Rest in Peace, Noel Sheppard

Writing at Newsbusters, Brent Bozell remarks on the passing of Noel Sheppard. He will be sorely missed.

Our Noel Sheppard passed away yesterday (Friday) morning at about 5:00 AM. Say a prayer for the soul of a man we’ll all miss professionally, and many, many of us will miss personally as well. Noel was not just a force of nature, he was a very good man.

sheppardHow quickly this all happened. Just two months ago, Noel wrote about suddenly getting cancer at 53 called “Cancer’s Ray of Hope.” Nine days ago, he wrote us and said he was interested in writing about his “progress” — and he put “progress” in quotes. We were all wishing for better news, and really couldn’t imagine this was a battle that would end this way.

Noel joined us and was introduced to us by Matt Sheffield at the founding of NewsBusters in 2005, and he became our Associate Editor. It must be said that no blogger here was more prolific and more popular. We’ll have more to say in the coming days.

Requiescat in pace.

EXECUTION WATCH: Anthony Dewayne Doyle (TX)*Updated*

doyle

Anthony D. Doyle

Hyun Mi Cho

*Thug: Anthony Dewayne Doyle (18 at time of crime)
*Date of execution: 27 Mar 14
*Victim: Hyun Mi Cho (female, age 37)
*Last meal: TBD, same shit salad served other inmates.*UPDATE* For his last meal, Doyle had a chicken patty, mashed potatoes with country gravy, navy beans, mixed vegetables, sliced bread, and he had a choice of tea, punch, or water to drink.(per Last Suppers)
*Final Words: TBD. In an undated comment Doyle stated “Everyone messes up from time to time but it takes a real man to admit his wrong doings and accept the consequences.” We shall see if he owns up to his alleged manliness.***UPDATE***: Anthony Doyle shook his head and said nothing inside the death chamber in Huntsville when a warden asked if he had a statement to make.(per Pro-Death Penalty)
No words and no remorse.

This scheduled execution has me thoroughly perplexed due to the fact that I can find no images or personal history of Hyun Cho. Including Doyle’s image and history is a disservice to the victim with the absence of her story. I can’t show her image, I can’t disclose if she was married or not, if she had children or any information about her parents or possible siblings.

*UPDATE* A shred of info on Ms. Cho is mentioned in a Grazyck piece from yesterday:”Cho, 37, had been in the U.S. about two years and was earning money to care for her ill parents in South Korea, according to Cho’s sister, who operated two doughnut shops.”
**UPDATE** Found an image of Hyun Mi Cho.

I can only discuss the brutal murder of an innocent woman who was simply working for a living when she had the misfortune of encountering Doyle.

Ms. Cho was delivering a dozen donuts and a dozen breakfast burritos to Doyle’s mother’s house, where Doyle was waiting with an aluminum baseball bat to rob Cho. When Cho informed Doyle she had no money, he struck her twice in the head with the bat and with assistance, stuffed her body in a large rolling trash can. Doyle made an attempt to hide the blood stains and splatters from his crime then proceeded to take Cho’s car, cellphone and credit cards.

The above hyperlink on Doyle’s name gives a brief synopsis of the crime, but in a ten page statement from Doyle we get a better idea of the brutality, callousness and perverse nature of Doyle.

When Cho informed Doyle that she did not have any money, Doyle writes, “I struck her in the head two times… after the second strike, I realized what I was doing and that I had really screwed up badly, so I dropped the bat and started to clean up the blood.”

Doyle told police that a friend arrived shortly after the attack. That friend, Doyle says, helped him remove the body from the house. “He then went outside and got our big green trash bin,” Doyle admits, “(he) brought it into the kitchen area and turned it on its side and shoved the lady into the bin. I then helped him sit the garbage bin upright. When I looked into the bin, the woman looked as if she were breathing, and she also moved her arms as if she were trying to get up.”

Doyle deserves the ‘tortures of the damned’ for his actions.

All of Doyle’s appeals appear to have been used up all the way to the USSC, though an attorney issued another motion to the U.S. 5th CCA on 21 Mar. I expect that Doyle will have his manliness tested come 6p.m. 27 Mar 14.

I do regret to you the readers for being unable to find any information or an image for Ms. Cho. She deserves recognition and to be acknowledged as more than a footnote to Doyle’s criminal behavior.

EXECUTION WATCH: Ray Jasper (TX)*Updated*

David Alejandro

*Thug: Ray Jasper (19 at time of offense)
*Date of Execution:March 19, 2014
*Date of Crime: November 29, 1998
*Victim: David Alejandro(33)
*Last Meal: Same shit salad served to inmates that day. *UPDATE*: For his last meal, Jasper had baked chicken, roasted potatoes, a vegetable blend, navy beans, and sliced bread. He was given a choice of tea, punch, or water to drink.(per Last Suppers Book)
*Final Words: TBD. I expect them to be self-serving. *UPDATE*: Before being put to death, Jasper spoke quietly, asking his family to “take care of each other, stay strong and faithful to God.” He also thanked his supporters and told his daughter that he loved her, adding that she “be strong, be positive, have a great life.” Jasper then asked that the “Lord God almighty in heaven Jesus Christ see my spirit.”(per Pro-Death Penalty)
No mention of the victim or remorse for his crime.

Now comes one Ray Jasper, a murderer that claims he isn’t because his cutting the throat of the victim wasn’t declared the cause of death, his accomplices twenty stab wounds were deemed the cause. A truly pathetic defense that has been lapped up by the bowl full from the hand-wringing thug lovers. He planned the crime, initiated it, offered no assistance to the man whose throat he slashed, then covered the victim so he wouldn’t have to look at him as he carried out his planned robbery.

The death penalty is intended for creatures such as this and come this Wednesday evening, Jasper will become Satan’s newest chew toy.

Jasper got some recent attention for a narcissistic, pathetic, self-serving and remorseless long winded letter which was published at numerous blogs and websites.  I won’t give it a direct link here, nor to the response from the brother of David Alejandro(Steven).  I will link to an interesting article I found in the Dallas Morning News yesterday, Stop turning death row inmates into tragic celebrities. The author isn’t my newest hero, nor is Steven Alejandro, but they are certainly more clear and direct than Jasper.

Jasper is fully and solely responsible for his pending execution, not the State of Texas.

Who is Ted Cruz?

who is ted cruz

As we noted previously, the real loser after CPAC actually won the presidential straw poll.  So, who was the big winner?  The junior senator from the Lone Star Republic.

via the cube

– When Al Gore invented the Internet, his inbox already contained three unread emails from Ted Cruz.

– Ted Cruz has a quadruple citizenship in the U.S., Canada, Middle-earth and Westeros.

– If you superimpose Ted Cruz’s fingerprints, the resulting image will be the Seal of the President of the United States.

– When Ted Cruz got bit by a rattle snake, the snake had to sign up for Obamacare but couldn’t get through the login screen and died after a week of pain and agony in front of the computer.

– Ted Cruz has already won the presidential election in 2016 with a roundhouse kick in the polls; the pollsters just haven’t developed the technology to look that far into the future.

Losing is good: Stranger Things Have Happened I Know

Dave Jolly has pulled the first upset of the 2014 election cycle in FL-13 over Democrat Alex Sink.  Pundits on the Right have begun to cautiously speak of  a bellwether victory, and a harbinger of things to come.  Optimistic talk for sure, but frankly something that ought scare the pants off Democrats (sorry for that visual).

However for Debbie Schultz, losing isn’t such a bad thing:

“Tonight, Republicans fell short of their normal margin in this district because the agenda they are offering voters has a singular focus – that a majority of voters oppose – repealing the Affordable Care Act* that would return us to the same old broken health care system,”

If this is encouraging news in a Florida district that was carried twice by Obama, then how encouraged should the Left be?  In the most recent nationwide approval ratings, Obamacare is still  20 points upside-down.

IKR?

So, is there a silver lining for the Left? I say yes, and it has nothing to do with Schultz’s hastily cobbled talking points.

The real loser here I think is Rand Paul who came out in support of Overby, the Libertarian.  In a race that was decided by less than 2 points, Paul would have had a lot of ‘splaining to do had Overby proven to be the spoiler.  Perhaps “loser” is too strong.  But, any time Republicans bicker among themselves, Dems smile, and the Leftist media machine has more ammo to try to control the next news cycle.

I fully expect to hear some comments from Ted Cruz to follow shortly, as the contest between he and Paul for the direction of the GOP continues.  I also expect those comments to be mischaracterized, as media shills continue to try and deflect the public’s attention away from President Obama’s signature achievement.

Stranger things have happened, I know.

Deniers refuse to see reality

In 1921, advertising executive Fred R. Barnard originated the phrase, “One Look Is Worth a Thousand Words”, which has evolved over the years to become “A picture is Worth a thousand words.”

Perfectly illustrated here, don’t you think? (click to enlarge)

Deniers-infringers

I’ve been tinkering around with new nick-names for the gun-grabbing crowd, and narrowed it down to 2:

1) Deniers – turning their own Gore-bull warming tactics on them.  and,

2) Infringers – as in, “What part of ‘shall not be infringed’ don’t you get?

I like ’em both.  what do y’all think?

Mississippi. Seriously.

My cousin emailed a link to this essay a few hours ago. It says so much about my home state of Mississippi, and left me feeling good! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. — Nuke

Courtesy Girl Keeps It Real

This spring, when I went out to get my beds ready for planting annuals, I discovered a pumpkin patch growing in my backyard.  Why?  Because I had thrown the remnants of a painted, carved, and otherwise desecrated jack-o-lantern back there months before and completely forgotten about it.  That’s what Mississippi mud will do for you.

The state of Mississippi is one of those places that rarely gets taken seriously.  Like other national punch line destinations—West Virginia, New Jersey, I know you feel me here—comedians and commentators across the land feel free to take our name in vain.

To a certain extent, we have it coming.  We bottom out so many lists—per capita income and education for starters—and manage to lead the nation in things like obesity, teen pregnancy, infant mortality, and number of smokers.  It’s sad, and, trust me, we know it.

I say “we” although I am not a…

Happy 178th Birthday, Texas

On this day in 1836, Texas declared itself a free and sovereign nation.

For the following ten history filled years until it was annexed by the U.S. Government, Texas fought for its freedom and liberty beginning with an historic slogan directed at the Mexican Government.

Gonzales Battle Flag

Our finest U.S. Senator(soon to be the Senior Senator from Texas), Ted Cruz, issued a statement for the occasion.  As always, Sen. Cruz was clear and precise.

“Courage and a love of liberty have long been defining characteristics of the Texas spirit. Both were exemplified 178 years ago when fifty-nine delegates convened in Independence Hall at Washington-on-the-Brazos to declare Texas’ independence.

“Inflamed by General Santa Anna’s refusal to abide by the Mexican Constitution of 1824 and inspired by the United States’ first Declaration of Independence, the men produced their own Declaration and resolved ‘that the people of Texas do now constitute a free, Sovereign, and independent republic.’

“The same love of ‘life, liberty, and property of the people’ that spurred the Texians at the Alamo and throughout the Revolution still lives in each Texan today. They fought for it. They died for it. We owe it to their sacrifice to carry the torch of freedom for future generations. And we will.

“Keep that resolve strong and when anyone threatens our liberties, proudly say, as only a Texan can, ‘come and take it!’”

For long time or life long Texians these words are instilled early on and accepted without question, as evidenced by our state song which was adopted in 1924.

Verse 2:

Texas, O Texas! Your freeborn single star,
Sends out its radiance to nations near and far.
Emblem of freedom! It sets our hearts aglow,
With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.

Verse 3:

Texas, dear Texas! From tyrant grip now free,
Shines forth in splendor your star of destiny!
Mother of heroes! We come your children true,
Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.

So Happy Birthday, Texas.  May you continue to be a beacon of freedom and liberty in these troubling times
