Jeremiah Wright, PBUH

Over at Free Republic, contributor “Timeout” posts this excerpt from a year-old article from The New Republic …

After many lectures like this, Obama decided to take a second look at Wright’s church. Older pastors warned him that Trinity was for “Buppies”–black urban professionals–and didn’t have enough street cred. But Wright was a former Muslim and black nationalist who had studied at Howard and Chicago, and Trinity’s guiding principles–what the church calls the “Black Value System”–included a “Disavowal of the Pursuit of Middleclassness.'”

Jeremiah Wright, a muslim?

This is the first I’ve heard of this. All the muslim references up til now have been directed at Obama. The defense of Wright as some kind of modern-day MLK began in earnest last week, but never a mention of his muslim past.

Jeremiah Wright, PBUH.

Here is a screenshot of the article, just in case it “disappears.” The excerpted paragraph is about 3/4 way down.

Update: More on J. Wright……….
# Dr. Wright is a student of the history of religions. His master’s degree from the University of Chicago is in that discipline and his area of concentration as an historian of religions was Islam in West Africa. While a student at the University of Chicago (U of C) he studied with the esteemed Islamic professor, Dr. Fazlur Rahman.

# Dr. Wright’s Master’s thesis at the Divinity School of the U of C was the Tijaniyya among the Bambara, the Fulbe and the Tuckolour. The Tijaniyya was a 19th Century Sufi movement (a sect of Sufism) which swept into West Africa during the period of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade.

Rules for radicals

Update: We’ve noticed that a large number of readers have found this post looking for a download of Rules for Radicals.

To my knowledge, there isn’t a free version on the net. I have, however found Alinsky’s last interview, given in 1972 to Playboy magazine. It is a great read, and an eye-opener… Here is the pdf (takes a moment to load) alinsky_1972_interview1

+++++

alinsky.jpgWho is this man, and what does he have to do with modern leftist political tactics?

His name was Saul Alinsky, the mentor of Hillary Rodham Clinton, and the consigliere emeritus of modern liberalism. His 1971 book, Rules for Radicals, reads like the political playbook of the Soros-Clinton machine, as well as allied groups such as Moveon.org, CREW, ACORN,and others.

Alinsky was also the subject of the previously suppressed 1969 Wellesley Thesis by one Hillary Rodham.

Please feel free to download the pdf. As the election season moves into full swing, it becomes more important than ever to gain insight into our political opponents.

The thesis is long and tedious. I’ve never read a thesis that wasn’t. But, it should also be revealing.

I expect it provides a window into the mind modern democrat party and the lengths to which they will go to achieve power. And, that makes it an important read. I plan on posting some comments after I’ve read it in detail.

So, who was Saul Alinsky? Here is an interesting snapshot of his leftist holy book (h/t Slyfox):

saulalinskyrfr.jpgRules for Radicals provides the organizer with a tactical style for community organization that assumes an adversarial relationship between groups of people in which one either dominates or is dominated.

“The first rule of power tactics is: power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.”

“Wherever possible go outside the experience of the enemy. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat.”

“Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this. They can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.”

Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also, it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage.”

“The threat is generally more terrifying than the thing itself.”

“In a fight almost anything goes. It almost reaches the point where you stop to apologize if a chance blow lands above the belt.”

“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”

One of the criteria for picking the target is the target’s vulnerability … the other important point in the choosing of a target is that it must be a personification, not something general and abstract.”

“The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength.”
