation, or CDO.

The unraveling is not limited to US banks and insurance companies. The Telegraph is reporting that EU banks are staring down the barrel of an additional $68 bilion in write-offs, as yet another layer of the onion is peeled away.

Our major financial institutions are in trouble. Our political institutions are both unprepared and unwilling to lead.

Most of us will feel the bite in our 401(k)’s. We’re still a month away from the mailing of the 2008 1st quarter account statements, which will cause many folks to pay attention to this for the first time. Most of the major indices are down double digits YTD, the Benchmark S&P 500 down about 12%. The additive effect of the poor results for 4th Q ’07 will be a combined decrease of over 20% from the market high, and maybe more by the end of this quarter.

Six years ago, after taking it on the chin following the Tech Bust, I rebalanced my portfolio to a “moderate” profile, about 60-40 stocks to bonds. I’ve maintained that profile, even though the temptation was to chase after the returns during the Bush bull market. Now, the temptation is to move to sidelines and wait it out. I think, though, I’m going to keep doing what I’ve been doing. I’m trying to practice what I preach: fend for myself, prepare, study, decide, adjust, adapt, and overcome.

There is more to come. The unraveling continues.

Has Muqtada al-Sadr assumed RT?

(*Room Temperature)

The leader of the Shi’ite Sadrists in Iraq, Muqtada Al-Sadr, has announced in a letter to his followers that he is stepping down from his position, distancing himself from people, and focusing on his studies.

He explained that he was doing so because he had failed in carrying out his father’s will to liberate Iraq from the occupation and turning its people into believing Muslims.

He wrote that the continuation of the occupation, the many who were distancing themselves from the true path, and their turning to politics and affairs of this world had motivated him to sequester himself from human society, in order to carry out his obligation to Allah and not to add sin to the crime.

Al-Sadr called on his men to obey the committee for managing the affairs of the Sadrist movement and all Sadrist institutes, and its representatives that bear the name of the Office of Al-Sayed Al-Shahid – which is named after his father, Ayatollah Muhammad Sadeq Al-Sadr, murdered in 1999 by the regime of Iraqi president Saddam Hussein.

I can’t imagine this fellow just voluntarily stepping aside for the reasons stated. On March 3, Al-Siyassa (Kuwait) reported that al-Sadr had been “secretly transferred a few days ago from Iraq to Iran for hospitalization as he was comatose. It was reported that his illness resulted from food poisoning.”

Nature abhors a vacuum. I wonder who the next Shiite strongman will be?

Romney “bundler” could face insider trading charges

A billionaire fundraising “bundler” of presidential candidate Mitt Romney could face a criminal investigation into insider share dealing after selling over $200 million of shares just days before Societe Generale’s rogue-trader losses were reported.robertandkellyday.jpgRobert Day, a member of the French bank’s board, disposed of a million shares on January 9 and 10, plus a further 500,000 on January 18, according to official disclosures to Autorite des Marches Financiers (AMF), France’s market regulator.

The $8 billion losses at the bank were not disclosed to the public or investors until January 24, despite reports that Societe Generale bosses were aware of the crisis several days earlier.

A file lodged with public prosecutor Francois Foulon also demands an inquiry into alleged insider trading and fraud.[…]

But a spokesman for Mr Day, a major cash backer of Mr Bush who is now helping Mitt Romney’s White House bid, said last night that it was coincidence that he unloaded the stock just before it plunged. “He received no inside information before the sales were made,” he added.

He said Mr Day had no idea the bank was in trouble until a board meeting on January 20, two days after the last of his share sales.

He added: “Mr Day still holds 1.9million shares in Societe Generale.” source

This marks the second fundraising kerfluffle for the Romney campaign. Last August, Romney’s national finance committee co-chairman, Alan B. Fabian was charged in a 23 count indictment. Money laundering, mail fraud, perjury and obstruction of justice were charged. According to reports, Fabian ran a scheme that netted him millions of dollars which were used to purchase beach front property and travel. Although similar to the Norman Hsu-Hillary Clinton scandal, Romney refused to return funds donated by others through Fabian, returning only Fabian’s $2,300 campaign donation.

Police: Woman Thinks She’s Being Fired, Sabotages Boss

A Jacksonville woman is facing charges after police say she sabotaged the business from which she thought she was being fired by erasing some important computer files.

With the stroke of a computer key and by pulling some important cables police said 41-year-old Marie Cooley nearly destroyed $2.5 million worth of computer files at a Southside architect company.

Investigators said Cooley thought she was being fired, so she deleted expensive drawings in an attempt to incapacitate her boss’ computer system to get revenge.

As it turns out, Ms. Cooley was not going to be fired.

But, I doubt she will be getting much of a job reference from her former boss.

Mitt v Hillary: Take the Quiz

Listening to their current stump speeches, Mitt Romney and Hillary Clinton seem like polar opposites. The Democratic lightening rod and the former New England governor appear to offer voters a contrasting vision of leadership: government activism versus free market solutions to the challenges of 21st century America.Their rhetoric, however, is a different story. In fact, many of their statements are downright interchangeable.

Criticisms of each candidate range from opportunism to pandering, hypocrisy to flip-flopping. Certainly, the two candidates offer starkly different leadership styles, policy differences, and philosophies of governance. But, just listening to their words, it’s sometimes difficult to tell who said what to whom.

We’ve pulled the following quotes from the excellent resource website, “On The Issues.” See if you can identify the speaker as Mitt Romney, or Hillary Clinton.

1) “I am adamantly against illegal immigrants. People have got to stop employing illegal immigrants. you see loads of people waiting to get picked up to go do yard work & construction work & domestic work.”

2) “We have to have our citizens insured, and we’re not going to do that by tax exemptions, because the people that don’t have insurance aren’t paying taxes.”

3) “I hate the idea of in any way making it more difficult for kids, even those who are illegal aliens, to afford college.”

4) “We need to stand firm on behalf of sensible gun control legislation.”

5) “I also support an assault weapon ban.”

6) “The American people are tired of liars and people who pretend to be something they’re not.”

7) “I have never met anyone who is pro-abortion. Being pro-choice is not being pro-abortion.”

8] “We ought to be providing domestic partnership benefits for people who are in homosexual and lesbian relationships.”

The answers:

(1) Hillary, (2) Mitt, (3) Mitt, (4) Hillary, (5) Mitt, (6) Hillary, (7) Hillary, (8) Hillary

So, how did you do? If you got all 8 correctly, you win this pdf of Hillary Clinton’s 1969 Wellesley thesis, “There Is Only The Fight,” (suitable for downloading).

P.S. — I started to say something about the commonality of Hillary seeing Dr. MLK in Chicago, 1962, and Mitt “seeing” his father march with Dr. MLK, but I decided that might be piling on a bit. Heh™.

Well, it had to happen sooner or later.
