Judicial News Monday

First up, The US Supreme Court has ruled in the Ricci discrimination case…. reversing the lower court, and finding in favor of Ricci.  The lower court included current SCOTUS nominee Sonia Sotomayor.

Second, from the Federal Courthouse in the Southern District of New York, Bernie Madoff is sentenced to 150 years, which is the statutory maximum sentence.  Might as well say, Madoff is sentenced to death in prison.

Would a wise Latina pick Sotomayor for the Supreme Court?

Apparently not, according to Scott Ott:

(2009-06-05) — Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor said today that “if President Obama were a wise Latina woman, with the richness of her experiences, he would have picked a less controversial court nominee.”

Judge Sotomayor said she doesn’t blame the president for his unwise choice, “after all, as a black male, he can’t be expected to demonstrate much more wisdom than he has so far. He’s certainly sharper than a white male, but the fact remains that he’s male, and has no discernible Latino heritage.” [snip]

President Obama said he would not comment further on the controversy, “since matching wits with a Latina woman is above my pay grade.”

Heh™ Nobody does it like Scrappleface.
(I’m still chuckling about the Kerry-Smart video).

This is the World Famous Friday Open Thread: A wise, smart, free-speech zone.

WFFOT: The interesting thing about being wise and being smart is that you can add a three letter word to each of them and come up with a synonym for “audacious” (a word which coincidently was used to decribe BHO).

And, just in case your remorse hasn’t kicked into high gear yet, and you don’t feel badly enough for pointing out Sonia’s ethnic boasting, and the hypocrisy of the PC crowd, trot on over to TPM and read the guilt-fest by Rowan Wolf.

Sotomayor is toast

Update:  Foxnews — the wise latina remarks are “far from isolated’

Breaking over at Greg Sargent’s blog …

Sotomayor Made Same “Wise Woman” Speech In 1990s — And No One Objected

I’ve just obtained a speech that Sonia Sotomayor gave in 1994, in which she made a comment virtually identical to the “wise Latina” one from 2001 that has generated so much controversy.

And though the 1994 speech was disclosed to Republican Senators as part of her confirmation for Court of Appeals in 1998, there’s no sign that anyone objected to it in any way.

Greg believes that the existence of this previously disclosed speech suggests “that the comments are not as controversial as her critics claim.”

As much as I would have rather seen this information come out during direct questioning in the confirmation hearings, I have to disagree with Sargent’s assertion.

First, the disclosure was made prior to her confirmation hearings in 1998 for the Court of Appeals, not for a spot on the Club of Nine. Big difference.

But more importantly, this revelation absolutely smashes and destroys the “she misspoke” defense offered up by President Obama, WH Spokesman Robert Gibbs, and NBC reporter Brian Williams.

The Sotomayor nomination has just crashed and burned.

The Latino KKK?

Blogger Allahpundit draws a distinction between La Raza and MEChA in an attempt to discredit Tom Trancredo’s assertion that La Raza is “the Latino KKK” … link

But, as the late Rep. Charlie Norwood noted in a Human Events article in 2006,

Members of these radical, anti-American, racist organizations are frequently smoothly polished into public respectability by the National Council of La Raza….

The National Council of La Raza and its allies in public office make no repudiation of the radical MEChA and its positions. In fact, as recently as 2003, La Raza was actively funding MEChA, according to federal tax records.

And, as we’ve noted previously, the anti-American, racist bigotry is alive and well on college campuses across the nation, whether it comes from the MexicaMovement, or MECha, or any of the allied groups given a  sheen of  respectability by federally supported organizations like La Raza.

Just ask Lou Dobbs …

Links: Mexica Movement; La Raza; MEChA

Neocon Latina reminds us, then-candidate Obama was all for firing Don Imus for a lame racial joke.
