My plans for the weekend are to:
1) Till up my garden spot: I got me a very cool front-tine tiller from the building supply store. Gotta put it together, first. The spot is picked out, well-drained, sunlight for over 1/2 the day.
2) Go by the bargain barn and pick up some used windows for my greenhouse. I’m going to go ahead and lay in the materials that I need to build it. If our house doesn’t sell in the next month, I’m going to take it off the market, and build the greenhouse here.
3) Turn the compost heap.
4) Clean out the garage.
I was telling Mrs. Nuke about my plans for becoming a backyard vegetable engineer, especially since Doc told me I have to make some serious diet and lifestyle changes, and she just smiled and started singing this song. She is somehow convinced that I’m going through a mid-life crisis, but she doesn’t seem to mind too much.
She says it’s a heckuva lot cheaper than a sports car.

Is that one of those Mantis tillers, Nuke? Lemme know how it works. I need to redo the beds that used to have shrubberies and flowers but, thanks to the sheep, just contain some nibbled on weeds. I can’t manhandle a big tiller around at the moment.
For gardening, I prefer raised bed gardening a la Mel Bartholomew.
Less work, bigger yield in smaller space. Whatta deal.
I’m going to bookmark that site.
I guess I got my mid-life crisis over with when I was a kid working in the garden.
Now I just want sport cars.
If you have limited space to garden, that’s the way to go. If you have several acres to sprawl over, well, the traditional row method will work.
For women, the middle aged crisis thing seems to take the form of a gigantic pair of puffy lips not found in nature.
What is up with that?
Maybe it’s because the insurance costs are far more reasonable.
I checked out Mel’s book(s) in the library and, after reading them, decided to buy them so I could refer to them frequently.
Good luck on the garage cleaning out. SwampMan cleaned out the garage a few weeks ago. I’m still going out there, coming back in, and saying things like “Okay, WHERE did you put my neoprene gloves, concrete mixing tub, clothesline, etc.”
SwampMan works under the premise that his old busted tools are antique treasures, whereas the things that I actually USE are trash.
What?

Henh…the car he was going to sponsor, but now he’s not, has had nothing but a poor showing for years, and would have had to qualify on speed to even get in the race.
