Why I won’t be voting for Barack

It will come as no great surprise to regular readers of this blog that I have decided to not vote for BH Obama next month. Since several respected Republican pundits and politicians have stirred the pot recently by making their reasoning for endorsing Obama part of the political discourse, I thought I might reveal some of the reasons why I am not supporting him, especially since McCain was not my first, or even my second choice in the Republican primary.

One of the great pleasures of self employment for me is the freedom to decide with whom to do business. In a small business, the need for trust is critical. I wouldn’t any more hire a known liar than I would risk a large inventory to a potential client without an unimpeachable letter of credit. Why would I jeopardize the financial security of those who depend on me by making such an immature business decision?

Further, I wouldn’t knowingly decide to depend upon a supplier with a track record of not doing what he says he will do. Choosing vendors and suppliers is as much about dependability and accountability as it is about cost.

Bottom line is this: since I get to choose, I choose not to do business with liars.

My vote is no less important.

On several occasions, Obama verbally committed to participating in public Presidential financial system, saying he would “aggressively pursue an agreement” with John McCain. In fact, he completed the MDN Questionnaire which included this question…

Question I-B:
If you are nominated for President in 2008 and your major opponents agree to forgo private funding in the general election campaign, will you participate in the presidential public financing system?

OBAMA: Yes. …[snip]… Senator John McCain (r-AZ) has already pledged to accept this fundraising pledge. If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election.

In his first major consequential decision, Obama chose expediency over integrity.

Obama lied. Credibility died. His refusal to keep his word is more than troubling. It is a window into his character. If he will lie about money, what else will he lie about?

I don’t do business with liars, nor will I vote for one.

The Arrogance Of Obama

Dangit, I tried. I was really trying to get away from the politics and get back to other issues. But THIS is just beyond believable. See the videos below.

McCain, Obama react to Georgia-Russia conflict

Presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama gave their opinions today on the current conflict between Russia and Georgia, both expressing their hopes for a cease-fire and a negotiated settlement.

McCain … believes NATO’s North Atlantic Council should convene an emergency session to demand a cease-fire, and begin talking about a peacekeeping force for South Ossetia.

Obama thinks the U.N. Security Council should pass a resolution calling for an immediate end to the violence. He also thinks a U.N. mediator should join efforts to try to end the fighting. source

I suppose someone forgot to tell Mr. Obama that Russia is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, with full veto power over any resolution.

He must be exhausted, lugging around that giant brain all the time.

Obama plagiarizes Star Trek

In this episode, a group of space hippies are in search of Utopian Bliss in a world known as “Eden.” All the cool space hippies use the “O” salute. And if you ain’t cool, you’re a “herbert.”

Their search for Utopia ends tragically, but as all good liberals know, the end results don’t matter as long as your intentions are good.

The Obama candidacy is turning into a bad joke, a Disneyesque re-creation of the worst of the 60’s.

Update: Man, talk about overconfidence.

Barry Certainly Is Getting Lots Of Letters These Days!

We already know that B-HO is the world leader in unsolicited campaign songs. Now it appears he is taking the lead in the candidate receiving the most unsolicited letters.
First, there is a post at Gates of Vienna, with a very reasonable and thoughtful letter to Barry, from a mother and daughter, that are Iranian-Americans.

In closing, Senator, even if you manage to dialogue with the ruling clergy in Iran, they will never keep their word. They are masters of deception, manipulation, rhetoric and spin. They are incapable of even honoring their own signatures, and refuse to abide by the terms and conditions of treaties that they themselves have agreed upon time and time again, as we have witnessed in their reactions to U.N. resolutions.

While the above letter is a sincere attempt to inform and sway B-HO from his statements to have “unconditional” talks with the President of Iran, it has a certain naivety. It doesn’t hit quite hard enough, and will most likely never receive a response.
However, our old friend iowahawk has been busy, and has found three letters to B-HO, that have received replies. Dear Barry…Relationship Advice From Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

1)Dear Barry:

I try to get along with the people in my neighborhood, but sometimes it can be difficult. Take for example my neighbor “Mahmoud.” Last weekend while I was seeding my lawn, he drove back and forth slowly in front of my house “flipping the bird” from his minivan, which is painted with pictures of bloody corpses and mushroom clouds and “welcome 12th Imam.”

2)Dear Barry:

My girlfriend and I have been talking about “taking it to the next level” and moving in together. The trouble is that she doesn’t know I live in a Satanist-only condo complex. To tell you the truth I’m not really into the whole Satanism thing, and moved into the complex mostly because they offered me a free 10-speed bike with a one year lease. I’m also a member of the condo board, which knocks an extra $100 off my monthly lease, but it also means I have to attend the weekly goat sacrifice rituals.

3)Throughout dinner Michelle continued hectoring my boss about how screwed up my company is, and too obsessed with profits, and how she and I were going to fix all that, and why everyone probably should all drop out of the corporate world and become artists. To top it all off, during dessert she brought out her black velvet paintings of Che Guevara.

Anyway, this week at work my CEO hasn’t returned any of my emails or phone messages. What should I do to get back on the career ladder?

Mortified in Lake Forest

Want to read the advice B-HO has to offer? Well, follow the little blue hyperlink, but I must caution against having any food or beverage near your computer. You know how hysterically funny iowahawk can be. If you don’t, you soon will.

Can we ask? Yes, we can!

Does J. Wright Remember the Zebra Killings?

Rev J. Wright has been all over the news for the past few days, and the following was just one of many very revealing comments. His defense of the Nation of Islam, and Louis Farrakhan, at the National Press Club was vintage left-wing “victim politics”…. (HotAir has the clip)

“Louis Farrakhan is not my enemy. He did not put me in chains, he did not put me in slavery …”

Chains? Slavery? No, Farrakhan is not guilty of these crimes. Nor is anyone else, for that matter.

But, just in case anyone needs a reminder of some of the things which do qualify Farrakhan and the NOI as an enemy of liberty, here is something which is much more dangerous than Louis’ notorious hate-speech.

Remembering the Zebra Killings

The Zebra Killings occurred in the San Francisco bay area between 1972 and 1974 and left 71 people dead. They were dubbed the Zebra Killings because of the radio channel used by the police investigating the case (channel Z). The name would take on a more sinister meaning as it became apparent that a group of blacks was systematically stalking and killing whites simply because of the color of their skin….

The majority of the attacks were carried out by five members of a group within Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam called the “Death Angels.” Jesse Lee Cooks, J.C. Simon, Larry Green, Manuel Moore and Anthony Harris were part of this group which believed that whites were created 3,000 years ago by a black mad scientist named Yacub who wanted a race of inferiors to rule over. Death Angels believed they could earn “points” towards going to heaven when they died if they killed whites. For them, whites were not human beings but “grafted snakes,” “blue-eyed devils” and “white motherf—–s.”

Is there political strategery by the Obama campaign involved in Wright’s looney-tunes rant?

Probably. The more Wright speaks, the more he makes it all about himself, and his ego. His speaking tour puts everything in the present tense, quite possibly making it easier for Obama to distance himself from him.

The interesting part of all of this is seeing how many on the left, and in the media, actually agree with, or are sympathetic to Wright’s lunatic ravings.

Obama’s terrorist buds

”I don’t regret setting bombs,” Bill Ayers said. ”I feel we didn’t do enough.” Mr. Ayers, who spent the 1970’s as a fugitive in the Weather Underground, was sitting in the kitchen of his big turn-of-the-19th-century stone house in the Hyde Park district of Chicago.

The more I find out about Barack Obama, the more convinced I become that he must be defeated.

Jeremiah Wright is the least of his problems

It’s time to back away the Jeremiah Wright kerfluffle.

If Lanny Davis and other Clinton surrogates want to play the race game, then so be it. Obama is no racist, nor is he responsible for the inflammatory and seditious statements made by Jeremiah Wright.

Earlier today, I saw a video that has been mentioned by several bloggers on the right, which compares certain passages from Obama’s book and with selected video clips from several of Wright’s sermons. The viewer is led to the conclusion that Obama poses a threat to the country because of his racial beliefs.

The reason that Obama should not be President has nothing at all to do with race, and to spend time on these kinds of tactics won’t defeat him. It ignores the fact that his lack of experience leaves him unprepared to assume the duties of the job. It also ignores the fact that Obama exudes a certain grandiosity that surpasses mere cockiness and is, well, unseemly, if not dangerous.

Earlier this week at a San Francisco fundraiser, Obama said, “…foreign policy is the area where I am probably most confident that I know more and understand the world better than Senator Clinton or Senator McCain.

Oh, please.

After belittling Mrs. Clinton’s experience as First Lady as being ceremonial fluff, Obama went on to say that among the three candidates for President, only he passes the 3 AM Leadership Test. Indeed, he alone possesses “the judgment, the temperament to ask the right questions, to weigh the costs and benefits of military action, who insists on good intelligence, who is not going to be swayed by the short-term politics.” What a piece of work. source

And as for the ultimate foreign policy test, the one John Kerry called, “passing the Global Test,” Obama proposes a diplomatic Manhattan Project of sorts, with Iran’s Mahmoud Amadinejad. The same Ahmadinejad who said today, his country’s objective was to destroy what he called corrupt western powers:

“Our objective is to annihilate all corrupt powers that dominate our planet today,”
source

Iran is building nuclear weapons, and has tested the delivery systems to carry out Ahmadinejad’s objective. If he uses them, he gains favor of his god, and ushers in the End-Times chaos of the 12th Mahdi. If he is in turn incinerated in a retaliatory strike, he gets to spend eternity with 72 virgins. He wins either way.

Taking a college trip to Pakistan, living in Indonesia for four years as a child, and having poor relatives in Africa has convinced Obama that he has the necessary gravitas to engage in foreign policy on behalf of the world’s only superpower.

Jeremiah Wright is the least of his problems.

Weekend Smorgasbord

Starting with the Morphing Kitties,

Wouldn’t you have loved to be a fly on the wall during this conversation?

LESTER HOLT: Before we talk about what was behind your endorsement of Obama, I’ve got to ask you about the phone call you had to make on Thursday to Senator Clinton. You’re friends with the Clintons, you worked for Bill Clinton in his administration. What was the phone call like?

BILL RICHARDSON: Well [chortling], I’ve had better phone calls. I talked to Senator Clinton about 9 o’clock, and I told her, and, you know, she was, she was disappointed. It was a little bit heated. [ed: I’ll bet!]

Bill Clinton had told his wife’s campaign that he had received several assurances from Richardson that the governor would not endorse Obama.

In endorsing Obama, Richardson was not only taking sides in the most bitter of political fights, but rejecting the candidacy of a close friend.

“There’s something special, there’s something special about this guy,” Richardson said of Obama. “I’ve been trying to figure it out, but it’s very good.”

[ed: Don’t feel bad, Governor. Obama makes the best speech about nothing that has ever been made. That you can’t figure out what it is that you like about him puts you in the company of the majority of Democrat voters. Of course, you might just be campaigning for the veep spot. Heh.]

The continuing attack on Christianity, liberty, and the institutions of democracy from the convergence of the radical left, and muslim mufsidun:

Gadaffi says the Bible is a fraud

Gadaffi was speaking to a large crowd at Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium in Kampala after leading the Thuhur (afternoon) prayer, where he said any Bible and Torah (Old Testament) that does not mention the Prophet Mohammed was written by mankind and therefore a fraud.

“The Bible we have now is not the one that was revealed to Issa (Jesus) and the Old Testament is not the one that was revealed to Musa (Moses). Muhammad is mentioned in both (original versions), but the Tora and Bible we have now, there is no mention of him,” the Libyan head of state said.

Canada orders Christian ministry shut down

The Canadian government has ordered a Christian ministry that teaches doctrine and the differences between Christians and cults shut down because its reference materials were “critical” of the beliefs of those who are not Christian…

So what used to be called MacGregor Ministries with offerings in how to recognize and eliminate “faulty fads” in Christian churches has been re-created in the United States, and now operates under the name MM Outreach Media Ministries.

Jeff Head weighs in on Black Liberation Theology

“Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community … Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.”

EurabiaWatch: Taking Christ out of Christianity

That triumphal barnburner of an Easter hymn, Jesus Christ Has Risen Today – Hallelujah, this morning will rock the walls of Toronto’s West Hill United Church as it will in most Christian churches across the country.

But at West Hill on the faith’s holiest day, it will be done with a huge difference. The words “Jesus Christ” will be excised from what the congregation sings and replaced with “Glorious hope.”

Thus, it will be hope that is declared to be resurrected – an expression of renewal of optimism and the human spirit – but not Jesus, contrary to Christianity’s central tenet about the return to life on Easter morning of the crucified divine son of God.

Obama: Religious right has “hijacked” the faith

In a 30-minute speech before the national meeting of the United Church of Christ, which supports gay marriage, the Democratic presidential candidate said, “Faith got hijacked, partly because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, all too eager to exploit what divides us.” Obama said, “They’ve told Evangelical Christians that Democrats disrespect their values and dislike their church, while suggesting to the rest of the country that religious Americans care only about issues like abortion and gay marriage, school prayer and intelligent design.” Obama said a growing number of evangelicals are concerned about poverty and the environment.

Is Obama “American” enough?

…the uproar over Reverend Wright “has legs.” The consensus among the panelists was that Obama might have stanched the bleeding among Democratic primary voters but that the issue will continue to dog him in a more virulent form with questions about where his true loyalties lie. Is he American enough?

Not to be out-flanked on the left, McCain advisor Larry Eagleburger lashes out at the Religious right.

The judgement to lead

I liveblogged the Democrat debate in Ohio two weeks ago, but several statements from the previous debate in Austin, especially some comments by Sen. Obama, have stuck in my mind, kind of like an annoying jingle that just won’t go away. This is from the transcript, (source CNN)

…the question is, on the critical issues that we face right now, who’s going to show the judgment to lead? And I think that on every critical issue that we’ve seen in foreign policy over the last several years — going into Iraq originally, I didn’t just oppose it for the sake of opposing it.

I said this is going to distract us from Afghanistan; this is going to fan the flames of anti-American sentiment; it’s going to cost us billions of dollars and thousands of lives and overstretch our military. And I was right.

Obama went on to say, I was right several more times, especially regarding the war in Iraq, which he called “the most important foreign policy issue of our generation.

In March of 2003, Operation Iraqi Freedom was begun after a year of military buildup, and many UN speeches and Security Council resolutions, all of which was met with defiance by Saddam H.

Shortly thereafter, Libya initiated a dialog when it requested Britain to broker talks with the US on WMDs. A US-led naval operation in October 2003 interdicted a shipment of uranium-enrichment components bound for Libya, resulting in the seizure of thousands of uranium centrifuge parts. This seizure prompted Libya to make its pledge to dismantle weapons of mass destruction. Libya allowed US inspectors to visit weapons sites, which were more advanced than Washington previously thought.

Without the aggressive use of force in Iraq in 2003, we would now be facing a nuclear armed Libya.

afghanistan2.jpgOn Afghanistan and Pakistan, Obama said… “I’ve said very clearly that we have put all our eggs in the Musharraf basket. That was a mistake. We should be going after al Qaeda and making sure that Pakistan is serious about hunting down terrorists, as well as expanding democracy.

And I was right about that.

On the issues that have come up that a commander in chief is going to have to make decisions on, I have shown the judgment to lead.

I’m not sure where Obama would have staged the military buildup for an Afghan campaign. Pakistan was not our ally at the time. Musharraf was the only player in the theater. After the naval seizure of the Libyan nuclear shipment, and responding to mounting US pressure, Musharraf began two months of investigations which concluded that two of Pakistan’s top nuclear scientists, A.Q. Khan and Mohammed Farooq had supplied sensitive technology to Iran and Libya and North Korea through a black market based in Dubai.

Without the aggressive use of force in Iraq in 2003, the A.Q. Khan network would have continued supplying nuclear weapons technology to our enemies.

And, without the aggressive use of force in 2003, Saddam H. would have continued to defy UN sanctions, continued to pursue WMDs, continued to reward Palestinian suicide bombers, continued to fire on coalition aircraft which were patrolling the “no-fly” zone, etc, etc, etc.

And yet, Senator Obama claims to be “right” on the most important foreign policy issue of this generation.

I know it is unrealistic to expect the media to draw him out this, but if the Republicans fail to do so, then they deserve to lose this election.

More……. I went to Walmart today and finished replacing all of the food items that the Mrs. and I donated to the food bank last month. Got to watch those expiration dates on the food items.

I also got a couple of solar-powered lanterns for $15 ea. I haven’t seen those before. I’ve been looking for a battery charger with a hand-crank to put in my emergency kit, and one that will charge a cell phone, but I haven’t found one yet. Might check e-bay.

The DHS recommends that every household maintain food and water for a week’s worth of self-sufficiency. I really can’t figure why anyone would have any less than that. Katrina’s aftermath kind of changed my thinking on doing more than just thinking about self-sufficiency, and actually doing the necessary things to fend for ourselves.

Interestingly enough, DHS has recommended that hospitals maintain sufficient supplies of food, water and meds to fend for themselves for up to 90 days. Ninety days! I dare say very few hospitals have enough storage space to keep that much food, water, and generator fuel on hand. In this day of “just in time” inventory management, it is asking a lot for our community hospitals to allocate resources to purchase that quantity of supplies. By the same token, I can’t imagine why the government would ask them to do so if there weren’t a real probability of the day coming when this type of preparation would be necessary. I told Mrs. Nuke that if 90 days was good enough for the hospital, it was good enough for us too.

My bro-in-law gave me a food dehydrator that he had in storage. I’m going to try my hand at making jerky next week. Maybe some banana chips, too. Any of y’all ever used one of these thingamajigs before?

Barack Obama’s anti-gun friends at the Joyce Foundation

I ran across an interesting blurb over at Free Republic, and I thought it was worth bringing to your attention…

The source is David Horowitz’s most excellent “Discover the Networks” website .

Beatrice Joyce Kean established the Joyce Foundation in 1948 after accumulating hundreds of millions of dollars in the lumber industry (via family-owned timberlands, plywood and saw mills, and wholesale and retail building-material distribution facilities). During her lifetime, most of Ms. Kean’s modestly small philanthropic gifts were to apolitical recipients such as hospitals and health organizations. After her death in 1972, a professional staff took control of the Foundation and began to move it toward the political left. At first, universities and cultural institutions were added to its roster of grant recipients. A few years later, radical environmentalist and conservation groups entered the picture, as eventually did organizations dedicated to social justice, prison reform, and increased funding for government and social services, particularly for minorities. A notable recent member of the Joyce Foundation’s Board of Directors was Barack Obama, who ran successfully as the Democratic candidate for an Illinois Senate seat in 2004.

Today the Joyce Foundation seeks to “suppor[t] efforts to protect the natural environment of the Great Lakes, to reduce poverty and violence in the region, and to ensure that its people have access to good schools, decent jobs, and a diverse and thriving culture.” The Foundation has six main Giving Programs toward which it directs its philanthropy:

(a) The Environmental Program funds organizations that oppose the use of land for such endeavors as logging, mining, construction, and oil exploration; many of these groups are hostile to a capitalist economic model as well. The Environmental Program warns of global warming — which it attributes largely to pollution created by industrial endeavors — and advocates the increased use of bicycles and mass transit as transportation alternatives to cars.

(b) The Anti-Gun Program seeks to drive small gun dealerships out of business by placing the firearms industry completely under consumer product health and safety oversight. It misrepresents the findings of research on gun-related deaths by failing to distinguish between gun-related deaths among inner-city gang members, where the death rates from shootings are astronomical, and gun-related deaths among members of the general population, which are relatively rare. As a result, it depicts gun violence as a national epidemic, thereby creating a perceived justification for what it hopes will be the erosion of Second Amendment rights.

Obama takes funds from lobby partners

By Jim McElhatton, Wash Times

– Sen. Barack Obama, who has refused donations from federal lobbyists and paints his Democratic presidential rival as a Washington insider for accepting their contributions, took hundreds of thousands of dollars from partners at dozens of firms that lobbied Congress in 2007.

The partners — who often share in a law firm’s overall profits — gave at least $214,000 to the Obama campaign from October through December, according to a review of Federal Election Commission records and lobbying-disclosure reports with the Senate.

Partners at the Chicago-based law firm of Kirkland Ellis LLP, which has a lobbying arm in Washington, gave Mr. Obama more than $70,000 in contributions last year. The firm represented a pharmaceuticals company and the Futures Industry Association.

Mr. Obama also has accepted tens of thousands from partners Covington & Burling, which was paid nearly a half-million dollars last year to lobby for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association, or PhRMA. None of the donations came from three partners at the firm who worked as PhRMA lobbyists.

As a rule, the Obama campaign says it won’t accept donations from PhRMA, current federally registered lobbyists, or political action committees. It does accept contributions from state lobbyists, past federal lobbyists and employees of firms that lobby Congress.

“He’s kind of saying, ‘Look, I want to distance myself from the current system,’ but he’s not saying he’s not going to take any money from anyone who employs lobbyists,” said Steven Weissman, associate director of the nonpartisan Campaign Finance Institute.

“That was a sincere gesture but it’s a gesture, it’s not a significant subtraction from his money,” he said. “Lobbyists are only a very small part of the overall campaign money, but the ones who employ these people are more important. Nobody is willing to refuse their money.”

A campaign spokesman said Mr. Obama has done more than any other candidate to push for lobbying reforms and stronger ethics, and pointed out their opponent Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s penchant for accepting lobbyist largess.

“It’s not a perfect solution to the problem but it does reaffirm a commitment that isn’t shared by Senator Clinton, who’s taken more money [from lobbyists] than any other candidate,” Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said of Mr. Obama’s policy to turn down money from current federal lobbyists.

A spokesman for the Clinton campaign said Mr. Obama’s policy lacks substance.

“When Senator Obama is out on the stump, he works hard to give the impression that he has no relationship with K Street or the special interests,” Clinton spokesman Phil Singer said yesterday. “A little research into his record, however, makes it quite clear that his claims are really just words.”

Calling BS on BO

Update2: Uncle Jimbo weighs in (via h/a)

The ABC report drops it from heinous to just ignorant. My main beef is that such a silly sounding story made it to the debate as Obama’s main point about the military. It was slanted and not an accurate portrayal, thus emphasizing his weakness for the CinC role.

Update: Jake Tapper says the story “Checks out

From last night’s debate in Austin:

BHO:

“I heard from a Army captain, who was the head of a rifle platoon, supposed to have 39 men in a rifle platoon. Ended up being sent to Afghanistan with 24, because 15 of those soldiers had been sent to Iraq. And as a consequence, they didn’t have enough ammunition; they didn’t have enough humvees.

Linkfest Haven, the Blogger's OasisThey were actually capturing Taliban weapons because it was easier to get Taliban weapons than it was for them to get properly equipped by our current commander in chief. Now that’s a consequence of bad judgment, and you know, the question is on the critical issues that we face right now who’s going to show the judgment to lead.”

This doesn’t pass the smell test with me on several levels.

First, if there were any truth to this, the media would not have hesitated to use it to bash George Bush. It would have been all over the news.

Second, some of my military readers might want to weigh in here, but, how common is it for an Army Captain to be a Platoon leader? Captains don’t lead platoons, they lead Companies.

Third, how does a under-equipped, under-supplied, half-strength platoon capture munitions, weapons and supplies from the enemy? You mean the Taliban is just handing them over?

BHO is not only revealing himself to be a plagiarist and a demagogue, but a liar as well.

UPDATE: more at NRO

the Obama military anecdote was absolute rubbish on so many levels. First, on his understanding of the military: Captains don’t command platoons, Second, we don’t split platoons between Iraq and Afghanistan, not even companies, battalions, or brigades. Sometimes divisions but by then you’re talking about a 12-15,000 man organization so splits make sense. Done it since WWI at that level and even below. The idea that one of the lowest level organizations in the army (a 40 person platoon) is split between a war with 40,000 troops in it and another war with 120,000 is beyond silly. If Clinton knew better herself, she could have slammed him for knowing nothing about the military, but she’s not in much better shape there herself.

As for the substance, absolute crap. Lots of things happen in a complex theater like Afghanistan but I don’t know anybody who has heard anything even close to that story in 6.5 years military involvement there.

Showdown in Austin

hillaryobama.jpgAUSTIN, Texas (CNN)It’s showdown time in Texas.

The Democratic race was very different when the candidates debated three weeks ago.

Sens. Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois will face off in a Democratic presidential debate in Austin Thursday.

The debate, to be held on the campus of the University of Texas, will air live on CNN.

If words are as important as candidate Obama asserts, hopefully the CNN mods will take advantage of this historic opportunity to focus less on the ‘horse-race’ and the campaign rhetoric, and more on finding out what the candidates really mean.

Betsy McCaughey, former Lt Gov of New York, has penned several interesting questions regarding one of the major issues in the Democratic primary — universal healthcare.

1) Sen. Clinton: When you pledge to cover every one of the 47 million uninsured, do you include recent and future newcomers to the United States, legal and illegal?

2) Sen. Obama: You have said that you will require all parents to have health insurance for their children. What will you do to enforce this law?

3) Sen. Clinton: a question about young adults. They think of themselves as invincible and are not apt to buy insurance. Your “mandate” would force them to do so, and more than that, to pay the same premium as middle aged people whose health care needs generally are much greater. You defend the one-price rule as “shared responsibility,” but isn’t it an unjust, hidden tax on the younger generation?

4) Sen. Obama: You have pledged to make health insurance “affordable.” Texas lawmakers have made insurance less affordable by requiring that every plan include in vitro fertilization, acupuncture, marriage counseling and some 50 other features. This is like passing a law saying that the only car you’re permitted to buy is a fully loaded luxury sedan.

Would you allow Texans (and all of us who live in states with similarly costly insurance requirements) to shop for cheaper insurance outside our own state?

5) Sen. Clinton: You promise that “everyone who is already insured will be able to keep the coverage they have today.” Yet your proposal says all health plans must cover services “experts deem necessary.”

About 4.5 million people have high-deductible insurance, because it costs less and allows them to make their own decisions about where and when to get medical care. But when Massachusetts passed mandatory health insurance, people with high-deductible plans were forced to switch to more expensive medical policies to meet that state’s definition of insurance.

Will that also happen under your proposal?

6) Sens. Obama and Clinton: Some doctors and hospitals are worried about your plans to make electronic record-keeping compulsory. What will be the penalty for a doctor who doesn’t get computerized?

7) Sens. Obama and Clinton: Both your proposals call for limits on the profit margins of insurance companies. Attacking the most unpopular industry in America may sound politically attractive, but if profit margins are legally capped, investors will flee to other industries and private insurance could become a thing of the past. That would leave only a government-run health-care system.

Do you believe the nation should take that risk?

Deep Thoughts, by Chicago Sun-Times

What would be the result of an Obama presidency?

Well for one thing, multiple murders on college campuses would become a thing of the past. In fact, it is the lack of the kind of ‘hope’ that Obamessiah brings to the world that causes seemingly normal people to go off their meds and go on shooting rampages. Or so says Mary Mitchell in the Chicago Sun-Times

obamanose.jpgIf you’re wondering why Sen. Barack Obama’s message of hope has resonated with so many voters across the country, consider the shooting rampage at Northern Illinois University. […]

Like many of you, I watched the televised reports on the violence feeling completely helpless, and wondering how such a horrible thing could have happened in a place where people should feel safe.

How is it that we live in a country where a young man can get his hands on four weapons, including a shotgun?

Why are people walking around armed to the teeth?

The only reason I can think of is that too many people have lost hope.

There’s more, but I think you get the gist.

The Dems are in sad shape. They are willing to put the full weight of their collective and individual futures on the hope of one man, seemingly convinced that the power to change their lives will originate in and emanate from Washington, D.C.

Update: David Brooks asks, “What will happen when the magic fades?”

…They know that most of his hope-mongering is vaporous. They know that he knows it’s vaporous.

I hope they know. But then, we are talking about Democrats. And as we know, with the Left, thoughts never get in the way of a good feeling.

Is it imitation, or is it plagiarism? Here are the videos. You be the judge.

There isn’t any doubt in my mind that Senator Gravitas riped off Gov Deval’s speech.

Letter To The Editor!

Obamamania and the Liberals

I have a theory as to why the MSM and the liberal pundits are falling in love with Obama (Chris Matthews recently had a “Thrill go up his leg” while listening to Obama). Obama’s speeches remind me of the sermons given by a preacher at one of those mega churches. They give feel good sermons using words like change and hope. Now a lot of conservatives go to church on a regular basis and they hear oratory like Obama gives all the time and they wonder what all the fuss is about. A lot of liberals on the other hand don’t go to church and they have never heard “sermons” like this before and it really affects them emotionally. I just hope once the two parties have chosen their candidates (More than likely Obama and McCain) we can get down to more substance and less emotion.

All I can add to this letter is…AMEN, BROTHER!

Daniel Ortega endorses Senator Gravitas

from AP…

MANAGUA, Nicaragua: President Daniel Ortega, who led the 1979 revolution in Nicaragua, says Barack Obama’s presidential bid is a “revolutionary” phenomenon in the United States.

“It’s not to say that there is already a revolution under way in the U.S. … but yes, they are laying the foundations for a revolutionary change,” the Sandinista leader said Wednesday night as he accepted an honorary doctorate from an engineering university.

Ortega led a Soviet-backed government that battled U.S.-supported Contra rebels before he lost power in a 1990 election. He returned to office last year via the ballot box.

In statements broadcast on Sandinista Radio La Primerisima, Ortega said he has “faith in God and in the North American people, and above all in the youth, that the moment of great change in the U.S. will come and it will act differently, with justice and equality toward all nations.”

Wonderful. Just wonderful. Is this the “change” that Senator Gravitas wants to bring?
