Socrates Academy: the inescapable logic of global warming.

But what if AGW activists are only partially right? That is, what if something we’re doing is causing global warming, but the gases we are trying to limit are not it? Or, if the current temperature increase is part of some natural cycle, and we act, then when the climate cools on its own, cum hoc ergo propter hoc will have struck again, in reverse, and we will be left in awe at the shaman whose incantations caused the Sun to go dim at noon.

We also don’t know that warmer temperatures will be bad for humans. Warmer temperatures would seem to complicate the lives of polar bears and coral, but there is a link missing between those complications and radically changing the world economy, when it is quite possible that the warmer temperatures would improve live for humans and other life forms. It could, in fact, dramatically simplify life for humans in climates formerly too cold to inhabit; polar bears might adapt to life without ice; and coral might just grow in seas currently too cold for it.

I do not fault any who accept the opinion of experts that AGW is real. Nor do I fault the scientists, far more able than I, who judge that CO2 levels are to blame for higher temperatures. And since they accept those premises, actively trying to avert a possible disaster is understandable.

However, the links have not been properly made. In a controversy, the side seeking change from the status quo should be able to prove its case. AGW proponents need not show that the Earth is warming, which basically everyone accepts, or even that man is the cause of the warming, which many do not. But it must be shown that human action is both necessary and sufficient to fix global warming, and that the probable benefits to mankind outweigh the costs. Since what is at stake is so drastic, I demand greater proof than has been thus far offered.

Artifact: A Chilling Tale of Global Warming

I posted an article the other day from NASA. They reported that evidence of global warming on MARS could be conclusively seen from photographs. Mars! If anything, doesn’t this point to solar activity rather than carbon emissions as the cause of this gaiaist inspired apocalyptic circle jerk? And now, the UN weighs in, again.

The United Nations has ventured into children’s publishing with a scary story about a small boy who loses a dogsled race because of global warming. In November the odd little picture book cum policy brief, Tore and the Town on Thin Ice, made the rounds at the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Kenya.

The night after he loses the race by falling through a weak place in the ice, Tore has a dream in which he sees the Inuit goddess Sedna, who warns him that “rich countries use—and waste—an awful lot of energy. Huge cars. Too many cars instead of efficient trains and buses.” The animal kingdom comes out in full force with some nightmarish warnings of its own. A snowy owl tells Tore winning dogsled races “might not be your top worry” soon, since “some people who hunt for a living are already going hungry because a lot of seals and walruses are heading north.” A polar bear moans that he is starving, and then—when Tore gets upset—a whale calls to him: “That’s the spirit! Get good and angry. You’ll need all that energy to make a difference.”

Tore awakes, furious and full of resolve to build solar panels and to nag his parents about their gasoline consumption—the United Nations’ idea of a happy ending

New Anti-Terrorism Caucus Formed in U.S. House

A good idea, in theory. But where are you going to find a democrat with a backbone?

Today at a press conference in the U.S. Capitol, U.S. Representative Sue Myrick (R-NC), along with Representatives Bud Cramer (D-AL), Kay Granger (R-TX), and Ben Chandler (D-KY) formally announced they have formed a new bipartisan Congressional Anti-Terrorism Caucus. Myrick, Cramer, Granger, and Chandler are the co-chairs of the new caucus.

The Caucus mission statement states that it “serves to educate Members of Congress, their staff and the general public about the threats to our country that are fueled by extremist ideologies. The Caucus recognizes that terrorism is not a Democrat or Republican problem; it is a critical issue for all Americans. To this end, the Caucus will facilitate an educational process and healthy exchange of ideas in a bipartisan setting.”

Focus on the threat from “extremist ideologies” is much-needed and long-overdue. The new Caucus will meet in the coming months to hear from leading experts on issues such as terrorist financing and their use of the internet.

Plot to Kidnap, Torture and Behead Muslim Soldier Live on the Web Foiled

Security services said today that they had foiled a suspected plot to kidnap and torture a British Muslim soldier recently returned from service abroad before beheading him live on the internet.

Eight men were arrested in a series of dawn raids at 12 addresses in Birmingham. John Reid, the Home Secretary, has been informed of the arrests and is receiving regular updates about the operation.

Security sources said that the carefully planned operation had averted the alleged plan to kill the soldier, which was in its later stages.

The sources said that the alleged plotters planned to force their victim to plead for his life in online videos before torturing him and executing him much as Ken Bigley, the Liverpool hostage, was killed in Iraq in October 2004. The beheading would have been shown live on an extremist website.

Can Islam get any more depraved? Answer – probably yes.

I finally found a link to Jihad Jane Fonda’s over the top remarks regarding the US withdrawal from Vietnam, and the ensuing massacre of South Vietnamese and Cambodians: ( BOR Talking points memo )

What do you think about what happened to the three million Vietnamese and Cambodians who died after the U.S. troops left Vietnam?

FONDA: It’s too bad that we caused it to happen by going in there in the first place.

The remembrances of the Cambodian killing fields are to many people reduced to photos of neatly stacked bones and skulls for the records of posterity. For the survivors, it is much more. But, being yellow-skinned, and half-way around the world, it is too simple for limousine liberals like Ms. Fonda to dismiss them outright, or even blame the deaths on the government of the US.

If there can be one more call for “never again”, let it be now, as Jihad Jane and her anti-war amigos seek another unintended massacre in Iraq.

No, Jane. Hell no, we won’t go.

‘Global war curriculum’ seen in Iran’s schools

With Tehran accused of seeking to develop a nuclear weapons arsenal and the United States dispatching a second aircraft carrier to the Gulf, the report by the Center for Monitoring the Impact of Peace highlights the uphill task Washington faces trying to persuade Iranian youth to distance themselves from the hard-line Islamist regime.

The study, which claims to be the first of its kind, catalogs how pupils as young as 9 are conditioned to take part in a global jihad against such “infidel oppressors” as Israel and the United States.

Remembering the Zebra Killings

I read this pre-9/11 Frontpagemag article for the first time about a year ago.

I’ve read it several times since.

I was 18 years old when the Zebra killers were terrorizing (white) residents of San Francisco, and my recollections are vague and incomplete. But you would think that more would have been written over the years in memory of the victims who died at the hands of the Nation of Islam.

MOST SERIAL KILLINGS in America take on a life of their own through movies, books and documentaries. The crimes of Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer and The Son of Sam are still well remembered years after they were committed. Yet there is one set of serial killings that has been almost completely forgotten and is rarely mentioned in popular culture.

The Zebra Killings occurred in the San Francisco bay area between 1972 and 1974 and left 71 people dead. They were dubbed the Zebra Killings because of the radio channel used by the police investigating the case (channel Z).

The name would take on a more sinister meaning as it became apparent that a group of blacks was systematically stalking and killing whites simply because of the color of their skin.

Zebra (1979) was written by crime writer Clark Howard and remains the definitive book on the murders. Using court records, police reports, witnesses and interviews with the killers themselves, Howard was able to piece together the horrid details of the murders and the unrelenting hatred that inspired the killers.

The majority of the attacks were carried out by five members of a group within Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam called the “Death Angels.” Jesse Lee Cooks, J.C. Simon, Larry Green, Manuel Moore and Anthony Harris were part of this group which believed that whites were created 3,000 years ago by a black mad scientist named Yacub who wanted a race of inferiors to rule over. Death Angels believed they could earn “points” towards going to heaven when they died if they killed whites. For them, whites were not human beings but “grafted snakes,” “blue-eyed devils” and “white motherf—–s.”

Howard describes the vicious and cowardly nature of the attacks, which were made at gunpoint and mostly carried out against women and weak or old men who could not fight back. The first victims in San Francisco were a couple named Richard and Quita Hague. The Hagues were out for an after dinner walk when they were abducted at gunpoint and forced into a van. They were bound and Richard was beaten over the head with a lug wrench and knocked unconscious. Quita was sexually molested and hacked with a machete. While begging for her life she was decapitated. Before leaving, the attackers hacked at the face of the still unconscious man. Miraculously, he survived and was able to give valuable information to the police.

Brutality and a lack of remorse on the part of the criminals mark the attacks. Vincent Wollin was shot in the back and killed on his 69^th birthday. Mildred Hosler, an obese, older woman was shot while frantically trying to get away from her younger, faster attacker. Ilario Bertucci, a 135-pound, 81-year-old man, was killed while walking home from work. Marietta DiGirolamo, a 5’1″ white woman was shot and killed on her way to a neighborhood bar. In none of these cases did the victims do anything to provoke the murderers. They simply had white skin and were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

There were even some high profile victims. Art Agnos, who would later go on to become mayor of San Francisco, was shot and almost killed by the Death Angels. A member of the California Commission on Aging, Agnos was attending a community meeting in a black neighborhood to discuss building a government funded health clinic in the area. In the same neighborhood the killers were hunting for whites. As the meeting let out, Agnos stopped to talk with two women. One of the killers came up behind him and shot him twice in the back. The bullets ripped apart his lungs, spleen and kidneys. Bystanders called an ambulance and Agnos barely survived.

I’m not a frequent viewer of Bill O’Reilly, but his lead-in promo got my attention. A reporter was asking Jihad Jane Fonda about the millions of South Vietnamese and Cambodian deaths at the hands of the Communists after the US withdrawal. True to form, J.J. responded that the US “shouldn’t have forced the North Vietnamese to kill them by going there in the first place.”

I kid you not.

Grim Milestone Alert

Some time late tonight or tomorrow, the 5,000,000^th unborn American child will have been killed since the start of the Iraq War by Big Abortion.

You may have noticed this counter in the sidebar. This is one milestone that the death cult Democrats will celebrate as a measure of how far women have come in their efforts to be fully liberated.

Mary Landrieu hits bottom, keeps digging

Louisiana Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu had harsh words for the federal government on the eve of hearings into the progress of rebuilding the Gulf Coast following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Landrieu blamed the government for much of the devastation caused by Katrina and for the slow pace of recovery in Louisiana.

“I often think we would have been better off if the terrorists had blown up our levees,” she said. “Maybe we’d have gotten more attention.”

Landrieu also had strong words for many people in Washington who, she says, unfairly portrays Louisiana as the nation’s most corrupt state.

“Mississippi is actually the most corrupt state in the Union, but you never hear that, because there’s some political undertones about having Mississippi look so good and having Louisiana not look so good at the national level,” she said, echoing a theme put forth the past week by Governor Kathleen Blanco, who said that Mississippi received more aid because its governor is a Republican

The Center For The Intrepid Is Dedicated Today.

This facility is remarkable in many ways. First of all, it is referred to as a ‘state-of-the-world’ facility, due to the services provided in this 60,000 square foot structure, which will serve catastrophically injured service members, from all branches of the military, from present and previous conflicts.
Secondly, it is the largest and most expensive facility for our wounded heroes ever constructed with all monies coming from private donations only, at a cost of Fifty million dollars.
In addition to the dedication of this facility, two new adjoining 21 room Fisher Houses will be dedicated.
Many might think this is a wonderful story of so many giving freely for a worthy cause, to show our support, and give thanks to those who have sacrificed so much for our nation. Or an excellent example of the private sector getting things done without government involvement, waste, or delay.
Sadly, that isn’t the case, as it is to be used by pundits and politicians on this day, for more than a celebration of giving, but for political opportunism. Some of the attendees for today’s gala event include, Senator Clinton, Senator McCain, actor Denzel Washington(major contributor to the Fisher House Foundation), and major BDS infected moonbats John Mellencamp and Rosie O’Donnell, with some other well known citizens possibly attending. To illustrate the leftist’s view of private donations, and not public funds, being used for such a worthy cause, we only need to turn to longtime leftard strategist, and Clintoon lacky, Paul Begala, to see what their position is.

“It is an obscenity that a government that can find billions in no-bid contracts for Halliburton and trillions in tax cuts for the wealthy cannot find a few million dollars to bind up the wounds of its heroes,” he said.

While this statement, and some of the other critics statements don’t surprise me, it does disappoint me to know those on the left I disagree with, will never relent in their attempt to diminish any event that we should all find cause to celebrate.
That’s fine, I know who they are and what they represent. They will never stop me from fighting back, celebrating our history of freedom and liberty, and resisting being led by a group of self-annointed elitists.
On the other side of that coin, there are others that view this new facility much differently, such as VA Secretary Jim Nicholson:

This is just another notch up. I think it speaks volumes about the care and concern people in America have for young men and women who raise their hands, take an oath and go off to war.

I for one, am filled with pride, that so many wonderful citizens of this wonderful country, have donated so freely to such a worthy cause.

How Do We Define A ‘Muscular Liberal?’

I came across this term by accident and it was new to me, so forgive me if I’m a bit slow and please accept some responsibility for not informing me(nyah!).
You know how it is, you go to a favorite blog or website, find something interesting, click on a link and the next thing you know you have clicked on a dozen different links since the first and you have all of these open windows, only now you have more questions than before. That’s what happened this afternoon.

I don’t even remember where I came across the term ‘muscular liberal,’ but I’m certain it was in a discussion of Senator Webb’s absurd response to President Bush’s SOTU address this past Tuesday night. The image that first appeared in my mind when I saw the term was a Chippindale’s dancer with a ‘stop the war’ bumper sticker applied to conceal a portion of his male anatomy, or of the Village People singing a jingle for LA Fitness centers, but I quickly chuckled and moved on, as I was now intrigued with this notion of a suddenly physically intimidating liberal presence.
I found some good articles and blog posts that attempt to explain it. Such as this one at Never Trust A Hippy, which is admittedly an alternative definition.

One example I’ve been given is a rejection of the cultural relativism that says that we shouldn’t be so imperious as to criticise limb-amputation or the stoning of adulterous women – especially after what we’ve done to the rainforests.
Another argument is related to the war in Iraq. Do liberal democracies have a right or an obligation to impose democracy on dictatorships?
So, another definition of ‘muscular liberal’ for you to chew on. One that says “if you don’t vote, don’t bitch.” And, on the day after an election, one that says “OK. So you lost. Get over it!”

I found this one informative, but not satisfactory. So I continued in my search and came across an article in Family Security Matters by Ben Shapiro, an extremely bright contributor who at the age of 22 is in his third year of Harvard Law and has already written two books. When I saw he had posted the article, Webb of Venom, I was hopeful it could explain, definitively, what a ‘muscular liberal’ is.

But this is what today’s liberals call “muscular liberalism.” Commentators on the left raved about Webb’s speech. Though Webb called for a “new direction” in Iraq, he offered not a single practical word about how to tackle the situation on the ground.
What, then, makes Webb a “muscular liberal”? His absolute loathing for President Bush. Democrats believe that it takes more courage to obstruct President Bush and Republicans than to fight Islamism. Webb offered nothing but vitriol, and Democrats lapped it up.

That seemed to help, but a Funk-Wagnall definition it wasn’t, just informative. So I muddled on and came across an article at WorldNetDaily by David Limbaugh, The Democrats’ ‘muscular liberal’. Eureka! Here’s the answer, at last…but wait…

Enter James Webb. Who better to square a circle than a man whose resume contains at least two oxymorons: He’s a “conservative Democrat” and a “muscular liberal”?
No less a liberal than Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter gushed over Webb’s SOTU rebuttal, writing, “Virginia Sen. James Webb managed to convey a muscular liberalism – with personal touches – that left President Bush’s ordinary address in the dust.”

Good grief! They are tossing this term around as though it has been a part of our lexicon since Thomas Jefferson. Therefore, I must draw some conclusions on what I’ve learned and hope our dear readers here can provide a qualified, bona fide definition.

Based on the info I have presented, it appears that to be qualified as a ‘muscular liberal’ one must oppose not only the fight in Iraq, but the GWOT in it’s entirety; any plans by President Bush to seek victory in the GWOT and not have any viable alternative plans to replace those already in action, while using their BDS base to give them encouragement as obstructive appeasers, knowing that when the GWOT comes home with our troops they will be able to blame it all on President Bush, anyway.

I can’t accept that as a definition, or as a run-on sentence, just as an explanation. Here’s my simplest definition for the term in question. It’s just another self-adoring term the lefturds can use to make themselves feel better about being weak and worthless, when there is a war to be won.

Muslim Doctor’s Leader: “Don’t Vaccinate Your Children”

A MUSLIM doctors’ leader has provoked an outcry by urging British Muslims not to vaccinate their children against diseases such as measles, mumps and rubella because it is “un-Islamic”. Dr Abdul Majid Katme, head of the Islamic Medical Association, is telling Muslims that almost all vaccines contain products derived from animal and human tissue, which make them “haram”, or unlawful for Muslims to take.
Islam permits only the consumption of halal products, where the animal has had its throat cut and bled to death while God’s name is invoked.

Katme, a psychiatrist who has worked in the National Health Service for 15 years, wields influence as the head of one of only two national Islamic medical organisations as well as being a member of the Muslim Council of Britain. Moderate Muslims are concerned at the potential impact because other Islamic doctors will have to confirm vaccines are derived from animal and human products.

In Nigeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and parts of India, Muslims have refused to be immunised against polio after being told that the vaccines contain products that the West has deliberately added to make the recipients infertile.

“Many vaccines, especially those given to children, are full of haram substances — human parts, gelatine from pork, alcohol, animal/monkey parts, all coming from the West who do not have knowledge of halal or haram. It is forbidden in Islam to have any of these haram substances in our bodies.”

Global Warming Is Real!

And it’s happening on Mars…………………..

NASA scientists are reporting that the climate on Mars appears to presently be warmer than it has been for at least several decades, possibly even centuries. This is based on pictures of Mars dating back to 1999. These images document substantial changes in the polar ice caps that Michael Malin, the principal investigator for the Mars Orbiter Camera describes as shrinking at “a prodigious rate”…..

Schilling could be John Kerry’s opponent in 2008 senate race

BOSTON — A pitch for Red Sox ace Curt Schilling to replace John Kerry in the U.S. Senate.

Today’s Boston Herald reports there’s a move to draft Schilling as Kerry’s opponent in the 2008 senate race.

An online poll of 800 voters has Schilling leading Kerry by 96 percent.

What is a patriotic terrorist?

It is an American who claims to love his or her country while enjoying the enemy’s success against said country. It is a person who gets deeply offended if you question their patriotism, while also appearing to share the same ideals of the more spirited folk who like to blow up innocent people.

Patriotic terrorists love America with so much intensity that it appears to the untrained eye that they hate it. But it’s actually the most powerful form of “tough love” known to man, woman and Rosie O’Donnell. Patriotic terrorists love America so much that they realize it needs an intervention – and real terror is the only way to enable that intervention. In fact, to keep a mammoth, arrogant superpower like America in check, terrorism is the only thing we’ve got. Noam Chomsky knew this from the start, making him a patriotic terrorist of the highest order.

A Boost For Hydrogen Fuel Cell Research

 

Science Daily — The development of hydrogen fuel cells for vehicles, the ultimate green dream in transportation energy, is another step closer. Researchers with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) have identified a new variation of a familiar platinum-nickel alloy that is far and away the most active oxygen-reducing catalyst ever reported.

AFP: Iran employs 32000 agents in Iraq

President Bush’s newly announced “kill or capture” policy with regards to Iranian operatives in Iraq will yield a significant number of potential targets, according to the main exiled Iranian opposition group.

Agence France Presse, Berlin – The main exiled Iranian opposition group published a list of nearly 32,000 Iraqis who it said were “agents of the mullahs” employed by Iran to destabilize its neighbor.

At a news conference in Berlin, the spokesman of the German chapter of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), Javad Dabiran, also accused the Islamic republic of “sending millions of dollars in cash to Iraq each month” as well as arms.

Dabiran said the agents were employed by the Qods force, which is affiliated with Iran’s elite ideological army, the Revolutionary Guards.

He said the NCRI had obtained the list of 31,690 members, which only included people “directly enlisted by the Qods force in Iran”.

The document includes the name of each fighter in Arabic and Farsi, his bank account number and the amount he received in each month in rials, Dabiran said

Canadian Muslim MP not Muslim enough for islamists

Canadian Muslim organizations criticized a Muslim legislator for a fact-finding mission to Israel that he undertook at the prime minister’s request.

The leaders of the Canadian Arab Federation and the Canadian Islamic Congress issued a joint statement mocking the competence of Wajid Khan — a former pilot in the Pakistan Air Force and presently a member of Canada’s Parliament — and demanding his resignation.
